I like the idea of test pressing. You never know what will melt. I use french seams when I make pillowcases to make sure all seams are enclosed

Question what sewing projects would I use a French seam?

A French Seam is good for any project that you are using a lightweight fabric and the seams will not be covered by a lining. The most typical place you find a French seam is anything sheer, like a sheer blouse or a sheer layer of a skirt. Since the fabric is so delicate, applying more thread to the seam allowance like serging the edge makes it more bulky and weighs it down. That’s why encasing the seam allowance is more favorable and tends to be less noticeable. That’s a very good question...knowing how to execute the technique is just as important as the “why”!
