How to Setup a Film Recipe on Your Fujifilm Camera

I shot professionally on Fuji for over 4 years and have never done this until you dropped your Portra recipe at the end of last year. Now I actually enjoy shooting in jpeg and transferring to my phone immediately when I'm out and about to share with folks.

Hi! When you set up a custom recipe like this and assign it to a custom slot, when you’re shooting in that mode mode (C1), are you manually adjusting aperture, SS, and iso from the dials or is it all fixed? Can you even adjust those things on the fly via dials while you’re in a saved custom mode? I don’t seem to understand what “mode” the camera is in when you’re shooting in a custom setting (manual, aperture priority etc).

Certainly! When you create a custom recipe and assign it to a mode like C1, you're not just saving aesthetic settings like film simulation and grain effect, you’re also saving the camera mode itself-whether that’s manual, aperture priority, etc. This means when you switch to C1, the camera will operate in the mode you saved, but you'll still have the flexibility to adjust aperture, shutter speed, and ISO with the dials as needed. It’s like saving a whole shooting profile that you can switch to instantly. But if you need to switch to a different shooting mode while in C1, you can just hit the Q (Quick Menu) button, and from there you can choose a different camera mode on the fly. This gives you incredible flexibility to adjust to changing conditions or creative choices without leaving your custom settings.Hope that helps!

Very clear, but on my Xpro 3 it's not working. I set my recipe but can't scroll to p3 to set. I can use DISP/Back button to save. When i come back to use what i save how do i select it? Silly question but i can't i press menu and that takes me to edit save, it does not open the recipe. Grateful for advice, my local Fuji shop in Thailand could not make it work too! A recipe should only work in JPEG, correct?

It sounds like you're encountering a bit of a snag, but no worries, let's try to sort it out! For your X-Pro3, after saving your custom recipe, you should be able to select it by going into the 'Q' (Quick Menu), where your saved recipes should appear as options you can scroll through and select. Make sure you’re in JPEG mode, as custom recipes won't apply if you’re shooting in RAW. If it’s still not working, it might be worth checking if there's a firmware update available that could help resolve this issue. Hope this gets you back on track!

@@WesKriesel Ok, i went to Q button and i can chose from a scroll down list, then i push the menu/ok button and that works. What is strange is i save both Jpeg and Raw, the Raw file comes out with the recipe as jpeg. I also can't get the frame guideline to work, but before it worked with no issues. i really like this camera but it can be frustrating setting up an item and it does not work.
