Hi Alex, I followed your instructions on separating glass on dg unit and cleaned it really well. I used silicone to put it back together and gorilla taped the edge. But it started to fog almost immediately and now is full of water droplets again. Where did I go wrong, please help? Thanks very much. John W

Hey Alex, thanks for the great video. I have a cabin in the woods where there’s bears. They sometimes break windows to get in. Is it possible for me to remove the outer window of a dual pane window and replace it with UV polycarbonate?

I’m doing this exact same project this week. I am just waiting on the desiccant to arrive. Gonna use Loctite adhesive for glass to attach spacer. Then using GE silicon instead of the butyl bc I don’t have the power gun like you. I’m thinking i should be ok. My bay window is 21 yrs old and VERY foggy with condensation. I’ll let you know how it goes Alex. Thanks for your help!

How did it turn out?
@DG-fe4ht2 жыл бұрын
@@LBizKid04 very good. Ended up not using silicone but got the 877 butyl in a caulk tube instead. The loctite was messy and I ended up not using it with my next few windows- the glass stayed in place fine with out it. About 9 mos later and no leaks or any fog. My advice is to not skimp on those dessicant beads, put in as much as your aluminum spacers allow.

Hi Alex, I hope you can answer to my question. I have a big piece of double glazing 80x210cm and I am trying to seperate them. I cant get the knşfe between the glass and the aluminium piece. It is so tight. When I try hard I cut pieces of the aluminium but still get in between the glass and the metal. I wonder whether hot air gun heps to silicon to come off or not? Should I try it?

Hey Alex . Can you tell me the name of the tool you are using to remove the sealant? it has a blue handle on the end and some kind of very sharp blade that is making short work on that sealant. You are using it on this video. time stamp :30

Hi Alex, are you still posting? I watched one of your videos on how to make an IG unit and I have to say I am pretty impressed with my handy work especially being my first attempt. Although I did use the foam sealant for IG

Hi Alex. If I have 2 panes of tempered glass panes, and want to put them together to increase the overall thickness for a koi pond, how can I join them together? Using the same butyl you mentioned in the video? Will I run into any air gap/pocket after joining them? Thanks.

I have the same question! Did you find out an answer? I am thinking of using clear epoxy

Hey Alex, got a question for you: I bought a 2nd hand pice of glass. 24 mm apparently toughened glass. Was hoping you could comment on what you think it could be from pictures. I'm using it for a sauna build and was going to split it in two as it only needs to be min' 8mm thick. Can i email you the pics?!

Can you then use a glass cutter if you want to use part of the pane please after it’s split
@AlexRubioRQualityGlass3 жыл бұрын
Depends on what kind of glass it is. This here is tempered so not it cannot be cut.

I have a large picture window with a decorative trim inside the 2 panes of glass that has come loose and is hanging at a 45 degree Angle. I'm trying to find a way to fix it. Preferably just remove it and put the glass back together. Any suggestions?
@AlexRubioRQualityGlass3 жыл бұрын
If it’s a decorative window then yes probably just best to remove it carefully and reseal it . If it’s tempered glass it should be easier to take apart and clean it up usually it has tempered lettering in one of the corners of the glass

Why don't you remove as much of the old butyl as possible. Seems that as much fresh butyl as possible would create a better seal....this is a great video! Thanks for sharing....I'm going to try to do a couple of smallish windows...will probably try to remove the the glass from both sides and place on a fresh spacer. Will then use the two part CRL mixture that DK hardware sells by the gallon.
@superdow10003 жыл бұрын
Anybody know where to buy some aluminum spacer? I can only find it at DK hardware and it is sold by the bulk!

Can I use silicone caulking to replace butyl?
@AlexRubioRQualityGlass Жыл бұрын
You probably could but it will take longer to dry before installing it and might not last as butyl in the long run
