This is a very nice bag thank you for showing me. But the zippers do not turn out without a zipper tab for me. Maybe you can help me thank you so much.
@rsislandcrafts2 жыл бұрын
@@fransmith2158 I’ve never been a fan of the zipper tabs. Especially for a coin pouch. They make the opening so much smaller. It took me lots of practice to get my zippers to look nice. I’m not sure if I do anything special. When I trim my zipper ends, before turning the bag right side out, I make sure they’re even with the seam allowance or about a 1/4” longer. Before I sew the lining closed I put a finger inside the bag and make sure I “pop” the end of the zipper up. I find that stops the dip in the corners. I double or triple sew over the zipper ends when sewing the pouch together. That ensures that I’m not going to pop the end of the zipper out when I’m pushing up the corners. I hope that helps.

Many bag makers like SF 101 but It is a higher priced interfacing. Since this video I have switched to Pellon fusible fleece. It’s still thin enough to work with and helps the coin pouch to hold its shape. I have several other zipper pouch videos and many use the fusible fleece if you’d like to see It being used. How do you determine how much you charge for your different size pouches?
@rsislandcrafts2 жыл бұрын
Pricing is one of the hardest things about selling what you make. I start with 3x the cost of materials. Then I adjust based on techniques used. Did I do a lot of quilting? Did I add any embellishments? Simple pouches are quick to make but if I change things up and It takes longer to make a pouch then I adjust the price. You can also check Etsy to see how your prices compare to what others are charging. There are always ones that are priced way high. There will also be some that are priced so low you wonder if they’re even covering the cost of the fabric. Are your prices about in the middle? Some people price too low because they are sewing with scraps/leftover fabric or the fabric was given to them for free or bought on sale. I go with the full price of fabric if I were to replace It today. If you price low now because of free fabric what happens in 3 months when you have to buy more fabric and your prices are too low? You won’t cover your expenses. I hope that helps and doesn’t make It more confusing. Good luck!

I am going to try to make there coin purses for Christmas gifts or a little larger I bought 9 inch zippers what size should I cut my fabric I really enjoyed your video and since we are home during the pedemic I keep busy sewing to pass time Thanks again
@rsislandcrafts4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I prefer my zippers to be about 2” longer than my pouch. That way I don’t have to struggle. A simple pouch like these aren’t difficult with a zipper the exact size but I like to avoid the stoppers at the ends. As long as you use a nylon zipper you can easily trim to size. Think about what that person may use the pouch for. If you make them 7” long you can make them deeper if they want a cosmetic bag or not so deep for pens and pencils. My favorite size to cut my fabric is 7.5” wide by 6” deep. I hope that helps.

@rsislandcrafts2 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to know what you’re doing without seeing It. When i add pins or clips before I sew around, I push the zipper towards the lining side if It isn’t already going that way. Can It be that simple for you? I know for me the simplest part is what tends to mess me up. I think I try to make everything harder than It really is.

Looks great, what is your stitch length?
@rsislandcrafts3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. During this video I believe I used a 3.0 stitch length maybe but I’ve since dropped down to a 2.0 stitch length. I prefer the tighter stitches for strength and durability. Many videos will recommend between a 2.0 and a 3.0. I think It also depends on your preference and sewing machine.

Hello! We followed each step but when my daughter went the do pull through she pulled through but when zipped closed the zipper fell off. Can you help please?
@rsislandcrafts6 ай бұрын
The zipper pull fell off? Could you please email a picture of It inside out and turned right side around? My email is Showandtellwithrobin at gmail dot com. If the zipper pull can come completely off then that means the side seam wasn’t sewn completely. Or that the zipper pull was on the outside of the seam when the sides were sewn. A picture would make It easier for me to see what might have happened.

What size did you make your bags

A little past the minute mark in the video I give the dimensions. I started by cutting my fabric 6.5” x 4.5” but you can make any size pouch that you want or need.

Hi ya Robin, I'm wondering is you did a tute on actually making these. They are cute! I'm just relearning to SW after a brain injury and I need those visuals to make the connection in the ol factory on top lolololol Hold that thought. Watching all the video before putting foot in mouth UGH! LOL Sooo 🤨O HAVE REALLY BIG FEET! 🤪🤪 THIS VIDEO IS PERFECT ROBIN! THANK YOU❣ Because I've been sewing I knew exactly what you ment at each step. And it reaffirmed me on what I knew to do and and reassured me what I thought to do..😁 Plus, you streamlined a couple details my teacher had missed and helped cut out a couple different steps.. WAHOOZA, PARTY TIME🎈🎉🎈🎉🎈 THANK YOU & I'LL BE BACK ..I need to watch and do so many times just to get something to make the connection(rebuild the muscle memory) so, THANK YOU AGAIN FOR BEING HERE X'S 😊

Phew! I was worried for a minute because I thought I went through each step in this video even though I didn’t show the actual sewing. I’m glad my thorough step by step process worked. So many of us need to see each step and see It over and over for It to sink in. I know I rewatch videos a couple times and then have it running as I’m sewing the project. I even rewatch my videos 😂. I know I tend to get chatty and give a ton of details but you really never know who needs that little tip. I’m not sure if congratulations is the right word but good for you for coming back to sewing after your brain injury. I can only imagine how much work you’re doing to get back to the things you love. If you ever need a specific video please let me know. I’m always looking for new ideas and I love to help others figure things out. Thanks!!!

@@rsislandcrafts aww Thats Wonderful Thank you I'll definitely keep that in mind.. I'm sure I'll have a video idea sooner or later lol. Yes, it's been rough but the minute we give up.. it's , well, might as well be over! frustration, surprisingly very lil anger (that was only at the beginning. easy to be a lil miffed when you can't figure out why once again your body is not in alignment with your hopes & dreams} & more than anything prayer gets me through. Plus wonderful folks like you willing to help. again THANK YOU & LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF YOUR POSTS X's
