For me it did. I had a central storage that was “backed up” into dimensional storage but it makes a lot more sense to just smart split items into dimensional depot at the spot they are created. Fill storage > overflow into next step of process.

I do think so I for example have not even bothered making a central storage this playthrough. The only issues i have run into is for some items that have really small stack sizes but are needed a lot (like motors for building Refineries, SAM fluctoators needed for Converters) and when im building huge platforms/buildings i need a lot of concrete and iron plates. But to solve these issues i have set up multiple depos for some of those items that are needed in large quantities and i take out items from the depo into my inventory before i start on building (so while building it is refilling). But as someone else said, you can just make whatever you want, if you think a central storage is just too cool not to have, of course, make it. It will be useful. But from my previous playthrough i just find making a central storage really annoying. The beltwork and overflow/sorting is fine, the problem is getting small amounts of those items to the central storage. (i prefer making multiple smaller bases rather than a mega base)

It feels that, in a game that is "complete" (fully explored map, majority of resources used) then Dimensional Depot is superior to a Central Storage as you have the resources to maintain it for practically unlimited resources. However, in the majority of cases before that, a Central Storage or some other sort of storage solution will be needed, and the Dimensional Depot will be an upgrade to existing Central Storage after playing a supporting role through a playthrough.

If you’re exploring in the early game, the manual uploaded is a godsend. You can dump anything useful you find (spheres, sloops, slugs, even creature remains) into the dimensional storage and then when you inevitably get murdered by a giant poison spider halfway across the map, you still have all the good stuff you picked up.

A suggestion from me: Always have a buffer storage bin before Dimensional Depo. (if the depo is on an overflow line from a smart splitter, still bin first then depo) Reason for this is, if the production (or extra) of a resource is lower rate than the dimensional upload speed you might end up having the depo wait on the new items to be uploaded, whereas having the buffer bin will allow the depo to work at full capacity, at least until the bin is emptied. Example: Upload speed 30 i/m, you are producing 20 i/m of iron plates from one constructor. If you didnt have the buffer bin, once you used all iron plates in your storage it will upload new ones at 30 i/m until the stack in the depos inventory runs out and then it will upload at only 20 i/m. If you did have the buffer bin it will continue uploading at 30 i/m (unless you are just constantly using so much that you run out of the entire bin worth of iron plates)

I think whether or not the DD completely replaces a central storage depends an awful lot on how big you build and how quickly. For a lot of KZbinrs and Streamers who have built their career with Satisfactory, the DD alone is not enough. Most players don't build that large, nor that quickly, and the DD covers us just fine. I've run into the limit of what my DD setup can support (I have a buffer box and one uploader per part) a few times but I just switch to building a different part of the factory I'm working on for a few minutes to let it catch up. Also, don't forget you can pre-emptively pull your DD supply of a part to your inventory to use it while the DD fills back up if you're expecting to exceed the capacity.

I just put a depot upload on top of every storage container in my central storage. So it always refills automatically from my storage and that way I can still use my storage for bigger amounts and the depot fills up quickly when needed. I just had to upgrade my storage with a higher ceiling, placing the depot directly on the already existing containers and feeding everything in from the buffer with conveyor lifts fitting the maximum upload speed.

started playing about a month ago. Nearly through phase 3. Now that I'm figuring out trains, my megafactories are getting torn apart and scaled down to allow for something more akin to JIT production. At a point where I have started building a train depot - trains unload materials, those get sorted to storage units attached to dimensional depots attached to a dedicated freight platform/station for pickup. Allows me to setup a manufacturer site, punch in a train schedule for the exact materials needed, time does the rest. I originally sought a central storage, but the dimensional depot removes the need for that entire setup, allowing me to focus on a far more productive implementation through useful automation! Wanted to add - have really appreciated all of your uploads and the help they provide! I am enjoying the game, but it leaves a lot of concepts poorly explained, and your visual guides to the different concepts and tricks have been absolutely essential. Thank you!

Depots first, then storage the overflow, then sink that overflow. Because of slow upload speeds, you will get items going to both depot and storage at any decent feed rate. Alternatively, industrial storage units that directly feed depots from the top output.

I would say the Dimensional Depot has removed the important of Central Storage for /some/ items. For example, I like to keep quartz crystals available on demand, but I don't necessarily ever need that many at once. Now, I can go to my remote quartz factory, upload to the depot, and send the rest to a supply line. I still have a dedicated storage facility for most other building/crafting items, which are also uploaded in case I run out far away from my central storage. For some megaprojects, I used to have concrete/iron plates/building resource lines running all over my world to have an easy way to have remote access to those materials but I stopped doing that thanks to dimensional depots. You can also pull everything out of the dimensional depot, throw it in a box, and then let more upload as you work on the project. Makes sure you're pretty much uploading at the same rate you're using the resource (most of the time).

Love the Dimensional Depot. Makes it far easier when using massive blueprints to build things. I have a staged modular mall where every "building" builds a unique product. I just have a dimensional depot in every building where I could use the resource. Essential resources like concrete I use multiple just to make sure I always have enough. I was using them in a central storage/mall until I started building my late stage modular mall. Absolute game changer.

I find the Dimension Depot works best in two ways: First, as a place to dump off collectable items as you explore, so your inventory doesn't fill up with slugs, hard drives, and creature remains. Second, as a building source for items you need frequently, but in more modest quantities. For example: modular frames, motors, computers, and quartz crystals. Building materials you need in really large quantities don't work as well, primarily because of the five stack limit. There are many large builds where I can rip through five stacks of iron plates or steel beams in a matter of minutes. This is even more of an issue on a multiplayer server where everyone is drawing on the same five stacks in the depot. I usually fill up with 15 or 20 stacks of these items at the central storage before going out to build, or set up a temporary production line nearby the building site. By the time you can replenish these items in the DD fast enough to keep up, you might be later in the game with a lot of the major building behind you.

I used a central storage warehouse throughout all phases which was a fantastic decision as it saves time in the long run for the space elevator or milestone completion (10k iron plates for tier 6 belts). I just tacked dimensional storage onto it as I expanded and got more tech. I still find myself coming back to my storage area because I simply don't want to go around hunting every single last mercer sphere. I still find central storage for items useful because on a second floor I have somewhere where I can construct tertiary items like versatile frameworks or modular frames to supplement my more complex factories. Then I have drone ports on the third floor to send these all over the map.

A warning about your sushi belt setup: you've got a higher tier belt running into a splitter where the main output is a lower tier belt. This can end up in a situation where items are getting sent to the overflow because the slower belt can't keep up with the input belt.

@DerWichtel Ай бұрын
I noticed a shift in the usage over time. With the first unlock of the dimensional depot, I used it for complex items, with small stack that are sometimes needed in small amounts. Like computers, heavy modular frames, motors etc. That saved my inventory slots for much used items. After getting all the upgrades, where dimensional stacks got bigger and upload speed more viable, I totally switched. Now all items regularly used (concrete, steel sheets, rods, wire, cable etc) are no longer in my inventory, as the dimensional depot fills up fast enough, so that I never run out. The more spare mercer spheres I find, the more other items are also added. My inventory that used to be full is only holding ammo, gear and some rare items.

Since I started a new game with 1.0 I didn't build a central storage. At the end of each production line I use a buffer container followed by a dimensional depot. When the item is needed for further production steps I use an overflow splitter in front of the buffer container. The sink is only used when I have a production line with byproducts like the oil production chain where I don't want to stop the production of i.e. fuel. If the goal is to collect as much tickets as possible it's a good way to place an overflow sink at the and of each production line.

I think the thing overlooked here is that if you use storage/industrial storage, they do not act as splitters, they act as 'overflow' only. I only really figured this out as of Tier 8. Basically if you want to ensure that your depot is always getting items, it has to be attached to a splitter after the storage, or split/overflow before the storage. Cause if you stick the depot on top, that depot will only be filled if there is more coming into the storage unit than is leaving.

If You build large projects, have multiple Large Storage Containers in series, prior to the dimensional Depot. Even of You have multiple Depots per item. Have multiple storage bins, per Depot. So, if ayou have 5x Depots for Concrete, You want 3x or 3x Depots in series prior to each Depot. Ensure You have enough supply on hand and in reserve for Your build. I've seen creators run dry during building, waiting on the supply chain to restock. Famously Bitz ran dry on Concrete building His Train Highway, during construction, He didn't have enough I M reserve, and was waiting on Upload speed *AND* Production to finish. Several other creators run completely dry. 1 or 2 bins of Concrete seems like a lot, until it's gone 1/2 way thru & You've got 1 or 2 small constructors lines plugging away. Bottom Line, ensure that Your Upload Speed, Supply on Hand, Supply Reserve, and Supply Production are Scaled to Accommodate Your Build Style, when Building the Mega Insane Stuff. If You build a moderate style.... Disregard this entire thread. You're already good.

To run down: To unlock all the upgrades to the Dimensional Depot you will need a total of 97 Mercer Spheres, including 1,040 SAM Fluctuators. There are 298 total spheres in the world, this leaves 201 Dimensional Depot's that can be made. There are approx around 35 items in Satisfactory that most people store in item malls, items used for crafting machines, belts, etc, givertake items like screws, or ammo. With that there is an average of 5 Dimensional Depot's that can be hooked up to a single item to give you a total of 1200 items per min upload. That is only if you stick with five. Some items like concrete could be in higher demand, while others, say rotors could be less so. So you can juggle how many Dimensional Depot's are hooked to a single item based on your own demand for them. Like maybe you have fuel stored for your jetpack, a single 240 ipm upload would hold that over easily as there's no way you would be using that much up in a single min of buzzing around. (even spammed think the most you could use in a min is 5). That means more can be allocated to another item in higher demand, like what you are using for belts or pipes. Personally. Instead of having a central area like an item mall to run items into the Dimensional Depot's, I've found it smoother to just include a Dimensional Depot at the factory of item production. So items that would normally be sunk or sent off on a train or drove to be dropped off at said item mall, could instead be stored on sight and in your inv right away. Keep a single storage bin before it so the depot instantly uploads items rather than waiting for them to be produced.

At the stage you can unlock it, you likely have black powder in ready supply going to the DD... but purely as a nice to have from your main coal power/ steel lines. Packaged HOR let's you dump it into an unpackaged, pull some black powder from the DD and craft smokeless without having to configure all the logistics to get to or from the oil.

Concrete is a must for me, but if you for some reason decide to use steel foundations and walls, then you need more steel and much less concrete. Still, personally I put 1 depot for each resource that is used for a building, and then scale up as I go when I'm frequently lacking one.

First time I make an item , it goes into a standard industrial storage as a buffer, on top of that I place a dimensional storage , the top out slot goes into it which means temporarily outgoing items are delayed by 50% until the dimensional storage is full, after which it's just forget about it and build using the dimensional storage. Because of this central storage is dead to me.

They have definitely drastically changed the way I play the game and approach building... and I'm not quite convinced it is for the better. So, like, it's definitely convenient to just be able to build whenever, but it also removed the expedition planning aspect from exploring that I did kind of enjoy. I find that my player inventory and vehicle inventory is basically always empty now. I just don't have a need to use my inventory so I simply never run into the issue of running out of inventory space anymore. I do believe that the tech should be in the game, but I think that it's unlocked _waaaaaaaay_ too early. Like, I honestly think this is late game level stuff that should be unlocked _after_ Power Augmentation. Or maybe even like, after the final phase of the space elevator. Like, when it unlocks, it's so early that players have barely had any time to even start exploring let alone understand the nature of packing the materials you'll think you'd need.

@@jabedoben This is just not true. Yes, you can obviously chose how to play and opt not to use mechanics, but what you're suggesting is an undermining of game's progression... which is asinine in a factory building game. Why not just unlock all space elevator parts in tier 1 while we're at it? I'm not telling people how to have fun. I think people should be allowed to play in the sandbox however they want to. All I'm suggesting is that the initial sandbox be able to properly contain the sand it is holding. If you want to take it upon yourself to modify or circumvent the sandbox, then all power to you... but make sure the initial design is working and balanced properly. Also, nothing in my original post said I didn't want to use it. My argument is that it upsets the balance of the game. Period. Regardless if you like it better or worse, you cannot argue that the balance from before the depot was added and after the depot was added are vastly different.

I have a question. Does uploading a new item from your inventory creates a new depot storage for that item? Or does it replace one of the existing depots that you've built for another item? If the former is true, you could have a depot storage for every item. You just have to upload from your inventory.
@TotalXclipse

A depot does not have give you a "storage slot" in the cloud per se. Each item in game has a slot available for it (more if you upgrade in the MAM) the depot just allows you to upload items to their allotted slot - so you could upload multiple items through a single depot
@HTETyt
@HTETyt Ай бұрын
@@TotalXclipse ooohhh i see. So there are already cloud storage slots for every item. The dimensional depot is the medium that transfers the items to that cloud storage. The sushi belt is a valid idea until an item is full in the cloud storage. That item backs up in the transfering slot in the dimensional depot and not letting in any other item from the sushi belt. Since this can happen whenever one item is full, the sushi belt idea went out the window. So the other option is to build a dimensional depot for every item with no mixing. This allows you to upload multiple items at the same time with no back up.

The first factory that uses iron plates, I'll have it make extra and add a container and depot. The first that makes rods, I'll do the same, and so on. This way, as things get more complex, so does my depot list. As far as how much extra of each part, that's user dependent. Look up common build items such as concrete foundations and try to judge how much you'll be using. I don't do mega projects, nor am I on any time constraints, so my numbers are generally pretty low.

I only carry hard drives, food, filters, ammo, etc. I once came up short creating a my Mega Nuclear plant on Copper Sheets. As of the time I’m posting this, there’s a glitch in the game that lets you duplicate items. To do this, place an item in the factory cart storage, then pack the cart into your storage. This will duplicate the item you placed in it. I used this glitch with 50 Mercer Spheres, doubling them to 100, and maxed out the dimensional storage upgrades. I then placed a dimensional storage unit at the end of each item’s storage in my central storage system. It’s a game changer for building-now I always have whatever I need, whenever I need it.

The problem with building all these depots is that you do need--as you admit--about 100 Mercer spheres, and yet I'm already halfway through Tier 9 and I don't even have 30 saved up after unlocking the first couple levels of dimensional storage. Why would I want to put work into doing this when I'm practically done with the game? Thing is, I WOULD have pursued this much earlier if Mercer spheres had been easier to find. I assumed radar towers would point out spheres, slugs, somersloop, and hard drives, but noooo. In fact, I haven't even explored 2/3 of the map, because seeking these things out with a short-range handheld is such a pain and not really worth the time. If radar towers HAD pinpointed them, my map would be completely uncovered by now. This would be my suggestion for a mod or a radar upgrade--actually pinpointing these items on the map AND giving us a local map somewhere on the screen!
