I need help. I have a tank issue and I can't identify what the issue is to treat it. It's fresh water tank. I have some basic aquarium plants in it. They have formed little white fungus like sponges on the plant. It's not mold. It's not white tropical fungus. I've been treating the tank for 3 weeks now and all other inhabitants are healthy. The tank is at good levels and is good clean clear water. I need help knowing weather or not I should keep treating my tank or stop and just remove the plants

Back into the hobby after a bit so I am just running through old videos as a refresher, and I must say that I love that you still make sure to explain things even if you think they should be common sense. Not everyone does that and for beginners I think it is important (or experienced keepers doing something new). And I subbed. I just realized that I wasn't subbed for some reason. I thought I was, well, fixed. Thanks for always sharing your experience with us.

Michael great idea on the quarantine/hospital tank! Am I the only one who hates to think about killing the good bacteria on my sponge filter after the hospital tanks process is complete? For some reason I just want to keep that hospital tank up and running at all times is that bad? Reason I say this if I’ve used meds to kill all the parasites and such while treating the fish won’t the disease or parasite die off without a host after say 5 days? Couldn’t I just feed the tank with some food and no fish to keep the filter cycled and the tank up and running for the next batch of Guppys?

Of course you can medicate pregnant guppies. As far as when you put them back, that is up to you. Two weeks after they start to be healthy is fine. No need for a water change unless you need to for the cycle.

I put para cleanse and maracyn And as soon as that one died. If it's columnaris will that take care of it? Also, I guess I should follow the directions and do it on the 3rd day also and then do a water change? The water in the bag that they came in matched my water parameters and there's no ammonia I had the temperature be exactly The same so I'm puzzled. I'm just assuming it's some disease they had?

You don’t have to worry about a nitrogen cycle for a hospital tank, since most of the time medications don’t go well with bacteria the beneficiary bacteria in the filter usually die off. Instead use a water dechlorinator that also detoxifies ammonia and nitrite temporarily and re dose when necessary. I would recommend Seachem prime only because you can re dose it every 24 hours and it’s really easy on fish especially sick fish. Be careful and be sure to separate medication and dechlorinator doses by a couple of hours and not to dose both medications and dechlorinator at once.
