Wouldn't it be better to just drop the pan, clean the pan, replace the filter then re-install the pan with a new pan gasket?

My 2004 Passat with a triptronic trans was way overfilled, (a flood gate came out) when I removed the inspection plug (BTW which was a biatch to remove)! The shop, that specializes in Audis and other foreign cars, must have not followed the VW protocol. What damage can be done by overfilling?

Your fine. Overfilling will cause the clutch to slip and not shift properly. It better than have not enough fluid. The only thing is, that with the extra fluid, more pressure builds up and stresses the seals. But if you had caught it before anything bad happened then your golden

Hi my passat b5 has red fluid leaking out only when i drive it but when i stand still nothing leaks out 1.8T with auto transmission any idea of what it could be?

Its probably power steering fluid if its red.

I wish I would have read this comment earlier! My transmission was running poorly in the cold and need fluid added, but I should have bought more in case! I turned my car off and lost about what I put in. At least now I have my custom filler tool and know the process so I can do all over again asap!
