Pulling the wiper tray out made it so much easier to do a strut tower repair and an alternator at the same time. I've been told it's not necessary, but after seeing how easily it comes out, I figured it was well worth the time. I took the whole hood off too. Was worried the wiper tray was going to be a pain but after watching this it was clearly super simple, I appreciate the video. Nearly identical process for a '99 van in case anyone was wondering.

I was to to take it off and adjust it a bit higher because my wiper blades kept hitting until one of them actually broke. THIS VIDEO IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED! THANK YOU SO MUCH. Now I hope it isn't going to get complicated. 😅😅😅

Thank you. I am replacing plugs/wires today in my 2002 T&C. Might be able to do so w/out removing wiper assembly but now I'm less stressed about it seeing the wiper assembly isn't a big deal if I have to go to that. EDIT: It is now later in the evening. I did end up pulling the wiper assembly. And I agree it made the job a whole lot easier.

@@javosgarage Me too. And I did end up removing the wiper assembly and it was easy peezy. TBH, I'm rather impressed with how many parts of my T&C appear to be engineered by someone who actually considered the person doing the repairs. @@davidbwa I have to agree. These vans are pretty easy to work on (not everything naturally) but overall pretty friendly to work on. The newer cars and trucks have zero room for working and they've tried to make it so you pretty much have to take it to the stealer to get it repaired due to all the proprietary computer items. Glad your project went well. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to come back here and leave me some feedback - much appreciated!

I just don't understand. Is my '08 4.0 SXT Caravan the only van made where the wiper arms are hidden under the hood? I've watched '08 videos and neither of theirs are hidden like mine. 9:37 I cannot just lift a cap and ratchet the nut. It seems that I would have to either lift the hood and use the world's smallest tools or just remove the hood JUST to access the nut.

This was helpful. I was trying to determine whether the pull the wiper arms and cowling to do spark plugs. I’ve worked on vehicles for many years, but one thing I try to avoid is pulling wiper arms unless 110% necessary, if they have the splines like that. I think there are a few which have a single position, which are great, but if they have those darned splines, I can never seem to get them lined up, even after trying to “mark where the wiper hits the glass”, etc.

@@javosgarage Thanks again!! It's actually a strut tower replacement kit not the strut itself. The strut tower is so rusted out at the top that the strut pushed thru. The kit is a cap to replace the top part of the strut tower. I recently replaced both struts with new ones but then this happened. It's a 2000 town & country with 250,000 so it's expected. I don't think I need to compress the springs to remove & replace the struts but I may be wrong. Mine was a bit more difficult. I had to use an impact wrench to get the 15mm nuts off the wiper arms. Then the arms wouldn't come off the posts. It's a 2005, and the arms had probably never been removed before. After all the tapping, using a puller, trying to lift and wiggle, they hadn't budged. I wound up using a hammer on the curved black covers over the posts. One came loose after about 5 good whacks. The other took a lot longer. It finally came loose, and the covers to the posts are fine. Not a dent. I'll clean those posts and the holes in the covers, and smear on some anti-sieze when I reassemble everything.

Stuart, FWIW, up until about 2 months ago, all I ever did on cars was put gas in them. I just did this today as my wiper motor died. It's ridiculously easy and takes 15 mins or less. Javo directions/instructions worked perfectly. Pull the caps, loosen the nuts, pull up carefully while tapping the nut with a hammer and you'll feel the wiper blades come loose. Remove 5 or so screws from the cowl cover, maneuver and lift it out of the way. From there, it's 4 bolts, 4 nuts, loosen 2 clamps, push drain pipes down then lift, rotate and pull. Easy as can be. FWIW, an idea struck me today while at the junkyard. If you have a pull a part type place around, go out there with the tools I listed above and do a practice run on a junker van. Take it off then put back on.

Hey Gerry. Not sure what exactly the issue is with your van but may I give you a pointer? It's very common on these vans for the filter screen in the power steering reservoir to become clogged and cause problems due to flow rate restriction. You may look into the reservoir before diving into a new power steering pump. I have only had to do a few pumps in these vans but several power steering reservoirs due to clogging of that screen. Also make sure the fluid is completely full to the top line. Never hurts to look into the smaller, less expensive items before jumping into a big project. Another cool video. I also removed my wiper motor assembly to change spark plugs. One question: at the 12:15 mark you talk about needing to reattach the firewall heat absorbing mat. The mat on my firewall is more of a fiber mesh like material that is very dirty and falling apart. Would you know if this is replaceable? If not then how did you end up reattaching yours to the firewall? Still binge watching all your Town & Country videos. I'm on to the auto trans fluid and filter replacement video and then the interior cleaning video. If you're ever looking for ideas for videos, I can think of two that would be awesome. The first would be how to diagnose and repair a sliding door that the power motor no longer works (i.e. having to manually open and close the door). The second would be how to adjust / replace the parking brake assembly when it no longer holds the van on a hill...

@jcherokee - I am not aware of any dealer or parts store selling those any longer. If you really need a replacement I would look for an 07 (last year this body style was produced) at the local salvage yard. When I get my next van I will be covering how to repair the sliding side doors as well as the rear door, both of these are common failures that can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively if you know how to do it. I am not sure if you folks out there is able to buy online "Seametal T-strip rubber sealing for cars". Must be of 27mm width. Its about USD3 for 2m lenght excluding sending fee from China. Remove the wiper arms & peel off the broken & unbroken rubber from the cowling. There will be about a 5mm gap. Do not use WD40. Wash clean the glass and cowling using kitchen soap & water. Some car washing soap has wax in it. Scrub, rinse well and leave car to dry properly - somehow water does not get into my car interior. Not sure about yours. Cut a short 6" strip from the 2m roll. Use it as a practice strip. Trim with blade & glove for this strip to get a good starting fit to the corner of glass & cowling. Peel off the red strips of the 3M that protect the adhesive. There are two parallel band of 3M sticker along this 27mm wide rubber sealing tape/strip. Use the narrower adhesive side, of 7mm width, to stick on the glass. The middle band, of the strip, is flexible rubber, without 3M, will be covering/bridge the gap between the glass & cowling. The wider band having 12mm 3M sticker to be stuck onto the cowling. Do not use WD40 to clean any remanant of 3M that stuck on glass or cowling. Remove the short practice strip and start with the full roll. Better still get someone good indyi to help. This is my contribution since I had benefitted from folks which had put up good diy contents in U tube. All done 3 days ago forbmy W211 in less than 1 hour & below USD6. Buy a 4 or 6m roll if you or your friend have same issues. Happy motoring.

I'm not a mechanic, but from what I understand, it's fine to drain the oil, clean the pan, replace the filter and gasket, button it all back up and refill. What you don't want to do is flush it. That's where the seals can get messed up.

The cowls on these vans was horribly designed. No excuse for such a simple item to have such a high failure rate.

Sorry Jason, the purpose of this video was just the replacement aspect of the job. However, I appreciate the feedback because I will be adding more videos on these vans in the near future and I will use your comment to make a better video on this subject. Thanks for stopping by and taking a moment to leave me a comment.

@@javosgarage I apologize I was stressed mine was out of timing so as I changed the wiper transmission I had to watch motor make a turn and then line up where I wanted wipers then fasten bolt from motor to transmission I never found a video demonstration this issue and figured out in head.. That might be a good one to share with world. Thank you so much and I apologize again for and shortness on my part
