Suspension on dirtbikes or mt bikes, is such a tricky thing. Many riders simply dont have a feel for whats good or not. Introducing low and high speed into the mix, its easy to get lost. Returning to oem settings is the way to start over again. The OEM settings can often work really well. Ive been thru this on dirtbikes a lot, riders will send forks and shocks out for a complete redo based on something they heard, or out of lack of ability to set it up stock. Every rider is different, many different terrains are ridden, its just not a simple thing. On thing I found on my Spectral ON CF8, is I set the sag to recommended level, and rode it a lot that way, clanging the pedals off every rock constantly. It was too low to ground. Finally I added 20 PSI to shock, the sag setting was very close to what it was before. But man did it work better. Little bit firmer ride and the pedal strikes almost stopped. Huge difference and much more speed could be maintained thru rocks and etc. It had been wallowing way too much also. When the shock was at the lower psi setting, I could look down and watch it on a nearly smooth trail, and it was totally low riding well thru the travel, but the sag was at recommended setting. An extra 20 psi and thats the way it works the best, still shows same sag. Doesnt really make sense, but it works.

I found that as well. Being a heavier guy 100kg+ I found the sag didn't change much with the higher psi's but the performance sure did, in that plus/minus 20 psi or more range. I guess it is only a base setting recommended so you really have to keep tweaking as you go to find what works for you.

Great video, however, I noticed that the rear tyre has hardly any air in it. The tyre in itself will also contribute to suspension so its worth making sure that the correct air is added too

It may have been forgotten that some e-bikes are so heavy that the suspensions are a bit compressed by the weight of the ebike. For example, the original travel of the fork is 170mm, but if you take this travel when the fork is in the ebike, this travel could be 165mm due to the weight of the ebike. So, how do you have to take the sag in this case?? Do you have to consider that the real travel is 165 or do you have to subtract 5 mm of the sag that you are looking for??

I am having hell with my Fox forks. I have a 36 on my levo and a 34 on my intense primer and both one of them is harsh AF. Like I can't even deal with the extreme vibration in my hands. I've tried everything possible and can't get any of them to feel half ass smooth. Including servicing the lowers and removing excess grease. I had a Fox 38 on my decoy and it was super plush off the top in comparison. I have played with air pressures, tokens, sag, and all rebound and compression setting combinations and nothing seems to help. I can't imagine that 2/2 forks have issues. Any tips for low speed comfort? They both feel great on high speed hits.
@SamsBikes

Mate thanks for the question, it does sound pretty strange, I’ve had 36 on my levo sl and they were epic! Maybe do a full service or just send them back to fox and get them to look into them! Also I want to mention low speed compression works best 2-4 click from fully open, fully open for me isn’t as plush my go to is 3 clicks

Hey Sam. If you slow the rebound down to slow when measuring sag it might not return enough once you get off the bike, so you can't measure sag measurement properly as it's not rebounding enough to get to full stroke extension. I've experienced this before

@SP-ss4uo

@@SamsBikes fair enough you just need to make sure you lift the bike up so it fully extends so you get the right measurement. Otherwise you'll have all the amateur guys measuring smaller measurements than they actually have

@@redtobertshateshandles I have a dvo jade x. To change the spring you have to wind the rebound all the way in to slid the spring off. I was trying to get the correct spring rate so swapping springs out over a couple of springs I had and checking the sag on each. I kept getting inconsistent sag readings. I figured out I wasn't backing it off after swapping the springs over.

Damping affects suspension when suspension is moving, its not doing much if at all with a stationary shock. The bouncing up and down, is the first thing they tell you not to do when setting sag on a dirtbike shock or fork. Just sit on it, and thats the sag.

The rear travel is 62,5mm not 70mm, but in my experiance the rear of the Reign needs more sag for riding a rough terrain. 23mm is my sag, and shorter cranks.

@@SamsBikes x2 comes in fixed size shafts, and uses a spacer to achieve the stroke. If you decompress fully there will be 10mm approx of shaft. Same on the fork it’s a 170 air spring in a 180 chassis. This messed with me for ages on setup 😂

I think I made a mistake when setting my suspension up. When settting the sag you open everything wide open and after setting the sag I was adjusting the copression from open. I believe after setting the sag, you must make your compression setting from a fully closed position.

Hey man I don’t think you can set up a heavy bike like this with 85kg -100kg riders without volume spacer tuning. Stock this Bike usually has 2 in fork one on the x2. Probably needs to go to 3 and 2 or you will hitting the bump stops regularly @100kg. So many 10k bikes set up like shit out there
