This video series, specifically the Max Nano, is the one that launched my reefing endeavor into hyper-drive with FULL confidence. Love everyone in the scene: BRS tv, Reef Bum, Tidal Gardens, etc, but Jake really made me feel inspired that truly, once understood, a saltwater reef aquarium can be very easy to build and keep. Sort of was that way, with ups and downs of course along the way but more success than not, AND to this day have achieved no water changes schedule and very basic maintenance with automated dosing and auto top off, etc! Thank you very much for the energy you gave to the industry, Jake! 👍🏼

I’ve been running this tank for 3yrs and love it. I’ve made many upgrades to keep the maintenance down. 1st add a Tunze nano ATO, I run a mixed reef so I added a MP10. I pulled the skimmer about 6-8 months ago and run the system without and do small mini 32oz WC every other day and have seen better results. I dose Brightwell Kalk+2 via a dosing pump twice a day 30ml total. I feed every other day and use Amino. In the chamber that housed the skimmer I packed with Siporax and could be used as a small fuge if you want. I also run Chemi Pure blue. Hope this helps your setup and look forward to seeing your progress. Thnx.

Love your videos and can't wait to watch the rest of this series. Gotta say though, the Red Sea line of complete setups is, IMO, a bit on the crazy side in pricing. The one in this video, on Amazon is $716 before taxes. It's a nice setup and all, but $700+ for a nano setup? Once you figure in LR, sand, salt, dosing add-ons, test kits, and live stock, not to mention an RO/DI, you're at what, $1200 or so? Big price for a 20 gallon nano.

Hi, I love this channel and this series. I have a RSM nano myself and it's a great tank. I do wonder though why you placed the skimmer the other way around? The manual states that the outflow of the skimmer should be on the lefr.

@i5usko5 жыл бұрын
As someone who has had a ton of nanos and picos I recommend avoiding them. They always crash. You have to be able to keep tangs and wrasses or your tank is just a pest time bomb. It doesnt matter how crazy your inspections and dips are. I have seen a lot of successful nanos but I feel these people are just lucky and highly experienced or they have to restock often. If you want to keep high end corals you need a bigger tank. If you want a small cheap tank just stick with fresh water.
@i5usko5 жыл бұрын
@@RD_uno I bet you also believe everyone who has algae has a nutrient problem. All beginners should start with a tank that can have wrasses and tangs unless you are just gonna keep beginner softies or nems. I have lost every 30g or less to algae, bacteria, or bugs that would easily have been controlled by the right fish and greater water volume.These were all ultra low nutrient systems, ie no fish, with fuges. All my corals were always tripled dipped with bayer and coral rx, scraped heavily, and cut back to tissue only. I still got all the bad pests. The maintenance factor alone has me swearing off nanos for good. They just end up being a headache and money pit. I also would only buy from big name sellers who you know have a clean system. Avoid ebay corals like the plague because that's what they come with. Finally, if you dont have a qt then you may as well be asking for a crash. In fact its best to have two. Most people who buy nanos do so cause its cheap and that is a terrible reason to have one. Its better to just save up and invest in the proper stuff so you can actually enjoy your tank. I dont know, maybe I have just had a lot of bad luck with small tanks. All I know is now I wont take that risk again. It's a big stable tank or nothing for me. I'm not a gambling man.
@fishfan23 жыл бұрын
@@i5usko You need at least 55 gallon for a Tang heck probably a 75. That isn't by any means cheap or for beginners lol
@i5usko3 жыл бұрын
@@fishfan2 If you just want a cheap tank, a majority softy nano is fine but if you got into the hobby to keep anything else it's better to save up and buy the right setup. To me a softy tank is a glorified refugium but that's just my opinion. It's a lot less headaches when you use the easiest most proven method and that's always best for newbies.
@fishfan23 жыл бұрын
@@i5usko I wish I could buy a 50+ gallon tank but I have no space for it
@i5usko3 жыл бұрын
@@fishfan2 I have seen many nice nanos but it is just harder to pull off. Having a qt helps a lot. A lawnmower blenny and pipefish can do ok for substitutes. Choosing corals that grow quickly is a must. There are some stoneys that grow almost as fast as softies. Keeping a smaller tank just means more work and higher risk is all. Most SPS will likely not do well.
