Hi Paul, i saw every demonstration on this video showing they always put media right in the bottom of the canister filter. Didn't this will effect the water flow? i thought the manufacturer put space in between base and first basket tray for reason. If its oke to put filter media right in the bottom of the canister, is it ok to put matrix?
@MajesticAquariumsTV7 жыл бұрын
putting a low surface area media like bioballs there is ok but I prefer not to. I prefer to fill the canister with Marine Pure and put some Polyfilter at the top
@kevinbrislawn59186 жыл бұрын
It doesn't affect it..the filtering cloth media will clog first regardless of the bottom hard media for bio,.
@wardraven87552 ай бұрын
You could also put the bio rings on the bottom

Actually the bio hard media should go at the bottom due to the bio interaction. i've been doing it this way now and it works really well. i learned this from a pro who owns a pet store. My nitrate is always low to nothing

I can not believe I hadn’t read this before. Swapped things around as suggested by others and placed a layer of bio media in bottom below trays. In less than 24hrs my water is now crystal clear. I wish i had done this before purchasing another £100 filter to run along side of it (360L tank).

Very confusing as pondguru says exactly the opposite. I follow him but why has the manufacture not got it right? What does the other manufacturers say? I think putting fine filters at the bottom tray is good but it causes clogging a bit early.

with canister filters like the aqua one , aquis, nautilus, ocellaris and all them. my question and this is for everyone - with the lph on the boxes it says some like the ocellaris 1400 can do like 250 - 400 litres my tank is 200 litres and the rule of thumb is 10x or no lesser then 5x so my number should be like 2000 should I spend the extra to get the 2000 or will what`s on the box live up to what is says so I don't have to spend extra? thanks in advance if anyone takes the time to answer this or any experience and any advice on the matter is welcomed

increased turn over will not help. 4-6 times turn over is fine for filtration. I am a fan of extra flow in the aquarium to increase surface agitation. please watch more videos on this topical on this channel. if you want to increase the proformance you can get better media such as polyfilter and marine pure
@conscienciapositiva87068 жыл бұрын
increased flow rate helps the mechanical filters. But...the good bacteria needs time of absorbing/digesting the bad stuff. In the begining. ..looks fine. suddenly, high levels of amonia. check water standards levels weekly . take samples ftom the outlet. Flow too fast, is an excellent technique to increase amonia. It depends, medias, filter type etc... ..

Mechanical, biological then chemical if used. The water should be as clean as possible before it hits the biological media. Refer to pondguru if you want to know more. For proper circulation, the inlet and outlet should be next to each other. Refer to Tom Barr et al.

First of all you are filling the filter the wrong way round all your bacteria will get kloged if the rings manage to collect any in the first place and second to prime any aquone filter you have to tilt the filter from side to side as the prime button always sticks Dow n I should know as I made the mistake of owning three different models
@roastymytoasty65233 жыл бұрын
I know you wrote this a long time ago, but this really helped me. I bought an Aqua One filter, primed it and everything, and for some reason it would not work; the impeller was rattling and not making a suction, and I tried fixing it for 2 hours. Then I saw your comment and tilted it from side to side and it started pumping! I am eternally grateful.

This is the absolute worst advice on how to set up a filter. How can helpful Bactria grow on the noodles at the bottom? They will be covered in the large decaying organic matter. The chemical filtration won't work between the coarse and fine pads as it also gets clogged with fine stuff that is trapped under the fine filter pad. The correct order is from the bottom up coarse sponge, medium sponge then fine filter pad all in the bottom tray. Next tray up should be noodles or bio balls then the top tray more biological media or chemical if using. The space under the trays can also have a few handfuls of rings in it so that the biggest organic matter settles out before hitting the first coarse sponge and therefore making this filter even more effective.

if newly setup its okay to do the minimal amount of tap water-it will not mess up the bio if new or even seeded. I've noticed many on here are overzealous in attempting to discredit this video. I've been doing aquariums systems since I was 12 years of age or 1964 ..we didn't have the plethora of gadgets then...like today.
