I've been so confused to know how to use the extended storage, I didn't realise I had to delete the game off my console, to then re download it again off my hard drive!! I was having a problem which is I cannot format my external hard drive and I was looking for a solution and I saw your video, heard you saying “You gonna plug the USB in the PS5 first, and then take the other end and plug it into the hard drive” I said what’s the difference!! and then I went to see another video. However, I was going to return the hard drive to the store and replace it with a new one. I tried your method by plugging the USB first before I go and "IT WORKED"😂😂. Thank you so much. I learned a lot from this video. It seems like the usb input being blue and the usb output being blue would be enough to trigger my brain that’s to indicate they are super speed, but it didn’t click to me until you explained it. Seriously, good advice and examples, thanks for making this video. Most people fly through explanations, but you took the time to explain why I would want to do what you are explaining. Hey Jake, Heads up, the Samsung T7 when initially connected, The PS5 reports that it is incompatible, You will need to connect the T7 to a PC and format it to (exFAT) and remove the Samsung bloatware, Then follow the steps on this video. (This advice should work for many other compatible drives that are having issues connecting to the PS5)

To play ps4 games off of or to store games so you don’t have to delete and redownload, you can just transfer back and forth. Much faster and an external drive is SO MUCH cheaper than internal

Added the wd black 5tb external drive and loaded my ps4 games. I thought I could play the fully loaded games straight from the drive but my ps5 is telling me to insert the game disks. Am I missing something or what?

You always need to insert the discs to play the games. That’s been true forever. Otherwise you could by a disc and return it.

I was going round the bend trying to figure out why my PS5 would not format my WD D10 8TB HDD, it just kept saying USB file unsupported' and in the end it turned out to be something so simple it left me feeling stupid.!! I simply unplugged it from the rear USB port of the PS5 and plugged it into the other rear port (there are only two) and it reognised it immediately!! Hope this might help some other poor soul tearing their hair out like I was :) I tried just about everything else (formatting on PC, rebuilding database on PS5, and the list goe's on) but this one simple thing was all it took.

Wonderful. Really good flow of information on how to go through the process properly. I had question about anyone running into an issue that after is is set up and left alone for a lone time in rest mode that the ps5 is no longer recognizing the external hard drive. I did everything in the video EXCEPT for installing it when it was off. I am going to turn mine off and plug it it and hope for the best. Super Jake - thanks for this. So, I researched this a while back and saw a Sony article recommending to use the USB-C port in front (vs. the USB-As in front and back). So, I have mine in front using USB-C. I hate it because it's visible. Is there anyway to switch to using USB-A in the back?
