This is very helpful! I rearrange my setup all the time. I struggle mostly with rack top placement and angle. I recently moved them off center to be offset around my snare. The problem though is that the motion of my arms seems less natural. But the good thing with this setup is better placement for my ride.

I taught myself how to play the drum kit years ago and played with many rock bands then I taught myself how to play the bass guitar. I gave my grandson my kit years ago. Now he is in the Army and I got my kit back. I had completely forgot how set up the kit and this post helped me a lot. I have heard that if playing in rock bands it is good to be competent on two instruments. Thanks to this video I am relearning the drum set, set up and to play with some level of confidence. Thanks

@nickpov3y9 жыл бұрын
casey there is a trick you should try. I noticed when you were air drumming at the beginning when you were talking about snare height that the end of your stroke was actually quite a bit above where the surface of your snare was. You might want to try bringing your snare up to exactly at that point. The reasoning behind this is that the strongest possible volume of your stroke is at the point where your arm is basically at a 90 degree angle. Anything below or above that your losing power and impact.
@Psalm73v259 жыл бұрын
+nickpov3y Yes, but there's also the comfort factor. Plus, he says he mostly does rim shots anyway. Pretty powerful stuff.
@nickpov3y9 жыл бұрын
often stuff can feel uncomfortable for a while but would definitely benefit you in the long run and prevent injury. seat height and posture is a perfect example of this
@Psalm73v259 жыл бұрын
Not sure how Casey's snare positioning would cause injury.

He has a 24" ride so you probably have a 22" and this drum needs to be placed in a spot you can reach comfortably but this one is important and so is this one... I mean all of them need to be put where you can reach them but he could play the crash there or there but you can play it with a weird stoke there. He plays hard but others are violent on cymbals. Best info he gave was tighten up your beater no worries about the thrown

I just wanted to say I played drums when I was about 9 and I took drum lessons from a drummer in one of the famous 80s bands but I can't remember and I had an awesome 24 pc Pearl set and I lovedit but some family stuff happened and my dad sold it behind my back and back then when I listened to music all I really heard was the vocals. I could hear the drums and guitar n stuff but I didn't hear it hear it and so I'm 18 years old now and now any time I listen to music all I can hear IS the drums I can hear it all the cymbals everything and right now all I can do is air drum bc I don't have a set or have the money too and I live in an apartment so I really cant. so I was wandering if you have any thoughts on how I could get back into it.

the one thing that always weirds me out personally with your set up casey is how far the floor tom looks from your right left. personally I have it pretty close so my right leg slots in a small gap between the right side of my snare and the left side of my floor tom. also, where's the audio coming from? Your A customs sound really nice and darker than usual, is it just a room mic or something? If that's how they actually sound in the room I might have to check them out.
