I can't tell you how validating it is to hear someone say how much they hate this printer, too! It has been the bane of my existence this past year+! Color is always going wonky and my prints are ALWAYS grainy, no matter the paper, ink or settings I use. I have gone through so much ink and paper just trying to get the quality prints it should be capable of. I have never had to do a clean setting so many times on a printer.

Good Video, Ive had both Espon and Canon, but i learnt a trick, that the colour on your screen will be different to your print out due to the back light of your monitor, so before printing tone down or up your image before printing.

I refill cartridges myself for my Epson. I noticed that on expensive original ink the yellow is different, it's more rich. The other colors I cannot tell any difference at all, but pirate ink yellow seems to be a bit off. I only noticed it when I examined two prints side by side under good light. The difference is very very little and only noticeable in the yellow and orange parts.

It is always best to use the OEM Cartridges for whatever printer you are using. My dad had a saying "cheaper is ALWAYS more expensive." Better off using what is recommended by the manufacturer and paying a little more. Avoids all kinds of strange problems. Since you are not using OEM cartridges you can't blame the printer for not performing or functioning at its best. It was not designed to use NON-OEM equipment, inks, cartridges, stocks.. Also, have you updated the printer drivers to the latest? That photo printer has received great reviews?

@@danielle-chibichidesigns4433 Thanks for the feedback your unit may be an exception and might have been defective in some way. Usually, this particular printer doesn't have a lot of latitude with using other ICC profiles and paper stocks. There are no ICC profiles to use with this printer for certain paper stocks and that will be a problem with the final print. From what I've noticed online usually this type of issue with this printer is people using "non-OEM inks which will have strange formulations of the dye." An ICC (International Color Consortium) profile in the context of color photo printers refers to a standardized set of data that describes the color characteristics of a specific device, such as a printer or a monitor. This profile contains information about how the device reproduces colors, allowing software applications to accurately translate colors between different devices. In the case of color photo printers, having an ICC profile ensures that the colors in your digital images are accurately reproduced when printed. Without an ICC profile, there can be inconsistencies in color reproduction between your digital file and the printed output, leading to inaccurate colors and potentially unsatisfactory prints. 𝗧𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗜𝗖𝗖 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴. Many printer manufacturers provide ICC profiles for their printers, and you can also find ICC profiles from paper manufacturers or third-party sources. By using the appropriate ICC profile, you can ensure that your prints match the colors you see on your screen as closely as possible. So using a Canon OEM dye cartridge with a cannon paper and the proper Canon ICC profile should duplicate what is seen on the computer screen onto the physical print. Changing ink brands, not having the proper ICC profile for the paper stock being used, and opting for some strange non-OEM Canon ink will throw this process off. Many users lack this knowledge and end up blaming the printer. The Canon ip8720 simply isn't a PRO-300 which has several ICC profiles available for it to use with a wider selection of paper stocks with the majority being created with Canon dye cartridges such as in the case of the ip8720 as a baseline, and Canon pigment ink cartridges in the case of the PRO-300.

Some wonderful advice, all of which has been covered in previous videos of trial and error 😊 when I researched this printer I only saw rave reviews for it, which is what made me purchase. Since then I have people commenting and messaging me daily stating they have colour issues with their printer. Of course it is possible that we've all had a bad batch, but as this spans a few years now, I'm not so sure. Many of my card specialist stockists provide bespoke icc for their card, and this model printer, and sadly it was still waaay off. Even with genuine canon inks.

Hi Tasha, you may be able to get some from canon or the card manufacturer if it's a high end brand. If in doubt, just put it to high quality photo printing and then change the paper type to matte. You may need to over-ride the printer settings and set photo shop to deal with colour print settings.

Hi Danielle, thank you for the video! I'm looking to buy cardstock as my usual place has changed theirs and the quality is no longer up to scratch. I've just bought a new Canon printer. I've been looking at Papercutz like you recommended and I'm confused as I usually use cardstock but you use double sided matt coated paper which I thought was for printing photos. Please can you explain what is the difference? Is it that it can be used for good photos and graphics for greeting cards? How come you use this and not just cardstock? Is the quality a lot better? Of course it must be as you wouldn't use it but I just want to check before I buy. I would be buying the 220gsm as it needs to go through a die cutting machine but it's the same one as you have shown in the video just not as thick,. I have looked for the videos you have said you made about cardstock but I can't find any. Thank you.

Photo matte card prints so much better for greetings card other standard card stock. You want deep, rich, colours with a good match for accuracy. Normal card is usually much duller and the accuracy is off. Paper cutz works really well with my printer and the 300gsm is good for cards. The higher the gsm the thicker the card. I hope that helps.

Hey I just want to warn you, I have bought the Epson Ecotank 8550 and I’m going to return it! Don’t buy it. It will create rollermarks, not only on heavier paper but on 260grams already. It smudges. The colours are off on many settings. Epson doesn’t support other papers and the ICC profiles are limited. My work is detailed and I wanted sharp lines, the ecotanks are producing foggy outlines even compared to my office printers. Glossy is oke but colours are off and forget about plain paper. I actually wanted to buy this iP printer but now I see you hate it. 😢 I really don’t know what to choose because the pro 300 has cartridges that are €170,- here in the Netherlands….

@@danielle-chibichidesigns4433 I was testing matt 270 gsm paper that doesn't have an icc profile. (Not something very thick) but the main reason that I'm sending it back is those rollermarks. I saw a video of a lady who showed how she had to turn the printer around, ensemble the back, which is just such a hassle, you have to detach a compartment and THEN you can put thicker cardstock through the back rear, only one sheet. It's just crazy if you ask me. I thought that the vertical rear wouldn't have these rollermarks and I would not have to do these extra steps. But no, it smudges, it has rollermarks. My sister also has this ecotank and says that she also has rollermarks....:( she wanted to test different icc profiles though but then still....unacceptable. I had an Epson Workforce for 10 years, so I'm not hating on Epson haha, but I hope Canon will be better this time. Another option is using printed.com as they'll be more professional and thicker.
