How to Set up Spinners for Salmon Fishing

This is how I rig my spinners for fishing at the north jetty at Cape Disappointment, WA. There are many ways to do it. This has worked for me. I've caught lots of salmon with this set-up and not just at the jetty. This set-up will work anywhere spinners are effective. Good luck. Fish on!

I have the same set up for freshwater salmon. 8'6" ugly stik with a pflueger president spinning reel. I use 300 yards of sufix 832 braid in ghost with 20lb maxima leader. Awesome setup for chucking hardware and jigs!

1/2oz fishgrub spinners work awesome for this also, he has some good colors for WA fishing candy purple and raspberry are good.

can you not add a egg weight above the swivel to give the spinners more weight for casting????

I start keeping an eye on it as soon as the jetty opens for spring salmon. I'll have to check the Washington regulations for this year, but I think it starts in late June or July.

Great video! What's a good tide to throw spinners at the jetty?

There's a lot of debate about that because the tides are so weird and even violent in the mouth of the Columbia River, but like most places you can usually expect to see fish coming in with the tide. I like to fish 2 hrs before and after high tide; but I have caught fish on just about every tide phase.

There are some kings around right now, but not many. Great tides starting this coming Wednesday should bring more fish to the jetty. Kings and silvers.

Hey man, I've got 2 questions for you. First, I've been looking for Ugly Stik rods and cannot find any Ugly Stik spinning rod in the 9.5' length you said you have. I can only find 9' and 10' Ugly Stik spinning models. Can you tell us what the actual model number on it is? The two closest ones I've found (that are up to 20 lb line...straight off of Ugly Stik's web site) are models USSP902M and USESSP902MH. Second question, what kind of camera are you using? Looking to get a camera of my own for fishing. I like the video quality, but the audio is a little muffled, at least in this video (could just be the breeze out there too?)...are you using a certain GoPro and the built in mic or something external?

Hello NIck. I have to apologize. My ugly stick is in fact 9 ft. Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase. I use a gopro black. it's three years old now but still shoots good video. I haven't really learned to use the settings like I should for better videos, but that is my goal for this season.

Great, thanks. Is your 9' rod the USSP902M or the USESSP902MH? The first one is a GX2, the second one is an Elite. I believe the second one is heavier (medium heavy vs. medium).

That is a medium action rod. It says up to twenty lb test line, but it's an ugly stick! I put 30lb spider wire and 20lb mono leader. if there are really big fish around sometimes i go to 25 on the leader. rocks when trying to land a big fish are a big worry!
