You can use any pattern that calls for a sweetheart bodice. Just apply the same techniques. I personally am using Simplicity S8979.

Do you suggest an underwire to be sewn in, Im making a prom dress and am a 32C. Because it is strapless I dont want to wear a bra with strap, so should I just build them in or wear it separately? Whichever has better support.

How would one make and sew bra cups into this?
@ProfessorPincushion5 жыл бұрын
hmmm...if it were me, I would hand sew the cups to the inside of the lining prior to sewing the lining and main fabric together. You might want to do cups first and then boning and only put the boning in below the cups. Try it with a muslin and see if this provides enough support.

@ringtail145 жыл бұрын
Why do you need the lining? Just curious if it's absolutely a must.
@ProfessorPincushion5 жыл бұрын
It finishes the top of the bodice and makes it look nicer so you don't see the seam allowances and boning casing. Also, if it has interfacing it provides extra stabilization. I guess you can use bias tape to finish the top as well but it's not standard to do it this way.

Would this work with a stretchy velvet? I’d figure that it would be fine as long at i had a lining and used interfacing but im not an experienced seamstress
@ProfessorPincushion6 жыл бұрын
I would say so, but you do have to be careful when sewing so it's not stretching at all, otherwise you might get a misshapen neckline. If it were me, I'd sew utilize hand basting seams first and then sewing at the machine with a walking foot.

I don't get it. The side front looks curved while the front piece looks straight. How to you match it to sew those pieces properly and straight? Do we cut the side piece to match the front piece or what???
@ProfessorPincushion Жыл бұрын
Yes, you're fitting the straighter edge with a curved edge. Sometimes you just have to try it and you'll see that it works. This is how the shaping occurs. You can do it :D

Do you have to use the boning ?
@ProfessorPincushion5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm...Maybe if the fabric was really structured you wouldn't need to but I imagine most fabrics don't have this. Boning helps not only to keep it in place but keep the form from gaping

How to close the bottom of the bodice if not attached to a skirt ?
@ProfessorPincushion6 жыл бұрын
when you sew on the lining, you would sew all the way around even at the bottom but on one side, you would have to leave a gap, so no stitches, so you can still flip it right side out and then slip stitch the opening closed.
