Nice looking build and it probably worked but with all due respect you inserted the feeler gauge in the wrong tooth on the cam gear brother, should have went one up and you are also supposed to turn the cam gear clockwise before the loctite starts to harden not the idler, so it pinches both feeler gauges, the way you had it if you were to turn the cam gear clockwise it wouldn’t have pinched the feeler gauge

I noticed that too, that's why they edited the video. They don't mention that they moved the feeler guage up one tooth but they did.

the feeler gauge is too wide and needs cut down

Mark your socket, bolt, and end point with paint marker. Makes it easier and you don’t have to keep taking your socket off.

Great explanation sir you make it sound to easy…😅 thank you Anyone know where I can purchase those feeler, wedges and pin for this engine?

Look on the internet they have some really reasonable priced tool kits for timing , pulling gears and feeler gauge for the engine brake

Why do you not show where the dowel is on crank , we have no marks on our plate and not a single video shows where the dowel is , how do you know if on the right stroke
@yourdieselspecialists2 ай бұрын
The timing pin only fits in 1 spot on the crank shaft. Then you time the cam like in this video. The dowel on the crank does not have anything to do with timing these gears. You just put the wedges in the cam to hold that and then pin the motor in its 1 spot and that will line you up. Feel free to call us and talk about it anytime!435-743-5550

@@yourdieselspecialists so it can’t get caught on a wrongbstroke being pinned ?

I just don’t get how every video starts with the second gear up but don’t show how to make sure on the right stroke with pin locked and dowel in what location , gear moves back and forth they say , but no marks on either gear on bottom or second one up , frustrating

The damper has "INSERT PIN" scribed on it with a scribed line. Line it up with the mark on the gear housing cover (about 2 O'clock off the damper) and your pin should insert all the way. If you need to "wiggle" the crank a bit, you will feel the pin seat in and the crank will lock without a doubt. the cam has a flat that will allow the timing wedge to sit in the channel between the cylinder head wall and the cam (there's a rounded channel on the side of the head). THAT will set it in time. Don't worry about the stroke or even TDC because the PIN mark IS NOT AT TDC! The large idler gear off the spider gear is non-adjustable and has no markings....because it doesn't matter where it sits. The small adjustable idler in the video is where you set your lash. SET YOUR FEELERS WHERE THE " \ " MARKS ARE on the idler. It is placed incorrectly at the cam gear in this video, though apparently they went back and moved it. Rotate your cam gear by hand to "squeeze" the feelers, and torque everything down. done. BTW, this is assuming cam/valvetrain removal and starting from scratch. if, say, you have to replace the gear housing to block gasket, the same timing procedure applies. EXCEPT if the cam flat is not lined up when you line up the crank mark, THENNNNN you need to rotate the crank 360 deg and you can lock them both up before removing the gears and gear housing.

@@frankdaiii6403So say doing a rebuild you have to pull the pin to spin it over to take rod bolts out. The only thing that's needs timed again is the cam? Don't need to worry about the fuel pump if it wasn't removed? I'm having trouble finding any info on timing the fuel pump. Plenty of videos on timing fuel pumps when it was removed but none showing timing it and then also timing your cam. My worry is If i just went off TDC and then rotated to pin the block for the cam it would throw it out of whack again but I'm not certain if it even needs timed since it wasn't removed..
@frankdaiii6403Ай бұрын
@@derekbaisi3912 I JUST finished a complete rebuild! according to the ISX manual, you SHOULD set the engine at the "insert pin" mark and the pump should be set with the gear locked into place with a $500 locking tool (yeah, sure). I've seen many vids where you simply line up the timing mark on the pump gear with the oil hole on the pump housing (around 12 o'clock). I've also seen some techs line up the timing mark with either of the two top bolt holes (11 or 1 o'clock) on the housing. I've used both and they both have worked fine. Cummins says there will be no damage if the pump isn't timed (since it's a common rail system, that makes sense); however, they claim the pump will be super noisy if it isn't installed "in time."

@@derekbaisi3912 sorry, didn't answer your question. NO you don't need to worry about the pump timing if you don't remove it!
