I got the courage to record my own music because of you Mike. Before, I was really anxious and intimidated with the technicality of recording and producing, but with your free lessons, I got the courage to start and learn a new skill. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I have home studio. I record piano and vocals. My husband who was my tech guy, died last year. So I am on my own. Your channel has been extremely helpful. Thank you.

I have a keyboard that can make sound on its own....and that is a must since I am also learning piano and am using the keyboard for my vocal workouts every day....I do play drum set, but I also have a roland octapad to control drum midi instruments, and that also makes sounds on its own. These sounds are very helpful for more electronic music.

Thank you for being a sensible advocate for music production. The pressure others on other channels put on beginners/intermediates to spend themselves into oblivion before they have earned a cent is criminal. You are a breath of fresh air Mike. and an inspiration for honest dialog. Joe

I've been using cakewalk for a few years & even though I feel that I've got a fair handle on how to use it I still refer to your "how to" video's including cakewalk 101 there's always something to learn thanks for the great content.👍

Great video, and as expected, everyone will have their own bias on what's most important or not. Ultimately we want our tools to allow us to create freely, quickly, and with pleasure. With that in mind, I would add the following: - A widescreen monitor makes all the difference in viewing your DAW project, tools, instruments side-by-side - Go large on your preferred input device, and don't get too wowed by lots of fancy controllers - I have a Nektar GXP61 which has a great keybed with aftertouch and not a lot more - it fits on my desk with a small footprint - A comfortable desk and chair - whoever created anything in a contorted position? ;-) I don't have much beyond the basics, but I do have some simple controls: a Korg Nanokontrol (sits perfectly on my keyboard), sustain, expression and footswitch pedals, and a Streamdeck - good for creating shortcuts to your favourite tools (although unfortunately limited capability in my Mixcraft DAW which is not great on shortcuts).

You're a Saint, I haven't touched studio equipment in 22 years and decided to get back into it and the learning curve is steep. Thank you for lessening the climb.

having started recording in the late 70's, I have been through TONS of gear. Tape machines to Cassette to ADAT to DAW (started with Cakewalk in the DOS days!). Since my wife and I retired we have moved into our travel trailer and I have had to pare down my studio significantly. Since I only record instrumentals (electronic, no acoustic instruments) the only mic I have with me is my Beta 58 (mostly for hosting karaoke evenings for family or campgrounds we stay at). My current (mobile) rig is an i7 laptop w/16GB RAM, interface (NI Komplete Audio 6), controller keyboard (M-Audio Axiom 61), headphones (DT770 Pro), and a few external hard drives for my Kontakt libraries/backup, etc. Your video is spot on that you don't need tons of gear to make great recordings.

Cakewalk user, progressing from years with Sonar! I did my first basic recording sessions in the '60s, then went through the multitrack studio thing, the 4-track reel-to-reel home studio thing, the 4-track cassette porta-studio thing, and eventually home recording with a DAW. I totally agree about the Sennheiser HD280 Pro (headphones)! Got a set sitting right here. I have others too, but these are my current go-to 'phones.

Hi, Mike, I'm about to get started on my home studio journey, and I'm so thankful for you! Going to do the beginner's course for my first song, and I was looking for the discount code in this video, but didn't see it in there. What is it, please?

I posted this in your FB group, but it might be better here: Regarding speakers: Can you recommend studio monitors in a bookshelf format (not the desktop ones) for under $300/pair? Do you thing the Rockville APM8B speakers are any good? (They're probably crap, right?) I'm also wondering, even though it's ridiculously overpowered, would my Behringer Eurolive B115 1000-watt 15" stage speakers actually be effective for mixing? Regarding mics: If I already have an SM58 and the only audio I'm recording is a singer, should I still get a condenser? I have to worry more about background noise and isolation with the condenser than I do with the SM58, right?

High Mike, gibt es eigentlich bei DAW`s wirklich große Klangunterschiede? Mein Bruder behaupt das...
@CreativeSauce2 жыл бұрын
Hi, good question. Actually no - there is really no difference in quality between DAWs. Audio quality is going to be determined by the quality of audio interface, and other related equipment.

NEED YOUR HELP: Always love your wonderful and most informative vids, Mike! Since recently I have a latency problem with my Studio Logic SL88 Studio midi keyboard. I run both The latest Cakewalk by Bandlab and Reaper.and Ableton Live Light. I have a fully upgraded windows 10 on an i7 10th gen Asus laptop with a ssd drive as well as a 1TB HD, and 16 GB of Ram installed. Recently I also installed latest (32bit) Asio4all. Last year that fixed the issue of latence. Perhaps you could address this issue? I would love some help. Also, I am considering your Cakewalk course, but I don't expect to see this issue addressed there. I hope you're well! Fondly, Mike

Hi Michael. Its a little unusual to have a latency issue with a specific keyboard - although general latency can affect keyboard response. What buffer size settings are you using, and which audio interface are you using?
@Miko19632 жыл бұрын
@@CreativeSauceThanks for your quick reaction. The StudiovLogic is currently my only keyboard. I will check the settings tonight

@@CreativeSauce I think the Buffer size is set to FAST. 44100 sampling rate. Latency indicates 44Khz/stereo 10 Msec
