I already do. Frankly, I can see this tech _replacing_ the parts superstore. Also, having a depot before a sink at places where there's production of higher level parts being created is...very efficient. :)

Personally as a new player (still on first game) I use singular ones, I'm building big factories (or well..pieces of big factories that I abandon as I unlock new recipes and hope to come back to) and use massive storage at site to both cover what I need there, and I also laid out a huge area outside where I want to setup truck stops, and eventually rail lines, so I can move stuff from these bigger-but-less megafactories. However this is due more to a lack of imagination and experience, and hopefully will get to a point where I'm doing a more modular approach to the game, and I think depots will help that. I'm also not above cheating in a bunch of mercer spheres to get it done - for my first few games at least I'm gonna cheat a lot, I always tend to in these games. I find it's a good way to reduce the stress of getting used to things. I do have 100 mods though already and that needs cutting down so much..

I love my dimensional depot arrays, and my only note is that you can rededicate mercer spheres really easily by dismantling a depot and rebuilding it somewhere else, so as you upgrade your upload rate, or as you move from lower tier to higher tier belts and need less throughput on earlier items, you can easily reuse those spheres on higher tier items, something I wasn't used to thinking about from other games where dismantling had a cost involved.

I always place the Dimensional Depot on top of a 48 slot storage container and have the large container empty into the Dinemsional Depot. I always set them up right at the resource, since the Dimensional Deport is like my own personal logistics. But, in this manner they quickly fill up as I'm out building. I have little concern about holding stuff in my inventory. They are set up completely indepentantly of resources gathered for the factories. Since the Dimensional Depot can't replace truck/train/drone logistics, it doesn't hurt to keep them completely separate. Plus it's easy to set up the Dimensional depota at each resource and only have to run power lines. I have them make whatever parts that resource makes. Getting this set up rather early in the game helps make building everything easier from that point on.

Helpful video. Thanks. The most effective method I've found for high volume items is placing multiple storage containers (industrial or otherwise) in line before their receiving depots. These containers can be filling even at slow trickles, but quickly unloading into depots when you're building. And honestly, there is no need for belts faster than mk 3 entering the depots since at max they can only upload at a rate of 240 items/min.

Yeah me too. The issue for me is always the planning. I've just gotten used to the idea of logistics floors. But I think like his first 2 or 3 levels must be "dead zones" that he builds down into for storage and what not.

No dead zones - there's a floor for the train entrance, followed by the depot floor (which behind has my logistics, then above that the central storage, followed by the sinking floor above ☺️
@andytunnah7650
@andytunnah7650 13 күн бұрын
@@TotalXclipse Sorry what I meant by dead zones was - you plan out your buildings with the idea that those 2 bottom floors will be filled in later, with storage, train station etc. and basically start on the 3rd floor, working your way down as needed. I'm currently in the middle of realising how tall factories actually need to be, it's so difficult to plan them out. Plus I wanna be organised so I keep trying to keep certain things to certain floors which really makes no actual sense, and also ends up with logistic floors that are a spaghetti nightmare because of my insistence of lining everything up above.

@@TotalXclipse Got it! I copied your central storage blueprint exactly (loved that video), but I was actually talking about the whole facility. I’ve been trying to recreate it from the glimpses in your videos, but I’m still new to the game and not the best at design. I actually found and watched your video on design/decoration last night, which helped a lot. Right now I’m just experimenting while waiting for your next guided playthrough-it’s been great, and I can’t wait for the more complex builds!

I like to put my overflow Smart Splitter at the beginning of an array. This ensures that the entire array gets saturated before sinking items, rather than just the last array node. Although this method probably only yields an extra 1% of efficiency since the manifold setup usually saturates the final two nodes last. But I have slight OCD.
@annamuller4730
@annamuller4730 14 күн бұрын
build your factories in a way that you have a little bit more then you need. that extra goes to a sink. before that sink place a smart splitter that only lets overflow go to the sink. place a industrial storage container and put two depos on top. feed them with a lift directly from both storage container outputs (if you dont like the clipping of the lifts, place one depo below). if you then run in the situation where you need more. upgrade your upload speed and then just add another container with two depos. it does not matter how little extra you produce, the containers will make sure that you have enough when you need it. building a extra facility for this is a waste of resources in my opinion. a storage container > a facility.

In my last game I moved away from central storage entirely. I did have one site producing all iron/coal/concrete building materials with a copper site nearby. Everything else was connected via power towers so collecting large amounts of other materials was only 5-10 minutes anyway. Dimensional depots really changed the game. I like the idea of using more depots for high volume items. I guess I'll use spare spheres for that up to the point where it's more efficient to pay for a speed upgrade, then claim the cost by deconstructing the new surplus. Now that I'm on this track, I think some high volume items will also get 2 industrial containers as buffer before the depot.

I used your Central Storage Video. I will admit I copied it exactly but made some of my own changed to it. Like adding a second Dimensional Depot Behind the First and Split a Second overflow Line to it. So I Have a max upload speed of 240p/m Researched, making my Upload per Item 480p/m. From There I added more Depot at each factory Depending on Which Items I run through the Fastest. Learning a lot from your videos, Thank you so much for all your hard work.

I've never found it necessary to have more than one or two Depots for any single resource. Even when quickly building large structures using blueprints, I just don't burn through resources anywhere near fast enough to require more Depots. I do like to have a large Storage somewhere in the mix, so that the surplus can accumulate and be fed into the Depot faster than the items are produced. Very useful for any resources not being produced as quickly as they will be consumed.

Since the depots are dimensional I don't see any need for an "array", and simply put a Dimensional Depot right off whatever production line makes the item. I often have a Large storage container right at the combined output of a line (let's say Cement). You can put a Dimensional Depot on top of one of those, its input pointing the direction of the Storage's output, and connect them with a Lift. At first the container will send half the Cement going in to the DD, the rest to be used wherever it's needed for further production. Since I'm overproducing so my DD stays full, the container will eventually start filling up, creating a large backlog that'll immediately get put in the DD at its highest speed. It's small, works great, and works for every single item in the game. As you get more Mercer Spheres, the items you have auto-filling your DDs increases, and eventually you'll have access to everything you need out of thin air (at 240/min after you use up its backlog). This setup had me completely skip building any central storage facility. I've got those storages near production should I need to "fill up", but usually all I'll do is grab all the stacks out of DD into inventory, then wait for it to refill and repeat rather than make the trip.
@TotalXclipse

This works if you aren't doing big builds though. When you're using large blueprints you need a much faster upload speed than what's provided to keep up. That's where an array comes in use

Building and then running out of 1 resource that you need sucks. So this update gives you access to (almost) unlimited building supplies without returning to your storage bins. So get it, upgrade it, FILL IT.
@GrEEnEyE089
@GrEEnEyE089 14 күн бұрын
For now I'm not using this, because the spheres used in building it could just go to increasing upload speed which doubles each step. If you plan ahead you can just move the dimensional resources into your inventory and let them refill on your way to the building site. Also, since the consumption from building is not constant in most cases I like to pair each upload with a large storage container as a buffer. That way I don't need to produce items at the same rate as my upload speed. For big lategame builds however this should be very useful.

I have a dedicated factory just to building items. Each of the items just have their outputs going into a storage container (buffer) then a Dimensional Depot attached to them. Yes I *could* optimize this with something like this array, but I'm rarely building this fast.

Isn’t it better to use the multiple spheres required for an array to upgrade the upload speed in the MAM? That way the speed is increased for every depot, not just the few for which you have an array.

I think that in early phases it does help to start with adding more depots first. You can deconstruct them later to pay for the upgrade that replaces their function.

Wait, a Mk4 conveyor is 480 per minute... Why did they make the Mk3 270 per minute then. I mean the Mk3 confused me when I unlocked it because the Mk1 is 60pm and then the Mk2 is 120pm. It made sense for the Mk3 to be either 180 or 240 but 270... and then the Mk4 is 480.. So confused why they done this. What's the Mk5... 490pm and the Mk6 1920pm?

I disagree with not using a buffer chest with every depot. By using a buffer chest with each depot, you can use the max 240 per min with every depot if you connect with a Mk3 belt/lift. You aren't constantly using your resources, so say your concrete factory that only produces 100 pm, you can fill chests up attached to depots, and when you are exploring or working on other things, the concrete will fill the storage, so when you need it, you pull at the max rate. You can just put a smart splitter before your array to send to the sink to keep it all flowing even when full.
