Refreshing to see someone go back to the toolbox because they've got the wrong size! Thanks. This has made me decide to buy a 996

Thank you! What a wonderful walk through of typical maintenance items. I like the process of taking care of everything whilst the oil drains. Just did air filter and secondary air pump today, and cabin air last week. Please keep these great vids coming!

Thank you for posting this video, I have a 2002 911 996 C4S, I'm sure this guide will be useful for me. For completion I would have liked to seen the removing and replacing of the spark plugs. Aside from that very well made, concise and the the point. Subscribed and looking forward to more maintenance videos on the 996.

Great video. Very informative and easy to watch. Shows how easy these 911,s are you service. Where did you get the magnetic sump plug. I’m loving my 99 C4.

The issue re the servicing (or quality/lack of it) that you discovered is a real pain in the industry. As a lay person ( just an enthusiastic petrolhead with a little hands on knowledge) I rely on being told the truth by garage mechanics as to what they've done and so on together with what the car needs or may need.

Whilst doing the cabin filter I’d also check the drain holes as they do block up causing water to enter the cabin

That's funny the cabin filter is on the opposite side for RHD cars. Here in the US, my car has it on the right side of the car, where you looked initially.

Cabin filter is on the passenger side. Pretty sure the service manual just lists it in the location for LHD cars, so that might be why you had the wrong side at first.

Red-faced here. I had a cylinder 3 misfire but the previous owner had very recently had new spark plugs installed. Since I didn’t have any record of the coils being done I decided to replace all 6, and ordered 1 spark plug. Turns out it was a 4 post and the one that came out was a single post. I went ahead anyway, I was worried that I’d done something daft. Now I have confirmation. 😬 Cured the misfire, though! (cylinder 3 coil was bad).

Thanks for a great vid. Just bought first Porsche a 996 and I like to know at least the basics. Like others I would like to see more on the coils and spark plug change but very informative anyway. Would you still use 1/40 oil in sub tropical Australia

Would like to see detailed, step by step, fuel filter and coil/spark plug replacement. I have a 1999 Carrera 4 and the fuel filter is hard to access. The cabin filter is on the right side(passenger side). What do you think of using iridium spark plugs? Thanks.

Thank you for the content! Enjoyed this one, easy and very useful! Looking to change my oil on the 996 this year, did the Boxster back in Jan - thankfully both cars are very similar. Regarding the fuel filter, how often should that be changed?
@femalemechanic71812 жыл бұрын
I usually change mine every other service, on one of my other cars I do it yearly as it’s a diesel.
@jaj072 жыл бұрын
Looks like you were sent the C2 fuel filter. The C4 has a different screw-in filter and as you found out, they are not interchangeable.

Good series! Advise: whatever you do, do not follow the manufacturer oil change interval. Totally ridiculous at 15K between changes IMHO. 5K but no more than 6 K miles is what I do on my 03 C4S since I've bought it.

Difference in plugs may be down to access and someone only capable of releasing the easy access ones and leaving the previous set in the harder to reach places. That oil filter was stinking! I’d say the cars not had a thorough service in years. Looks like you are missing the coil pack heat shields too. These corrode which may be why they are missing. Or the cowboy who did the previous plug change didn’t brother refitting.

0w40 is not optimal, even porsche changed it to 5w50. i am running 10w60 in my 3.4 996
@femalemechanic71812 жыл бұрын
I have thought about putting a thicker oil in as I know someone else who has put 10w50 in theirs. What oil brand do you use?
@cptmiller212 жыл бұрын
@@femalemechanic7181 Castrol Edge Supercar 10w60 recommended by my engine overhauler. would be a nice project for the channel. if you keep the car i think at some point you have to overhaul the engine... maybe ;)
@joeoz2302 жыл бұрын
Mobil 1 0w 40 is a low SAP engine oil and not the best choice for older 911s. It simply doesn’t have the additive package that a 996’s engine needs. Can’t go past Motul Xcess gen 2 5w 40 IMHO. Liquimoly is a fine product too. It’s a lovely car. Happy motoring!
@9jfd1 Жыл бұрын
If you replace oil every 3000KM choosing 5W50 l, 10W60, 0W40 make no performance difference. I go with the 0W40 Mobil 1 when on sale at Canadian Tire, great in winters.

Dear female mechanic. When people search for "how to service a Porsche" people are interested in the " How To" the only thing you have shown from start to finish is how to replace the cabin filter! You haven't shown how to replace the air filter, you haven't shown how to replace the oil filter, you haven't shown how to replace the notoriously difficult to get to 1 and 6 spark plugs, ie the hard to reach ones , and you haven't shown how to inspect or test the ignition coil packs and you haven't shown how to remove and replace the fuel filter. Did you have to get someone else to do it all for you? The devil is in the detail.
