@@dawonfields7360 Yes. You can make them by hand. It might take you longer and your fingers might be sore but It can be done. Just be careful with your stitches. Make sure they’re not too big or too lose. Some people can hand sew faster than I can machine sew them. It would say most anything can be sewn by hand. Happy Sewing!

Cat tents, teddy bears, dog hoodies, etc. Then I was directed ro make a tambourine purse.o love how it turned out, but unfortunately my favorite wallet is too big and heavy for it. So why not sew my own wallet? As i was looking for wallet videos I stumbled on your video. Omg i made the cutest coin purse to match my new purse. Hey Robin! Great video. While I was watching I had an idea. How about putting a small piece of velcro on the back outside of the pouch, then putting a small piece of velcro on the INSIDE of a purse. I was thinking it could be kind of a removable pocket. So, if you only wanted to take the pouch with you, you could do that, or if you wanted to put important things in it like ID or a gift card, you could stick it on the inside of your purse attached to the velcro so it won't fall out. Like I said, kind of like a removable pocket. IDK, maybe it would work, maybe not. I'm going to try it.

Already looking into small homemade gifts for Christmas and I think this is perfect thank you! Do you think a plastic or metal zipper is better?
@rsislandcrafts3 жыл бұрын
These are great for gifts especially if you need to make multiples. I personally prefer the nylon zipper. That way I can use a longer zipper and sew over the zipper. If you choose to use a metal zipper then you have to make your pouch the exact size as the zipper basically. No cutting or sewing over a metal zipper. If you like the look of a metal zipper they have nylon ones that look like metal. Best of both worlds.

So I could use 5 x 6 inch fabric pieces with my 7 inch zipper? I have several 7 inch zippers in my stash.
@rsislandcrafts11 ай бұрын
Yes, that should work fine. I have random zippers in my stash. Sometimes I start with the zipper then choose the fabric just so I can clear out some of those random zippers. I cut my fabric so that It fits between the metal stoppers on the chosen zipper. Then I choose how deep I want the pouch to be. That way I know I won’t be sewing over the metal stoppers by accident.

/Why do you use interfacing for this project? what is the advantage?
@rsislandcrafts8 ай бұрын
Like many things it’s personal preference or based on the usage of the item. I currently use fusible fleece for my simple coin pouches. Some people prefer a heavier weight interfacing, or batting, and others use nothing at all. The interfacing I used in this video gave my coin pouches a bit of strength and durability while still allowing the pouch to be soft and able to squish into a pocket or back pack. I switched to fusible fleece for my smaller zipper pouches because I like the ease of It being fusible, versus some battings, and the pouch still maintains the slight squish factor that I like when I use batting. Fusible fleece can be used as is or I can quilt It as if It were standard cotton batting.

Great video and instructions. I tried making three of these yesterday…😁 Do you have any tips to keep the zip straight please? I’ve tried tacking the zip and folding it into lining, but keeps slipping at either side, and looking bulky at the edges. Thanks so much !
@rsislandcrafts5 ай бұрын
Thank you. I’ve shown what I do with my zipper but it’s been in random videos. Not sure if I put It in this video. Maybe this will make sense. After the pouch is turned right sides out I put my thumb on the zipper and my first finger inside. With pressure from both sides I slowly push the zipper corners up and out. I don’t push too hard because then you can pop the seam or get a weird spot. I can usually get It to look pretty nice. Of course there’s a slant to those corners but it’s subtle not a big dent. I also back stitch over the zipper area to keep everything secure. I’ve tried tacking the zipper ends down and It didn’t do much for me. I prefer not to use zipper tabs because they can be fiddly and they make the opening smaller. I hope that helps. I also I have a playlist full of zipper pouch videos.

Those few minutes here and there add up quickly. When you’re able to keep a little sewing station set up It becomes easier to sit and sew for five minutes here and there. No setting up the machine or putting It away. It’s a great tip for people trying to figure out how to get more sewing done in a day. Thanks for sharing.

@rsislandcrafts5 ай бұрын
@@mld1x598 I’ve just reread your question and just in case I didn’t fully answer It correctly here’s another tip. If the zipper isn’t staying lined up along the top of the fabric you can of course use more pins and clips. Or some people like to use a line to glue to hold the zipper in place. Or a thin fusible seam tape. If you only meant the corners then you can ignore this tip 🤣

It’s easier to sew if the zipper is longer than the pouch. Otherwise the zipper pull gets in the way while sewing.
