Excellent tutorial. Just what I needed to clarify my understanding before I help my nephew replace his cable discs with a set of hydraulics. Much appreciated!

Why not getting the correct spacer ? It May cost 5 or 10... I will never ride a bike with the front brake caliper fixed with random spacers like that.

Wow that last mech must have rounded those bolts and just kept it moving. I'm super observant any time my bike goes in for service.

Yes, always ask questions about what was done. They should be able to offer some education or insight. At minimum it could lead to something that was or wasn’t completed or completed well.

What does happens if the width of the pad is bigger or smaller than the width of the braking surface of the rotor? (see 11:11) Currently my pad seems to have a width smaller than the width of the breaking surface and the top of my pad seems to be at the top edge of the rotor. Can this lead to contamination of the brake system and result in a loud sqeaking noise?

It sounds like your pads are located in a safe place. No contamination will occur at all. Brakes are designed to operate in dirtiest of environments.
