How to Sew a 1950s Collar with Vintage Method- Wanda Jacket Pattern

In this tutorial I show how to sew the collar using the original 1950s method. We will match the collar notches to the facing and neck notches. This is a great technique to add more skills to your vintage sewing knowledge toolbox.

I'm making a modern coat that's advanced and I am still learning, this video was so helpful even though the pattern I am using is slightly different! The part where you cut the seam allowance on the gorge point makes so much sense and that was why my collar was looking so wonky after I basted it first. Thank you!!!

Oh....I could have done with this video last week! 😁😁 Just made a dress from a 1947 vintage pattern and the collar application was exactly this way. Took me ages to work out what the instructions were telling me! Great video and oh so helpful when its an unusual or different technique. 🤗🤗

Thank you for this helpful tutorial! I just got your pyjama and housecoat pattern with the square "princess seam" panels on the housecoat. I am really struggling with how to join these pieces to the main coat pieces without causing bad bunching /getting extra gathers caught in the seam (specifically at the square corner join). The main coat body that is snipped to the circle aligning to the square princess seam pieces is what's causing me difficulty. Is there any chance you could make a tutorial video explaining how to join those pieces neatly?

Hello! I'm so sorry it's being fussy to put together! I'm not able to make a video right now (kind of swamped with life stuff), but I would suggest making sure that is snipped to the seam line, and if there's a curved shorter seam, you may want to snip in that edge also, to help it ease to the other seam. Fabric can affect the way these go together, too, so some really take a lot of pins and patience. Feel free to send me photos through Etsy if you need more help, and I'll do my best to help out! So basically this method is to 1. Assemble the collar itself, but don’t do top stitching 2. Attach the under/rear side of collar to the bodice, and attach the front side of collar to facing, 3. Leaving an opening between the two collar sides 4. Then sew the opening shut as needed, 5. Attach lining.
