Thank you so much for showing all the different size bolts and where they go. I'm reassembling a 996 that was taken apart by my father in law who recently died. While it appears to be fairly self-explanatory, I feel much better knowing for sure which one goes where.

I just did my IMSB, Clutch & P-Plate and a few other items last month in my garage. For the dual mass flywheel, you CAN get them resurfaced once if it checks out mechanically and not excessively scored or burned. I'm near you in San Diego and took mine to Clutch Works in Oceanside. They have the proper mill to lock the plate facing to take just a few thousands off. It only cost $75 vs around $600 for new and it works great! Check em out.

Hiya. I'm Bob Rose from Northampton UK. I would like to say, I am very impressed with the way you deal with every thing on your lovely car. You say you don't know what you doing. But I can say as an engine builder from cosworth you are doing bloody well. Love the way you explain every thing you do. I've learnt stuff especially about the gearbox. I'm a porsche nut having had several. Starting with 924, 924s, 944, 911sc1982, and now a boxster and a cayenne. I do all my own work as well. But really just wanted to say what a fantastic channel you have. And how well you explain .. ps you sound British to me. Did you move over years ago. Please keep us updated on things you do to your 911. Kind regards Bob RoseNorthampton UK..

Well Howdy Bob Rose from Northampton 🙌 You are an engine builder for Cosworth?!?!!! At the OCTAGON! 😲 Waheee! 🥳 You guys are legendary! I could never afford the insurance on anything “Cosworth” when I lived in the UK 🏎 You must be a Porsche expert by now with a fleet like that 😅 I have driven through Northampton many times over the years, and stopped for the occasional Chicken Tikka Masala also! 😉 I left the UK many years ago to go walkabout, this is as far as I have got so far. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

Good job on the videos - I've subscribed. Like you, I have no prior experience working on Porsches but I completed the IMS, RMS, clutch job on my new-to-me '01 996 a few months ago. All I can add is that I replaced the triple-square bolt on the bell housing with an allen head bolt (grade 8 from Ace Hardware) to make the job easier in the future . . . also because I buggered the bolt getting it off. I'm looking forward to your next videos and waiting to see if your IMS bearing is toast.

Hello Peter, I am chomping at the bit to take a look at that bloody Ims bearing! I’m going to rip off some more stuff and lock the cams before I undo the flange of death!! Fingers crossed 🤞 Thank you for watching 🤘😎

Hey Peter, how bad was your IMS bearing?
@peterhildt1246
@peterhildt1246 3 жыл бұрын
@@ManinaGarage My IMS bearing was the double-row type and in good shape and turned smoothly. But, I still replaced it with an LN ceramic bearing just so I could sleep through the night. Before this, the '01 966 cab with 54K miles ran well so this was pre-emptive. Lock the cams carefully.

@@peterhildt1246 Thank you for sharing your experience Peter, I was thinking along those lines, that helps. I felt the IMS solution was a little overboard. Have any LN Engineering Ceramic Dual Rows ever failed??
@peterhildt1246
@peterhildt1246 3 жыл бұрын
@@ManinaGarage I don't think so but you could ask LN. If you want overboard, go for the LN Solution @ $1,800. (!)

Hello Andrew, funny you should mention that. I just got off the phone with the owner before the guy I bought it from, turns out he sunk a bunch of cash into the car to make it his daily driver. The Bilsteins and a bunch of other things were part of that service. This car is a fun mystery 🤯 Thank you for watching 🙏

And I forgot to say, the dual mass flywheel can be resurfaced, but apparently not the same way that a normal one is done so there are fewer places that can do it.
@ManinaGarage
@ManinaGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are absolutely right. In this area I found two shops willing to do it for around $80. In certain circumstances resurfacing could be a good option. For this build, even if the flywheel could be resurfaced the springs were pretty loose compared with a new one. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

So my pressure plate seems to spin around making it difficult to undo those H6 fasteners. Why is mine spinning and yours seems locked in position?
@ManinaGarage
@ManinaGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Automotorvation 🙌 in this video the only thing holding the engine from spinning is it’s compression. You could use a flywheel lock like the one I use later on. Good luck with your project 🍀 Thank you for watching 🤘😎

@@automotorvation That's great to hear 🙌 Another thing to try in those situations is an impact wrench, even the electric one I have can shock things free that I could not manage by hand or by hitting a wrench with a hammer. considering the condition i would have, despite the excellent opportunity for replacement, have reused the entire clutch and flywheel. they are practically new. one shouldn't trust mechanics, service people, forum contributors and especially random advice from the internet. after all, their advice contains absolutely no financial responsibility element, so cost is of no concern to them, despite their objections and protests that they do. the truth is that they can't.
@ManinaGarage
@ManinaGarage Жыл бұрын
It’s true that if I listened to all the advice I received I would have replaced every last bolt and sensor on this engine 🤑 Lee Jenkins at Hartech was my Yoda on this project. His advice was “it’s your build….” Now that the car is on the road I feel comfortable with the items I choose to replace. As mentioned in the video, if needed, the clutch and flywheel could have gone back in. Now that I have seen the new items it would seem the clutch was replaced more recently than the flywheel, the flywheel was borderline will regard to deflection and questionable on Surface condition. The release bearing was in the worst shape and certainly in need of replacement, add to that the fact that the slave cylinder disintegrated 😲 It seemed that a full clutch system refresh was the way to go. Thank you for watching 🤘😎
