Ever wondered how rescuers haul victims up a cliff face? Here I will show you mechanical advantage systems that get the job done.

Great! You know, I should probably just make a video on the various gear that I use because a lot of people ask about it, especially the pulleys. Thanks for the kind words.

You need to read up on prusic minding pulleys and how they work, as during the 1:1 you had the pulley backwards and during 5:1 you didnt have any prusic minding feature at all and thats when they pinch up during heavy loads. And since this is a "instructional" video then I unfortunatly had to give it a thumb down as that is a key feature in pulley system setups

The prusik works just fine on the "wrong side" of that particular pulley. As demonstrated and why I don't care which side of the pulley is used. Perhaps I should have explained that to avoid confusion. I did have a prusik on the 5:1 so I am not sure what you are referring to in that case. And thank you for explaining why you gave me a thumbs down. I don't receive many but when I do I am always curious why. Much better to have a discussion about it then just to press the button. I do want to be accurate in my information.

@@perryfire3006 it does not work fine under heavy load, then the prusic can get jammed in the pulley and bad things can happen. Why even reffer to it as a prusic tending pulley if you use the wrong side of the pulley to handle the prusic, because when you do you might aswell use any pulley to mind the prusic where it can snag up, wich is totally wrong, the horn of the pulley is there for a reason and you did not use it as its supposed to be used in a instructional video on how to rig it wich is totally wrong, so the thumbs down stays where it is

@@SignedSign Because it tends regardless of whether it is used on the horn side or not on this particular pulley and 8 mm cord. Now I will concede that the horn orients the Prusik better but that doesn't mean my 8mm cord is going to be sucked into the pulley on the other side. It works fine whether there is a heavy load or not with those stipulations. This particular pulley and 8 mm cord. Can you understand that distinction? I am not saying to ignore pulley size, design, or cord size and selection. So your point is noted, fair enough. But it just doesn't matter in my example shown. I've spent enough energy on this so thank you for the conversation, but it's time to move on. Splitting hairs in beneficial only so much. Cheers

@@perryfire3006 He is correct. I am noticing a pattern with you getting defensive when others provide you constructive criticism. There is no place for ego in instructional videos, let alone ones whose purpose and point is to teach on hauling human life or otherwise potentially dangerous loads. It's not the end of the world to do things wrong (you are not an expert, we understand) but when you get corrected you should be thanking, learning, and improving for next time. None of this "it works fine" attitude or "doesn't apply in this particular case" careless way of thinking. Please re-think your approach. This is not piano lessons. There are people who watch these, and use these as a means to hauling each other up and down cliffs. Of course their responsibility is to take a course, but it is also yours to take one, and at very minimum it is your responsibility to learn, thank, and improve at every instance of being corrected about how an instructional video should have been done, in the name of safety and sound instruction. Lose the defensiveness, it has no belonging, and frankly, is insulting to the community.

@@rapalalake I have already admitted that the prusik ideally should be on the other side and thanked him for his input in pointing that out. I also pointed out that why I was careless is because on that particular pulley (note not all) and an 8 mm prusik it doesn't matter other than a slight orientation issue. Both can be true. I can both be wrong and right. Allow me some discretion please. But you've read all of this already, yet you choose to stir the pot. I have no problem admitting mistakes, I have no problem course correcting, and I enjoy respectful discussions. I love to learn new techniques, new philosophies, and myth busting. Notice I didn't delete his comment, or yours. Even though you continue to insult me on this post and others. If my teaching style isn't to your liking, then by all means either create your own channel and enrich all of us with your knowledge or be respectful.
