I have to say the Bontrager rim strips make the installation pain free and sure. I have them on both a mtb and a road bike. The road feel on tubeless tires is super. I can't imagine going back to tubes at this point. I was going to go with rim tape but the ease and certainty of the rim strips is worth the few extra grams.

ive had 2 flats on my emonda over 7 yearsof riding, so i dont see the point of tubless for road use, in both cases swapping the tube took less than 10mins...tubeless is great for mtb though

Having a flat or worse a pinch flat on a fast descent on a front wheel is not fun. Also its not fun to have a flat when its night, cold or there is no sidewalk and you have to repair on wet grass. I would also add its not fun to have a flat during a sportive .

Got back into biking after a 25+ year hiatus. So much has changed. Clipless peddles still have clips. “Tubeless ready” still requires all the things you still need for regular wheels. And bluetooth shifters (which is cool). What’s next? Pedalless pedals but still has pedals? Cableless brakes? I know the differences, they just seem like misnomers.

@@EatMyPropwash I get it, but it still has clips. Just different type of clips compared to the old harness like type. That’s why they still say clipping in. Like I said, it’s a misnomer.

I just bought a slightly used '21 Trek FX Sport 6, it came with the stock Affinity wheels (tubeless ready) and Bont. R2 tires (not tubeless ready). I took off the tires to check for leaks in the tubes, found none. Is the thick cream color tape I saw inside of them the tape needed for tubeless or do I need to buy tape?

Setup with my Line Comp 30 with tlr strip and a Schwalbe tyre is near impossible! I'm back to tape after i destroyed a WickedWill trying to force it on.😢

My bike has TLR rims, and a normal tire with inner tube. But, can I put TLE tires on my rims? I mean no sealeant, just with an inner tube but a better tire that has this TLE specification on it.

Tubeless tires are great for mountain biking, but for my road bike, they suck...there, I said it! I flatted 3 times in a matter of 3 months on my Trek Domane Road Bike using Tubeless tires. All 3 times, they were installed by a Trek mechanic at a Trek bike store. I had the bike set up with tubeless tires because of the how well they worked on my mountain bike. This was not the case for road bikes. I ride a lot here in Southern California, and a couple of good friends that ride road bikes recommended that I ditch tubeless and get GATORSKINS. Well, about a 1000 plus miles in, and I haven't flatted once since I purchased Gatorskins. My point is, Tubeless tires aren't for everyone. Great for mountain bikes, but in my opinion, horrible for road bikes.

I bought a Trek Checkpoint with Bontrager tubeless tires. I have had one tire unseat from the rim while doing 60 km down a hill and another with a flat in the 4 months I have ridden the bike. I rarely do rides above 100km and had bike mechanics install the tires. For this second flat I am trying to change the tire myself but my bike shop does not have a valve stem tool in stock. Nor have I had any success seating the tire to the rim with a foot pump. The bike mechanic is telling me this is much easier to do with a compressor! I'm shocked at the amount of frustration and cost I am experiencing. Do not buy this tire unless you are a bike mechanic or have easy access to one. I would write more but I have to mop up puddles of sealant that has leaked all over my floors from taking the flat tire off.

It's an easy upgrade ONLY if you already have tubeless ready rims. Otherwise, it's a very costly upgrade. And don't get me started on the cost of tubeless ready road tires...

I think many of the new mid to high end Trek bikes come with tubeless ready wheels. My bike cost me 2700 and it came with alloy tubeless ready rims.

@@umu-san4414 True, but I was referring to the vast numbers of us with gear that is a few years old and isn't "tubeless ready." For us to convert, you are talking new wheels which is going to start at around $500 and go up from there (for road bikes, anyway).

Why can't you buy bicycles already set up for tubeless? Imagine if you bought cars with tires which were only "tubeless ready".

Many new models do come ready for tubeless from your dealer or are already tubeless (specifically mountain bikes)

how to set your bike up for a latex subscription...tubes have the same number of issues as tubeless but are far cheaper to maintain.

eh not really cheaper. a bottle of sealant cost the same as ONE latex tube and comes with enough for about six wheels. You can literally set up a wheel and not worry about it for a year. Punctures are usually not a problem since they'll be sealed right up. On a latex tube, you can't even patch them and will have to get a new tube. So in my experience, Latex tubes are much more expensive to maintain.

@@nokia6800 i dont use latex tubes my tubes cost six bucks, and maybe a couple cents in talc powder. i have tubes that are ten plus years old and fine. i was referring to the latex in the sealant.
