Can you please tell me how your layer labeling works please I usually label mine as Base->Shade Reference->Shade (Clipping layer)->Outline and the names are usually to big for my app's layer system.

Question, and yes I’m a year late…but how do you know what color to add shadows with? With different skin colors?..
@Andreiaaaaaaa2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm not her but you can search for LavenderTowne, I think she made a video about it!
@kmdraws642 жыл бұрын
My best tip is to avoid just simply darkening the color! Skin has a lot of colors, shift around hue for shadows and lights! (For shadows I tend to lead darker and more towards red)
@Andreiaaaaaaa2 жыл бұрын
@@kmdraws64 Yeah, I also do that, the drawings get really lively :3
@Mani00poyata2 жыл бұрын
It depends upon what kind of mood you are going for. If you already drew a character with a lot if warm tones , u will need to do shadows in more of a blue or purple hue, to balance the whole illustration. It's the vice versa if you created a character with cold tones.
@Mani00poyata2 жыл бұрын
You can also balance the tones, by playing around till you feel it's good enough.

you can actually clip to folders if you set the folder blend mode to “normal” :-)

would subsurface scattering depend on blood color? say you had a character with blue blood, organs, etc. would their subsurface scattering be blue?
@miunce2 жыл бұрын
@Insomnia_Gaming rad thanks
@flareon13682 жыл бұрын
I'd assume it would depend on both the blood/organs of the character in addition to skin tone as well. A blue skin character could look more Harmonious with blue SSS (especially if they have blue blood) but at the same time, I've seen illustrations of characters with blue or gray skin tones who had red/pink SSS that looked both life like and dead at the same time so it may depend on the mood of the piece. That said, blue blood will definitely affect SSS. What I do know for sure is that Tarantulas actually (and other insects/arachnids, but I've got tarantulas and they are large enough to actually see things like this occurring so I'm most familiar in terms of tarantulas) have naturally occurring blue blood. After they molt their exoskeleton, they become near translucent and look a pale blueish/greenish with a very cool ghostly type of effect. If you're not too afraid of spiders to look this up, studying how light casts through freshly molted tarantulas gives a very interesting perspective on how this occurs in nature and how it might affect SSS in a humanoid creature with blue blood

I'm a year late but i believe it's not caused by blood at all! Among all the colors, red has the longest light waves, and is the only one long enough to be seen through skin

I love your tutorials 🥰 Can you please break this topic down even further by making separate tutorials for: *1)* *Specular Highlights* (How would you color *glossy surfaces?* What color should the specular highlights be in different lighting scenarios? How should we *color-pick* the color for specular highlights? Specular Highlights need to be bright, but I doubt they should be white. So, how should we determine the best color for them?) *2)* How should we paint *Bounce Light?* *3)* How should we paint *Subsurface Scattering?* I feel that these topics deserve their own videos.

I am horrible at adding shadows and general dimension to anything. I’m working on it though. I grew up focusing entirely on anatomy and making sure you could tell what a person is feeling in my drawings. So I’m realllyyy good at drawing characters but I suck at backgrounds, shading, and I’m only now getting good at color.

Hello ! As a beginner, I find your tutorials really helpful, I couldn't thank you enough ♥ I have a question, if any good souls here are willing to lose some time for me... my character is a blue skinned tiefling. So I was wondering, what color should I use for Subsurface Scattering ? Thank you in advance ! It'd help me a lot !

Is using the color red for the mid tone something done with all skin tones?

It should be a reddish colour, but not exactly red as it would be too strong. Searching up references and experimenting will definitely help!
