Thanks Javo! I just changed my serpentine belt in my 2005 Caravan using your exact directions including the jack setup (which I had). I don't know jack about cars and it took me 45 minutes including messing with my dog, busting out a pool umbrella to block the sun and watching your video 2 times. You are a great teacher brother.

That is awesome Paul! I can't tell you how much it makes my day to hear one of my videos has been able to help someone. 45 minutes is really good especially when you account for the dog, getting out the umbrella, and listening to me babble twice! Thank you very much for the compliment as well. I appreciate you stopping by and taking a moment to leave me a comment. I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner, I have been away from YT for a while.

Great video and nice detail. A couple of notes: 1) The serpentine belt tensioning tool can be loaned out from AutoZone and, probably, other parts stores. 2) I know this video covers 2001-2007 but, FWIW, my 2009 T&C uses a different belt routing than the header graphic shown at the beginning of this video. Fortunately, I took a several snapshots of my belt routing BEFORE I removed it. (There is no sticker under the hood that shows the routing.) 3) When putting the new belt on, I found it easier to start installation at the top, then getting the belt around everything except the A/C compressor. Then, using the tensioning tool, finish the belt installation around the A/C compressor. 4) Make sure the belt is all the way on the tensioner and idler wheels (and not hanging off the edge a bit). 5) Interestingly, the 2009 T&C doesn't take a 1/2" ratchet end; instead, it takes a 3/8". This resulted in me not using the shorter piece shown in this video, using only the long part of the tensioning tool. 6) Getting the belt around that tensioner is a b*tch.

Can you bypass the AC clutch with a smaller belt on this vehicle?
@javosgarage
@javosgarage Жыл бұрын
Interesting question Chawn. In theory, I suppose it could be possible because not all of these vans (a very base model for example) came equipped with A/C so I would suspect they would use a different belt. I haven't had one these vans without A/C so I can't say for sure. I would start by searching for a belt for the most basic model and see if it gives you the option of equipped with A/C or not. Hope that helps give you some ideas. I apologize for my delayed response, I was away from YT for a little bit.

@javosgarage

@Life With Duchenne - Thank you very much! I have done the brakes on these vans countless times but have not done a video. Yet. I will definitely be doing one when I get my next van though! I'll answer your jack stand question in the comment you left on my other video. That answer will be later today though as I'm on vacation and will need a little time in front of my computer, I just wanted to touch base with you this morning.

I can't figure out why all of the youtube videos for the 2001-2007 Grand Caravan serpentine belt show taking the wheel off. I have had no problem with just putting the vehicle on ramps and pulling the plastic cover off.
@javosgarage
@javosgarage Жыл бұрын
Fair point but removing the wheel just provides more access and makes room for the video camera so everyone can see what's going on.

Was it safe lifting from the front?
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 4 жыл бұрын
You should have no problems providing you set your parking brake, chock the the rear wheels and then use the front motor mount as your lifting point. I have another video (how to change the oil pan gasket) that goes into this in a bit more detail: kzbin.info/www/bejne/raPGnqSbd8yphc0 If you go to about 1:25 of that video, I show where I place my jack. Hope that helps you, thanks for stopping by!

Now all I have to do is replace the water pump and alternator. I got the alternator in yesterday still waiting for the water pump. Then I have to find a place to do it, they won't let us work on cars in the apartment complex 😞

@nmfireman
@nmfireman 4 жыл бұрын
@@javosgarage I wasn't changing the tensioner, I was changing a bad alternator. I thought since I was doing this it would be a good ideal to change the serpentine belt a well. After watching your video again, I saw that I was trying to go behind the tensioner instead of on top of it. Once I figured it out it took me about 10 minutes to replace the belt. Thanks for your follow up. Your video was extremely helpful. By changing my the alternator and belt by myself I saved at least 200 dollars in labor.
