Fabulous tips! I particularly appreciate the joining tip. As a quilter, I would likely experiment by using Acorn Precision glue to tack the matching pattern before sewing to see if that effectively works. Thank you, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦

I actually went out and bought a welt/piping foot for my Jenome …. So glad I did, the finish is so much better than using the zipper foot. Thank you again …. Love it

Thank you, thank you ….. have just made my first ever piping/welting ….. oh so in love with how easy it is, and on the bias too. I am 74 years young, and am making my second ever quilt for my son, he asked if I could make pillow cases to match…..love the look of piping/welting, just finishes it all off ….. now to go and finish making the pillows and add the piping ….. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Great videos, I've learned so much from you. Thanks. What is that humming noise? Do you have your foot on the sewing machine pedal? You could burn out the motor earlier than necessary.

My motor is very loud, so when I edit the video I use the “reduce background noise” feature but that’s as good as I can get it 🤷‍♀️

@@ASquarePillowIsntSquare how to sew it closed! It seems the welting adds a little complexity to the plain pillow machine sewn closure. Or am I creating a problem where there isn't one? 🤷‍♀️ I am a clothing sewest but wamt (need) to do some home decor new home. Thanks again!

Your fabric is actually the PERFECT pattern to go with a straight cut rather than a bias cut for the welt because you CAN match that simple stripe (as opposed to trying to exactly match a crazier pattern) AND with the new trick you just shared about sliding the pattern a bit ahead of the sewing so it will match front and back I think you could give up a bit of the stretch to match that stripe too!! I apologize for my looong sentence, but you'll know what I meant. Since there are only four places to match the welt stripe to the front and back of the pillow, I think it's doable, especially since you'd only have to match the pattern twice on only two sides because of the lack of those stipes on the remaining two sides, right? I learned that sometimes it's worth it to go all-in when you've got the perfect opportunity with fabric as you've chosen here. I'd LOVE to see the difference between this pillow next to another just like it but with matching stripes right through the piping as well. Thanks for that GREAT tip about shifting the pattern a bit. If only I'd watched your video sooner -- I could have avoided a lot of headaches trying to line up MY patterns better!!! LOL
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare 2 жыл бұрын
So glad you liked the video! Yes, you can absolutely match the stripes but since it would only be on 2 of the 4 sides and much more time consuming to match them top and bottom without a lot of planning and piecing the welt I usually opt to do a continuous bias cut contrast. Now on boxing strips and cushions, where once you match the front the other sides and back don’t matter it works better :)

I use an old industrial machine, a Mitsubishi LS2-2210, but the welt feet for these machines are pretty universal. These feet worked on my industrial Juki as well. I’ve had to resort to using a zipper foot at times, so that’s always an option.

It's really personal preference, but I make so many pillows that I don't have room to inventory all the filler I need. The time, space, and money required to make and fill the inserts just isn't worth it to me. And since I like down/feather the best, it's not practical to try and make my own inserts. I'd have feathers all over the place! I keep one large bag of cluster fill on hand for odd shaped pillows that I can't buy inserts for.

Sometimes you can by a set of them. I have several welt feet but the ones I use the most are 1/4” and 3/8”. Less often 1/8” and 1/2”

😢Fantastic video except for the distracting, annoying noise! I read your explanation but there are hundreds of videos on machines that have a “loud motor” but this is a first that somehow couldn’t film around it. I cut the sound off but I need to hear your instructions so unfortunately I need to move on to a different channel. Sorry about my ocd but there’s no way I’m the only one who skips your videos for that reason. I’ll continue to check back and hopefully you’ve figured it out. Many thanks.
