Pete Johns Due to serious illness I’m not able to battle interface problems and other continuing daw updates and changes. Hey there my friend. iOS projects are able to be opened on a Mac, however Mac projects can’t be opened is iOS. This is due to the extra features on Mac that aren’t available on the he iOS version, like master track and effects automation. I suggest having one as the “master” project and then sending a mix down to the other person for recording, then sharing any new tracks as stems back to the master project. Alas no. This is the one thing on my (and everyone’s) wish list but it is currently not possible. Probably a decision from Apple to “protect” artists’ music form being copied. But dorks do any favours to those of us creating our one music!

Another great video! I notice that in your example project you have both audio and MIDI files. Some are merged too (not sure what that is used for). So it's possible to export/convert a file with MIDI in to a two-track stereo .wav file, from within GarageBand?

Hey there. Yes it is possible to export and mix down you track to stereo, but the only thing you can’t do is export the actual MIDI information from GarageBand iOS unfortunately.

I have a project with 2 tracks, a guitar from Bias / inter-app audio and the other is vocals. I’ve exported my songs to files but my problem is i don’t know how to play them on my iPhone other than on voice recorder. I’d like to play it as an album ( if i don’t want to share them with anyone else ) and iPhone don’t have any app to play the song file in the phone. They only have the music streaming services . Hey there. There is an app called “Documents” which is not only a great file manager, it also has a great media player built in. I show it in this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIe6h599qbBnqLs. (The WiFi transfer option is the focus of the video but if you have all the files together you’ll find the player works nicely).

I wonder what is time saving when export long, multitrack project from the ipad m2. I can't find that test on YT. on ipad pro 11 gen 2 exports are so time consuming, its almost 1:1. Export time of one hour project is 1 hour.

You probably don’t need to compress going between iOS devices - just AirDrop perhaps? Make sure you’re in the browse tab of the Files app to enable the compress option.

Hey there. So, unfortunately there hasn't (in my experience), ever been a way to get your music in to your music library in iOS, apart from adding to a playlist on iTunes and syncing (using a PC/Mac, which I'm not sure is possible anymore?)

Hey there my friend. GarageBand iOS projects should be able to be opened in GarageBand on a Mac. However if they have been edited and saved on Mac they can’t be reopened in GarageBand iOS. If there is something not working it may be a third party plugin or similar that is perhaps not supported in the Mac version.

Hi there Pete, been using your channel to figure out GarageBand and it’s been a massive help 👊 Recently purchased The Ravenscroft piano app and linked it to GarageBand. Really happy with the overall quality but when I export the song in the usual way (as if using in built GB piano) I get a file that has no audio whatsoever. I've had the same experience. I'm using iOS 14.1 and the latest version of iOS garageband (2.3.9). When I select the circle w three dots I don't get "compress as an option. I've had no luck sharing w friends to collaborate. it's maddening

well, I´ve found out that you have to send from the archive not, the garageband app, and you have to use an icloud mail in order to send as a garageband project. Maybe there are other ways, but this is the one I´ve been succesful with. I guess Pete already said that in the video? but you talk a little fast for an old man like me:-)

Thank Pete. I just saw this, but I think a lot has changed! I have GB 2.13.11 for iPadOS (14.7.1). When I export a .band project, (not for working together in de Cloud) and make a ZIP file of it, it says that the zip file consists of 23 files! The preview can not been seen! But when I send it wireless to my new MacMini, the .zip file ends up in the downloads folder. When unzipped I can open the .band file in GB for MacOS, and it play as it should!!! So that is okay!

Hi there. Are you running iOS 13? This feature isn’t available in earlier iOS versions. Also make sure you are in the “Files” app and not GarageBand.

You generally want to ensure you are in GarageBand (not Files), then tap “open in”, then “save to files”.

Hi Pete😁 i must empty my iCloud and put .band data on my gdrive and pc. I DL one of them, and it became a .zip folder. As I put that back in my iCloud it was not openable. How can I move .band data to several storages for that I could move it back on my iPad or iCloud to open it later again in GB? I’m afraid to destroy my data with moving .band data around. Hey Pete, I know this completely off topic but I'd like to know if you know anything or can maybe make a video on this item "Rode D power plug in line mic signal booster". It appears to be a signal booster for dynamic microphones but there's also things like Fethead and Cloudlifter which have videos on KZbin but there's nothing on the Rode item. I don't know if it does the same job or what do you think?

Hey Donald. I’m not aware of this device either actually. I have seen videos on the Fethead and Cloudlifter and it does sound like this is a similar device but I will need to look in to it more. I don’t currently use a lot of dynamic mics for anything that needs a significant gain boost but will try to investigate this more. I would love a Shure SM7B at some stage but have heard that I would need something like this to boost the audio gain.

Okay yeah I'll maybe start with a SM58 it's a good shure dynamic mic, much cheaper than 7B. I don't have any acoustic treatment in my space so I heard that dynamic mics are a great alternative because they pick up less noise but then they need some gain boost.
