Works thanks a lot!! Make sure to use auto setup so Wi-Fi pass work is shared via phone I use one iPhone for the remote one iPhone for the setup

Thank you. This worked great for me. I bought an Apple TV 4 at a thrift store with no remote, so I couldn't use WIFI to connect the iPhone remote but when connecting by ethernet the Apple TV showed up on the iPhone Remote and I was able to setup.

guys, please use Itunes on computer, USB cabel, wireless keyboard. Reset you Apple TV using Itunes (restore), connect your wireless keyboard to Apple TV and control it with keyboard or try to connect your new remote. Good luck!

@@LebbsyI luckily had a Bluetooth keyboard because even if you use your iPhone as a remote you still have to get past the permissions screen which you can’t. Without a remote or a Bluetooth remote which luckily I had and then I could put the code in and add my device to the Apple TV as for wifi I’m still figuring that out.

iTunes is no longer needed to do this. On modern Macs, the Apple TV will show up in the Finder sidebar

2023 update: 1) plug Apple TV into a mac with a usb-c cable (macbook charging cable for example). 2) in the MacOS Finder look in the sidebar for your Apple TV (on older Macs use iTunes, not the Finder) restore it to latest TVOS (about 30 minutes) 3) plug the Apple TV into ethernet port of your router as this viideo demonstrates 4) Make sure your iPhone is on the same WiFI network as the router the Apple TV is plugged into. You must wait many minutes for the Apple TV to show up in the iPhone control center remote at the top where it says "Choose TV". Then setup you Apple TV.
