In all honesty, you just gotta learn how to do this yourself. Use a side mirror. Get good cutting using both hands and cutting using the side mirror. May take 30 mins or an hour but go slow. Use the comb as a ruler (biggest thing is people try to free hand those angles, or they cut too deep up in the "neck/underbeard" and they immediately lose all the weight. The precision is hard to do yourself, but the shape and cleanliness of the beard (which is what 99.999% of people only see) is totally doable at home. I'd rather have an 80% sharp cut at home than to go through years of failed barbers cutting my neckline too high, or taking all the weight from my patchy areas in one swipe. Should've spent those years learning to do it yourself rather than paying people to demoralize your spirit and ruin months of growth while you shop around for a barber. Your best beard barber is yourself.

Would you guys be able to address how to comb/style your beard as it gets longer in regards to how it contours? For instance when mine was shorter it contoured to my face nicely. Now that it's getting to be a couple inches should I brush it straight down or contour it around my chin? Straight makes it longer but less full and contours is shorter but more full. It could just be how I cut mine though that makes it this way.

I wish that i had such understanding barbers in my society. Over my place they're more of barbs, who think that beard had only one style,i.e. stubble, with no neckline and sharp cheeklines, with moustache length not even touching the lining of upper lips. I wish i had these guys near me.

Most Barbers here don't even know how to fine tune and shape the beard. They end up reducing volume so much that I have started doing it on my own.

I’ve been doing all my barbering for more than 15 years to my great satisfaction. I was so often disappointed by the cuts I got, even from the same persons that did fantastic the first time! Then it would be like “what the hell happened?” Patience, decent lighting and some mirrors. Anytime you want. And can keep things trimmed regularly. Yes, a bit to much off at times. But honestly, 5 times better than what the pros have done, and always improving.

Freshmens Alley try a bison hair brush, and more wax than oil. But use both! I use my oil twice a day, after a shower in the am and before I go to bed after I wash my face

I had a beard pretty well taken care of. It was square, and I specifically asked to just sharpen it; not to shorten anything. The barber I went to was an idiot and he took off an inch as well as chopped off my edges. Now I have a circular beard. The idiot. Please, someone, make a vid for Toronto/GTA barbers.
