How To Setup A Home Karaoke System Using KZbin, Smart TV and Sound Bar
The General Idea on how this Home Karaoke System works: The Smart TV plays the video and at the same time sends the Karaoke Music Audio part to the mixer via a Digital to Analog Audio Converter. The mixer also takes the vocal input from the microphones, and then combines the Karaoke Music and the vocal and sends that combined sound to the Sound Bar. The Sound Bar then plays the Karaoke Music and your voice simultaneously with the lyrics on the Smart TV. Sounds complicated right, but it is actually very easy to understand once you finish this set-up!!!

Great video!!! You do a great job breaking things down. However, I have a couple questions. First question - since I have only one optical audio output, how can I avoid having to switch the optical cable back and forth when I just want to watch a movie with surround sound instead of karaoking? Second question and the most important - I noticed you plugged your microphones in rather than use the Soundtown wireless ones, how come? I am assuming it’s because they don’t work. My microphones I received in the box aren’t working for whatever reason. Please help me diagnose and fix the problem. Thank you.

Hello. Thanks for your question. First - to answer your first question, there are 2 ways. The easiest way is to use an Optical Splitter for a few bucks: amzn.to/3x2pke8. The other way which what I am doing, I use HDMI (ARC) for surround, and use Optical strictly for Karaoke. Second - actually, I used a wired mic because I didn;t have the wireless mics during the recording of the video. In my follow-up videos, you'd see me use the wireless mics :) kzbin.info/aero/PLAUk_CUksOJ2-cDl_zJhHa36Ttz1vOUE9. As far as how to make it work, I would say, call Sound Town customer Support. My unit worked out of the box. I'm sure the manual can help you trouble shoot as well.

Very helpful video and I was finally able hook-up karaoke at home. However, it worked for a few weeks and suddenly the soundbar started having a very scratchy loud noise. I thought the soundbar went bad but when I disconnected all the karaoke stuff (mixer and converter) and went back to my original setup, the sound bar worked perfectly. I even tried using a different mixer to see if that was the issue but that did not fix the issue. Would you know what would be causing the scratchy noise?

Another option is, if you have a powered/amplified speaker (the ones used for guitars). Just connect it to your TV via a 3.5/aux cable, and connect a microphone to one of the ports in the amplified speaker.

Hi. Sound Town 15 has HDMI IN and OUT and will work better if you us a Chromecast or Roku or any streaming device to play a video. You can also use TV to play video via the HDMI OUT (ARC) but ARC does not work well in my experience. It is very inconsistent. swm16 works well if you want to use Smart TV because it has Optical Input and you won't need any digital converter. If you have not already, you should watch this video that features swm16. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5SpfKp6gsRrmKs In terms of sound quality, I think there is not much difference really.

I have not tried it. Honestly, I don't think it will work, unless your TV has a specific HDMI OUT for sound. My experience with HDMI (ARC) has not been good.

Hi! I’m using the same set up except my smart LG TV has a optical cable and my Bose sound bar also has optical cable one only. I have two digital to analog converters between the TV and mixer and the mixer and sound bar, respectively. I’ve tried changing the PCM format as well as optical out settings on the TV. I can get neither tv or microphone sound out. In fact, testing the audio out from the mixer to the sound bar via digital analog converter there is no sound from the microphone either. Would you happen to have any ideas on why it’s not working?

Hi. You can possibly use Smule by “Mirroring” your phone to your TV. I would avoid using bluetooth because I noticed that with Bluetooth, the sound is delayed. What’ll happen is that the music and lyrics wouldn’t be synchronized then.

Hi. If you are using this exact mixer, correct there is separate light for the microphone, only for power. Is the music playing at all? If not, sounds like some connections are not done correctly. Did you change your settings to PCM format?

Hi. Thanks for the video. I'm running into problems with my soundbar not having an aux port. It only has optical and hdmi ports. I bought a 3.5mm to optical cable and does not work. My soundbar is currently a Samsung HW-Q750B.

Excellent job explaining. I need your help, if you could please. My sound bar is bose sound bar 300 and the input it has is HDMI ARC also optical in. I plugged one end if the hdmi cable to the sound bar and one end to the mixer hdmi out. But no sound is coming. Rest of the steps were are explained. Can you please help?

very nice. i have a karaoke system that plays songs from CD.....it can play CD songs, but i think the sound output is somehow weak ( i have older model of smart TV) that the sounds are quite powerful ( i think it has high wattage ). i am going to buy a new smart TV. do you think is there any smart TV can be easily ( or is ready) for karaokee?

Does plugging the optical cable into my TV solve for the issue I'm having where my Polk soundbar switches input from TV to AUX when you start to sing into the mic? Currently we don't have R&L in, just R&L out between the mixer and soundbar. Thank you 🙏

Hi, my soundbr has only optical input n hdmi, no aux input. How can i connect the mixer with soundbar? Normally if i watch movie, i just bluetooth the soundbar to my TV. Can i direct use optical cable from my soundbar connect to the mixer means that no need to connect the cable to tv (just bluetooth)? If can, how about the mixer audio in and out? Will that be relevant anymore? Appreciate for ur answer

Hi, tried these steps however there is a delay in the microphone. I have to turn off the wireless subwoofer to avoid the delay. Is there any way to fix this without turning off the wireless subwoofer? I have a tcl ts3010 with a wireless subwoofer. Tried to do a DIY karaoke setup using V8 sound card. Mic input goes to V8 and laptop music goes to V8 then transmitted to the sound bar using aux input. Your help would be very much appreciated

Will it work for any kind of mixers? My mixer has RCA cables (red, white and yellow) and it’s different from yours. Not sure though if it’s the same. Also, i cant see the optical output in my smart TV. Is it just the same with Digital Audio Out?

great video. my samsung tv has hdmi arc. i have the vizio atmos speakers and soundbar connected to it. jut got a mixer for kareoke it has hdmi arc out. so when using mixer/kareoke i have to remove arc plug from sound bar. and connect it to mixer hdmi out arc. And another plug from mixer optical out to to soundbar aux. This is fine, but when i don't use mixer, kareoke and just want to watch a netflix movie, i have to re-plug the hdmi arc back to the soudbar. can i use a splitter? any ideas? or product choice? thanks.

Hi. Apologies for the delay. Too many fans and questions already! :) I hear ya. That is a pain. The way I do this is my set-up in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5SpfKp6gsRrmKs is the following: - I use Optical Connections for connecting the TV to the Mixer then to Soundbar Optical or Aux via converter. - Then I use the HDMI ARC for connecting the TV to the Soundbar. It sounds like your Soundbar has 2 inputs (HDMI & Aux). So you could do what I've done.

Hello how about if my speaker only has RCA ports at the back not 3.5mm jack? The wire it comes with is RCA for the speaker and 3.5mm TRS jack to connect to the mixer/tv?

3.5mm and RCA carry the same signal. So as long as your device has the input/output slot, it should work.

I do not recommend wireless/bluetooth speakers because they tend to have delays. They are good for listening but not for singing karaoke

Yes, you can still do it. What you will do is run the Optical cable from TV to Mixer so the Music gets combined with the Mic/Vocals. Then return the Audio output of the Mixer back to an Audio Input of your TV.
