I haven’t sew a shirt collar for over 35 years and I needed to help my daughter to convert a crew neck tee to a v-neck with a pointy collar on a last minute notice. I am glad your tutorial came to the top on my search because it is exactly what I needed. So no time is wasted. Your tutorial is clear and easy to follow. I started with a collar pattern that I found online and adjusted it to suit my needs, then I followed your tutorial to sew it up. The collar came along nicely and looked perfect on the v-neck tee. Thanks so much! Great tutorial. You are a life saver!!

The slip stitch of the collar band seems redundant, since you do an edge stitch around the perimeter of the collar band. Is there a reason for the slip stitch?

Hey, really love the tutorial! I got this really nice brand golf shirt but didn’t pay attention to the tag instructions, washed it on hot water cycle, the tag was nylon and melted all over the collar. Shirt is silver polyester and I wanted to change the color to the color only on the side that gets flipped (where the nylon spotting is) to red. Would you have any advice for me in that regard? Would I be able to sew a fabric on just the inside instead of changing the whole collar and what would I need to add to retain the shape of the collar? Would greatly appreciate any feedback!
@kimbankston44869 жыл бұрын
This is a great tutorial! Thank you so much. I do have a question about trimming the four layers of the seam allowance of the collar and collar band. Why don't you grade the layers? And if you do, would you suggest the two inner layers of the collar be cut shorter than the two layers from the collar band?
@ProfessorPincushion9 жыл бұрын
Kim Bankston yes, you can definitely grade. My fabric was kind of on the thin side but it doesn't hurt to do it. I would probably make the collar shorter than the band.

wonderful tutorial! :) will try and use these steps to make a smaller collar for my doggy! do you think i can starch the material instead of using interfacing?
@ProfessorPincushion10 жыл бұрын
xianated Are you planning on washing it? because starch will come out in water and then you'll have a flimsy collar again. I would use interfacing and then you don't have to worry about it.

hello..nice n clear tut.. Is the treatment of collar band the same with bias band?...since there are patterns that just have a collar pattern n ask us to make a bias band
@ProfessorPincushion8 жыл бұрын
when they say bias band, I just imagine they mean that the band is cut on the bias of the fabric, usually to give the band a bit of a stretch. If it looks the same as my band, then I would say, you're going to sew it on in a similar method.
