A baby hem is a very narrow hem, good for delicate fabrics, which you sew without a rolled hem foot. Using a straight stitch baste a line 1/8 inch below your hem allowance (e.g., for a 5/8 inch hem, sew it 0.5 inch). Press fabric to the wrong side along the stitching line. Then sew a scant 1/8 inch from the bottom of the folded edge, all the way around. carefully trim the excess fabric as close to the stitching line as you can. You may want to use smaller scissors for this step. As you trim, try holding the bit you're cutting in your non-cutting hand to keep it taut. Roll the bottom edge towards the wrong side of the fabric to create a tiny fold. Press that down. Stitch down the centre of the fold, all the way around. (An edgestitch foot is handy here!) You'll see two lines of stitching on the inside and one line on the outside. And there you have it, a tiny little baby hem.

There’s no basting. Those are turning lines.

@@dianesawyerdooley4424 What's the difference? In the video, she called it a basting line
@dianesawyerdooley4424

@@alesswonderland Because it's not used for basting. It's used for turning. When you baste, you put in temporary stitches to hold something in place. This is a hem, and she hadn't even turned it yet, so there's nothing to old. That's not basting.

Merci pour cette vidéo. J'aurais préféré que l'écriture soit plus petite. Elle gêne.
