But your pointer to change the setting to "allow existing and new codes" saved me. Worked just as showed. Hi Brandon. Thanks for sharing this amazing knowledge. Why do we need a domain to publish power bi to web, while we can register a MS365 enterprise trial account. In your tutorial to setup a MS365 enterprise trial account, i noticed that when MS365 enterprise trial account expires, we can still using power bi service. We can still login into MS365 admin using .onmicrosoft account instead of our own domain account, isnt it? So basically i dont understand why we need to setup our own domain, will it affect our service when trial expired? Look forward to hear from you.

@BrandonMichals Жыл бұрын
Hi Diego, how are you trying to embed? Are you choosing File-->Embed Report-->Publish to web (public)? If so, you should see a pop-up window titled "Embed code" that shows the link URL, an HTML snippet, a drop-down to pick the size, an option to upload a placeholder image, a dropdown to select the default page, and a preview of the report to the right.
@diegollonabarreda9549 Жыл бұрын
@@BrandonMichals thanks. We were able to embed the report but it still asked to login. I read some where that the only way to avoid this was to publicly publish it, meaning the link is open to anyone and search engine bots can access it. Do you know any other way to share a report with someone who doesn't have q license?
@BrandonMichals Жыл бұрын
You're correct, if you choose "Publish to web (public)", Google can index the report, and if you read the terms of use, Microsoft even reserves the right to publish it in their gallery if they want to. The two official ways to share a report with someone who doesn't have a license are to purchase 1) a Premium capacity subscription (this is different than a Premium-per-user license) or 2) an Embedded capacity subscription. There's also at least one third-party service that allows you to share your report with users who don't have Power BI licenses. It's not free, but it's cheaper than the above two options. I haven't used it myself, so I don't want to recommend or mention it here, but if you do some searching, you should be able to find it. Please let me know if that helps.

It's possible that Microsoft has slightly different options available based on geographic location. Where are you located? Also, when you click the gear icon in the upper-right of the Power BI Service (i.e., powerbi.com), do you have an option named "Admin portal"? If so, when you go to the Admin portal, what are the first few tabs you see? It should be "Tenant settings", "Usage metrics", "Users" etc.

When you're on powerbi.com (i.e., the "Power BI Service"), if you click the gear icon in the upper right, you should see an option for "Admin Portal". Once you click on that, near the top of the Admin Portal page, you should see "Tenant Settings". If you don't see either the "Admin Portal" or "Tenant Settings", then you are not logged in as an administrator. You would need to use an account with administrator privileges. As an alternative, you can create a new (free) Microsoft365 email address and set up your own tenant--I show how to do it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6rdaIOlmcSAnas

Is this the only way you have been able to share without a license? Looking for other options to either embed in SharePoint online or in Teams with only the free version.

I'm not a SharePoint user, but if you click the "Teams" tab (on the left side of Teams), then click the "+" icon at the top, then choose "Website", you can enter the "publish to web" URL there. Let me know if that helps.

Mohammed, if your Microsoft 365 account is from your organization, you will need to contact the Power BI admin for your org to enable the "publish to web" feature. Or, if you just want to use the Power BI service on your own, you can create a new (free) Microsoft 365 email address and set up your own tenant--I show how in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6rdaIOlmcSAnas

@@BrandonMichals btw, your video is the best, spent three hours looking for such info with no luck. There's publish to web or portal, and when I embed in my site it asks the public user to sign in. @BrandonMichals Жыл бұрын
Sorry again that you're having problems. As far as I know, the UK region doesn't have any restrictions. Microsoft has a comprehensive guide here that looks like it covers all of the potential issues: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-publish-to-web Have you seen that article? There's even a section that addresses what to do if you don't have admin access. Please let me know if that helps. One other idea would be to start from scratch and try to create a new Power BI free account. (It's possible there was a glitch when Microsoft set up your account.) I made a video showing the step-by-step here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6rdaIOlmcSAnassi=oPpCZVlCVRRLajJ- Note that Microsoft changed the process since I made that video, so just stop once the process prompts you for payment info. At that point, you will already have set up your new account, so no need to go any further.

Microsoft changed the signup for the free email thru Microsoft 365. In my "free business email" video, some people asked a similar question. Here's what I wrote: "Microsoft changed the signup process after I created the video. However, you can still get a free business email and use the Power BI Service. Choose the Office 365 E3 Trial, go through the signup, but stop once you get to the payment info page--don't enter any payment info. At that point, you will have already set up your @onmicrosoft.com address, so just go to app.powerbi.com/. There, you will be able to log in and use the Power BI Service." Please let me know if that helps.

is there a way to share a responsive dashboard for free? I mean without belong to a company with a pro account. embed to web requires an admin with a pro account, even if you have your own business email and a free power bi service.
@BrandonMichals Жыл бұрын
If you have a Power BI free account, on the Power BI service (powerbi.com), you can go to File->Embed report->Publish to web (public), and that will give you a URL for your report that you can send in an email or publish to a website. (I show that in this video.) If you don't see that option, you need to go to the Admin Portal (gear icon in the upper right), then choose Tenant settings->Export and sharing settings->Publish to web, and make sure 1) the toggle is set to "Enabled" and 2) the "Allow existing and new codes" radio button is selected. (Also shown in this video). If you don't have access to the Admin portal or don't see the "Tenant settings" tab in the Admin portal, you are not the admin for your tenant. You would need to ask the admin for your tenant to change the setting for you. As an alternative, you can create a separate free account by following the steps in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6rdaIOlmcSAnas . (See my responses to the comments in that video for important changes to Microsoft's signup process.) Please let me know if this helps!

If you want to DM me on Twitter @BrandonMichals and send me some screen shots, I can help you. (Or post a private video to YT and send me the link.) Hello Brandon, really educative. Do you provide Power BI consulting services? We need to embed PBI reports on our website, but will like to control users that can access the report via user login authentication. Wix and Weebly both currently have a free website option, and according to their documentation, they allow you to embed HTML code. So you can use the Power BI "publish to web" feature to create a portfolio on either of those platforms.
