Tbh I think this is how fast shifting with manual should be especially with race transmissions and race clutch, race cars don’t have any delays at all when shifting gears

There is an issue with race gearboxes that is pretty annoying, if you shift up it will actually have a bump in wheel speed so it will cause wheelspin even if you have no throttle input (you can test this going slow and just changing up gear), when you are on throttle and changing gears mid corner it really unsettles the car, that should not be happening.

It's not a glitch. A proper race transmission is usually a sequential gearbox, not the same as the manual gearbox you can get in a Porsche for example. Sequential is faster but no good for a road car

Finding this funny now. I swear T10 did NO testing at all by any racers, painters, tuners etc... give them time to resolve these things, i hope they do at least respond to the community with something soon (even if it takes them time to implement) [AB]

Perhaps they're trying to simulate race transmissions that don't need the clutch engaged to gear shift? But even then that doesn't explain why manual without clutch is slower. Strange.

I like to swap my clutch to the A button instead of the left bumper, you can press both A and shift up or down with just your thumb

It makes sense, in real life it's a dual clutch system. So you do have a "clutch" but it's automatically engaging.

@@DriftNick "free speed is free speed" is just false from a physics standpoint. in physics; the fastest car will always be the most efficient car in terms of energy expendature. what i mean by that is, by the time you need to load up the suspension and tires with lateral G load, the tires are already so hot from you trying to drag race that they will be way outside of optimal pressure and therefore grip, and therefore maximum lateral g load or braking load. grip is a function of tire pressure which is a function of sum friction differential.

This was very much intentional because it’s meant to emulate the behavior of a sequential transmission.

Also some cars don’t even have auto blip even with a race transmission. You will hear the lack of blip sound on downshifts, and must do it manually but just without a clutch, or else it gets very unstable.

If they keep this then you could play it off as driving a DSG gearbox in sport mode and you can change gears with the paddles manually without clutch. A lot of drag cars have this in real life nowadays as it eliminates time between shifting with clutch and stick.

Not to be that guy But I want you to go to the still picture of side by side and pause it. Now look at the distance between the marker on both. The one that’s 2kpm slower is noticeably further away. Now look at the section time. It’s also longer. Not look at the “current lap time” it is as well so the reason why it’s like that is because your lines are not the same or you just didn’t drive the “manual” the same distance as you did the “manual/C”

I was confused when I first drove the 787B as to why it was shifting so fast, I thought my clutch inputs must be perfect. Turns out it wasn't even using the clutch except for taking off out of the pits.

Real race cars have a clutch only for the start then they blitz trough the gears with no lifting or pressing the clutch and since you are putting the race transmission on that means you've converted your car into a race car The fact that this only applies to race transmission makes me happy

In the freeze frame, shouldn't the time showing be the same? The current lap and the segment time have the manual w/clutch at the board at 8.744/2.861 where as just the manual is showing 8.693/2.792. I am wondering with the manual where it will be positioned at the same exact time of 8.744? Or am I totally messing up on how I am reading the time and position on the straight?

I agree. Manual frame should also be at 2.861. The car would be a little bit closer to the board. Still slower than MC though.

Yeah you’re right. You can even pause the KZbin video when each car reach the 150 m board at the same position and look at the times. Then you can see maybe there is no difference at all or hard to conclude there is one.

There is 2 setting for 2 gear types, H shift is manual with clutch. The manual without clutch is for triptronic. IE paddles. The settings are for stearing wheel. Manual gears aren't optimized for controller, they expect you to drive automatic.

Lot of cars don’t need clutch so it’s expected. But More baffling is some older 80s cars I tried also didn’t need clutch to shift even if they are prob H patterns. And clutch use actually hinders you at race starts for most cars I tried except one, you don’t need it to get off the line which seems like a bug. as you just floor the throttle without pressing clutch and still launch off even with M+C on. and you do so without risk of stalling from using clutch. About the test, it’s hard to know the difference when the test had the 2 cars at significantly different positions and also different time where you paused it. Try pausing the KZbin video at the right time and compare times at the appropriate metre boards and i found I cannot make a conclusion from that.

Lots of glitches. Had one my car did a burn out for 10 mins after I changed my overall gear the top one in mid test drive and it made me 15 mill cash and now I'm level 575 lol. Own every car in the game.

I was just coming here to say this exact thing. The clutch is for pulloff, but once you are going you can shift without clutch. And considering you need the race transmission in upgrades to do it. That's my guess.

Its odd that it is just automatically doing it. when I used to play on Forza 2 and 3. You could just tap the clutch and upshift at the same time. I am not sure how it works on a wheel as I race with a wheel now.

@@JustDevon More like good job to you! I didn't do anything different other than the clutch setting. That being said, I learned the clutch pedal doesn't work really on a wheel. Had to map it to a button after 3 or 4 multiplayers stalls at start. Works fine with a button.

Did you play around with the Automatic Steering Alignment setting which is new under the controller customization? I turned it down to 0 for a test, and it feels almost like a turned down sim steering without the sim twitch. Could be placebo tho, i need to test it in a couple of laps and compare times

I like this change for race gearboxes. It makes perfect sense and removes the stupif lack of realism involved in using mwc everywhere. However it should not be faster than regular manual in these scenarios since they're effectively no different.

I disagree, the game has some huge issues, that I can't deny, but the multiplayer is fantastic, and to be honest that's 90% of why I play racing games, so I'm happy with that. Let's hope they iron out the issues sooner rather than later.

Shifting in this game is stupid. Automatics are crazy good now alot of pro racers use them in real life raceing. Even auto with Sequential option. Sequential shifting should be something that you can just install and then it's as fast as it can be

Seems like you’d have to weigh the pros and cons of using PI on a race transmission or if you’d gain more speed by using the PI on other upgrades like handling or power. For example if you only had enough PI available to get either the race transmission or an exhaust upgrade, would the performance of the exhaust upgrade make up for the quicker shifting of the race transmission?

Seems like there's 1 thing to be mindful of though. It seems like it "dumps the clutch" a little, making it a little easier to spin tires while shifting out of low speed turns.

low speed turns? how about any lateral force. IRL everything has consequences. load up the suspension with high g's and you'll start losing time to people using the clutch properly in order to allow the suspension & tires to adapt to the torque dump. the fastest times are going to be a hybrid style where you dump torque when the tires can deal with it (straight lines), and protect tire temp when optimal tire temp/pressure decides maximum lateral G load. in real racing, slow and steady actually ends up being faster than fast and stupid.

I race on a wheel and rig with three pedals and an H-pattern when I need it, and this is what may actually tip me into buying Forza Motorsport. Having to use the clutch to shift in cars which realistically wouldn't require it always annoyed me about Forza titles; if they've actually fixed it, that's a great step in the right direction.
