Here is the next video in the Willys Wagon Build, it was a pile of work to finish out these sheet metal changes....and then seal the bottom...but it got me one step closer to paint.

What wild is I fully believe that you can build an entire vehicle completely custom fabricated. Like from design all the way to finished product I fully believe you’ve got the capabilities to completely product a finished vehicle out of scrap metal and steel etc etc.

Great job Ian. I started out building hot rods and have brought what I’ve learned over into the Jeep/Off-Road arena, which is probably why I drive my Jeep like a baby carriage when off-roading. 😁 Mike

Love the work on the willys. I'm also removing my door handles, but I don't think welding in a patch is any easier than extending the one raised line. In fact, I'm making fiberglass doors that are 4 inches longer. Good for a truck cab, not so much needed for a wagon (I also have willys panel wagon too)

Noticed a few pieces of square tubing that are open towards the front of the vehicle (end of the transmission tunnel and to the side). Are you planning on capping those?

Please help me answer this question is it or is it not a person well did on my frame of my truck. I'm told you are never supposed to Weld on a frame of any kind is their true?
@Stahodad4 жыл бұрын
It may depend on where you live. Different States have different regulations. It may depend on the vehicle too and the type of damage. Some repairs do require a frame replacement.
@BigTireGarage4 жыл бұрын
I think what you are referring to is semi truck frames. Vehicle frames are welded together at the factory. Semi truck frames are riveted together because the frames twist so much in initial acceleration
@murraymadness46742 жыл бұрын
@@BigTireGarage The difference is larger trucks have frames that are made of a harder steel, NOT mild steel like all the smaller trucks, so welding them makes them brittle and they will crack. They can crack without welding too. Where the change occurs is not always clear, my e450 transit bus is still mild steel, but the 2-ton C50 may be hardened.

Would be curios to get some more feedback on the etching before epoxy primer step. The good epoxy primers I use for marine all suggest scuff sanding the metal first. Tedious on vehicle projects with all the nooks and crannies...so curios the verdict on etching. Meanwhile...not impressed with how these single part automotive etching primers stick...or rather how they don't!
@BigTireGarage4 жыл бұрын
I used a cloth with an acid solution mixed with water. Yeah I know what you mean on the self etch...that is why I used the epoxy

@@BigTireGarage I guess I'm talking about the fenders, they don't look stock, I'm assuming they didn't bolt up in factory locations. I didn't see in the series where you touched on them or how you ended up using them in lieu of something stock, just curious.

Yes The entire front end of this wagon is custom because I didn't get the stock front end when I bought it. It is a combination of RJ aftermarket, and custom built.

Sweet build! Now if we can just get you to pronounce Willys correctly. ;) For the uninformed, it's "WILL-ISS"
@BigTireGarage4 жыл бұрын
Ha ha, well me excuse is that it is not really that much will-iss anymore...so I call it willees
@murraymadness46742 жыл бұрын
will-ees is how they are pronounced, because how to you say plural will-iss? will-iss-ees? that sounds..uninformed, and the will-ess jeeps..they are lots of them, do you call them jeep-ees? you can call them anything you want, but we have called them will-eees forever (at least at the drag strips I've always gone to and hotrod shows i've always been to) and will continue to do so for the three of them I own
