The constant criticism is what I think drives many from the hobby. I don't shop at my LFS because of how they treated me when I first started. I love that you describe in good detail what works for YOU. You stress that and let people make up their minds. I've never quarantined because I didn't have this knowledge till after I stocked. I've never had an issue (luckily) but I trust you and Cory and if I got a do over or eventually start my other tank, I will be doing the three prong approach. Thanks Michael!

My LFS sells fenbendazole powder and I mix that into Repashy for new mollies. If I don't know the source of mollies, I pretty much always think they have internal parasites general cure won't treat. I've lost too many to "wasting disease" or camallanus. (haven't had this problem with swordtails or platys, and I don't keep guppies) The flakes are great if you don't have the powder or Repashy, though. E.M. Erythromycin will also treat things like columnaris. It's a true antibiotic. Melafix is more of a neosporin type thing.
@MichaelsFishRoom7 жыл бұрын
Melafix is just tea oil. Lol

Yup. Tea tree oil. I'll put a drop in when I see a small scrape on a fish or when someone rips a tail on something. It's an okay preventative. Not so good at actually treating anything.

Hi Michael, thanks for that, very informative. You can’t get Erythromycin in the UK, or any antibiotic without a vets say so, however, I will tell you many many years ago, when I was Puffer-Girl, rather than Puffer-Lady, I worked with a vet. This vet told me that antibiotics in powder form stay stable for many years, and the use by date is for money-making and covering-ass purposes only. At that time I had some Aeromycin powder, which you can’t get now. I used it for over ten years and it was remained effective, and I was treating infected wounds on working Terriers. So think about keeping your out of date stuff a little longer maybe. That’s just my opinion, which I have, as well as a nose. Lol.

Michael's Fish Room thanks . All lake specific. Lake Malawi. Love your vids and knowledge keep them coming! Also watch Corey over at the co-op. I use his advice and have bought his prefilters. They are perfect 👌 definitely cut down canister maintenance.

I'm glad to hear it differently from different people. The same thing that is. That way I may be able to see something I didn't see the first second or third time. I followed you guys Direction about giving Guppies places to hide from each other and Fry to hide from parents. That has earned me store credits. Kudos to you guys. You and Corey I mean. PS. Please consider feeding the piss out of your tub Guppies. In order that they be well fed and too sluggish to worry about the fry. Equals More Fry, Maybe. I enjoy the content a lot. Thanks. Peez.

@@MichaelsFishRoom . I apologize. I did not edit That. It was supposed to say, please consider feeding the piss out of the tub Guppies so they won't go after the fry as much. I would so much love to see what you would pull from fifty or a hundred gallon tubs at the end of the summer. I feel the same way about unsolicited advice so I apologize for that. I just don't know how to communicate things without just directly communicating them. At least it's in subject. Peace

When you put those meds into the Quarantine tank do you have a filter running or just aeration? Does meds affected the good bacteria in the filter media?
@MichaelsFishRoom5 жыл бұрын
The filter is running and it has never effected my tanks or the cycle. If you have carbon in your filter, you will have to remove it.
@joshlahanky53495 жыл бұрын
Great video but I have a question! What is the downside to treating your display tank with the med trio every time you add fish? I only have one large tank... so should I set up a separate quarantine tank or just dose the main tank each time?
@MichaelsFishRoom5 жыл бұрын
Cost....typically your hospital or QT tank is much smaller, so you use less meds. In addition, some meds can be harmful to plants or inverts.
@jamiem53645 жыл бұрын
Also think about it like this, do u think it would be a good idea to take antibiotics when ur not sick? if u did that several times then actually needed the antibiotics when ur sick there's a good chance they wouldn't work as well. Plus they reduce u or ur fish immune system which is never good, I would personally recommend a QT tank over medicating ur tank every time.

Can you put your first ever fish bought and use your first ever original tank that you just finished cycling throughout the weeks or months after establishing it in a fishless process of cycle, or this quarantine only applies to new sets of fish and when there's already fish in your original tank? Am I still required to quarantine my first pack of fish bought in a separate aquarium, or I can put them in a finished cycled aquarium thats never been touched by any fish?
@mastahogweh56573 жыл бұрын
additional question....does the quarantine tank need to undergo nitrogen cycle too?
@MichaelsFishRoom3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what you are asking, but I always QT new fish. You can use any tank you want and it should be cycled.

Can you use those first 3 treatments on tetras? How many days do you wait after 1st treatment to put them into the main tank? If fish are dying is that because of a disease or because of medication? Thanks for the help!
@MichaelsFishRoom5 жыл бұрын
You can. 7. This is just for quarantine, if you have sick fish you will need to target meds for what is causing it. What is going on in your tank?

I don’t know how fish medication works but human medication the expiration date is just the 100% potency date like it’s going to be the strongest potency until that expiration date and then afterwards it will still work but the potency won’t be as strong
@MichaelsFishRoom2 жыл бұрын
It is exactly the same.

Mike, how long do you keep your new fish isolated? Recently I've seen a number of KZbinrs posting videos saying they wished they'd kept their new fish isolated beyond the initial treatment period because they ended up with mass die-off in a tank. In the past I always waited a week or two but I'm not sure if I've just been lucky... thanks for any thoughts!
@MichaelsFishRoom7 жыл бұрын
Most times they go into there own tank anyway so i don’t have to worry. But I usually only wait 7-10 days

Hey Michael, I will be getting female bettas in a few weeks from two different sources (some shipped internationally and some from a local breeder). I was planning on letting these girls swim in methylene blue bath in conjunction with a bit of aquarium salt. Do you think this will be good enough?

Great video as always Michael! Question for you: once I preventatively medicate my new fish in my new aquarium (totally new setup) should I run carbon in the water for a week or so, or do you typically not bother? Also, I have sponge filters, if you do suggest to run carbon for a week, how do you go about doing so, being as that I don't run any HOB filters? Thank you in advance!
@MichaelsFishRoom4 жыл бұрын
Up to you, I never use carbon, I just let the medication dicapate with water changes.
