I show you how to know you have your clicker set in the ideal spot on your recurve bow. I give you a few tricks I have learned over my years as a professional archer on how to tell if your clicker is set in the correct position or not.

I don't shoot Olympic Recurve so I don't use a clicker, but I still found this both helpful and interesting... when you shoot disciplines like trad or barebow that don't utilize a clicker you really have to pay a huge amount of attention to the transfer and expansion portions of your shot to get them as consistent as possible. Some good takeaways in here regardless of whether you shoot with a clicker or not.

I'm fighting exactly this battle - expansion/hook/clicker setting - every day lately in my 20 metre lockdown backyard Agincourt . Watched this video when it was first released - since then worked on my form, bought a proper bow, filed the video away in my head, coming back to it now to help me address some issues that I didn't understand this time last year. This is without doubt The Best Archery Coaching Resource on KZbin. Possibly the best there is on the internet. IMHO. And give my regards to Heather :-D How's she shooting lately?

It's not always windy here in the UK, we do get a few days of calm weather :-) Joking aside, my club is by the sea and it is a challenge at times, so a timely shot cycle is vital. Great video, I like the car gears analogy.

When I set my clicker I make sure that I am at full draw but not full extension while still on the arrow. Then as I expand it drops. Like you said, if you push that too far it requires reaching beyond a normal draw and limits your ability to draw smoothly through the shot.
@malcolmbarr4662

A question - how do you develop the skill to reliably have close to 2mm left for expansion once you have come to anchor and completed transfer? Are there specific drills or techniques one should be using to develop that ability. If this question is covered in your form series I must have missed it (having looked). In my personal case, the only way I can check how much I have left is to look at my clicker and watch for it to begin moving inward toward the riser as it gets to the arrow point. But that requires taking focus away from the target for a moment, which I don't want to do. Meanwhile, how long I have left to expand makes a big difference to my shots: if I have left too much to expansion, I tend to shoot my worst shots, but it takes a lot of discipline to come down off the shot if the expansion is taking too long. Also, one only has the confidence to expand slowly if you know that you dont have far to expand. Any guidance welcomed!!!!

Get well soon Jake, that should be your priority as you know already. Excellent comments and advice as always. Just wondering about the feel of the points against the clicker. Some points are almost polished smooth, and they give very little feel through the drawing hand. Those that feel lathe turned give you a very good feel and I am able to judge EXACTLY where the clicker is in relation to the very tip of the point. I would love a two stage clicker, but they are banned under FITA rules. I presume the same applies for using two clickers.
@JakeKaminskiArchery
@JakeKaminskiArchery 3 жыл бұрын
I detest feeling machining marks or dings in my points, when there is a crowd at a finals and you rely on the feel of the clicker in the riser and not the audible click, machine marks will give you false feelings of the clicker dropping.
@adamkilroe9840
@adamkilroe9840 3 жыл бұрын
@@JakeKaminskiArchery definitely with you on the dings on the points, but I'm going a bit deaf these days, so I have to rely on feel more than sound anyway, especially when it's really windy. I had to take the plastic tip off the clicker too for the same reason. Before my hearing became dodgy - and my kids take advantage of it and make fun of me, you've got that to look forward to 🤣🤣 - I once shot through my clicker because some git tinged their clicker right behind me. Lost a fletching, the arrow because it hit the wooden stand and snapped, nearly my temper, and my clicker went round like a Catherine Wheel (I shoot left handed). Almost as funny as when a bee flew up a fellow archer's rather long and flowing dress and she loosed her arrow straight at the floor before lurching round and screaming like Yoko Ono at a gig. Hope you feel better soon. My advice as a former nurse is increase your vitamin C and zinc intake which will boost your immune system. I wish you and your family all the very best.

HI Jake, have you ever used "double clicker"? Two thin plate clicker, the under one is set to your anchor position, the upper on you release position. The first one clicks when you reached your anchor, the second when you have to release.

I can't quite tell. Is your clicker part of the sight mounting block, or is your clicker mounted on the site bar? I have a Win & Win clicker that bolts right onto the riser, but I don't feel like it's very stable in it's placement. After some number of shots, I feel like the clicker is creeping.

I am just 57 seconds into the video, but already i noticed, that usually, i put my finger sling on my middle finger. So does almost everybody at my club. Is that just a different preference or something wrong amateurs do?

I've noticed it seems to almost be a regional thing as well. I feel with it on my middle finger it is further away from the grip and less likely to induce torque than it would on my index finger. This is just my opinion... all comes down to preference and or comfort.
