I live in Mexico and use a family owned package delivery service. Half of the family lives in Laredo, Texas. They drive once a week to the location in Mexico I live in. All Customers use their Laredo, TX address. If you live in Mexico this is definately the option to look for locally.

Another fabulous Brighton video con muy importante información! ¡Muchas gracias! I’m sure I’ll be referring to this one a lot once we’re living in Mexico. We were just trying to decide whether to buy a small generator here or wait and get it in Mexico. Guess now I need to read up on what’s allowed across the border. So much to learn!
@AlmostRetiredinMexico

Watch those extra fees if you buy it on Amazon in Mexico. Not that I'd encourage you to sneak it across the border... but lots of people use small generators for camping or RVing. Seems like it wouldn't raise any red flags (unless it was still new in the box...)

Check out Facebook Marketplace for good deals. Or join Facebook groups for expats in whichever city you want to head to - then post a message asking if anyone has something available. There are local agents, but they tend to focus on the more profitable properties.

Thank you for the video, I do not understand why is it so expensive to ship to Mexico. I live in Miami and wanted to send a book to MTY. The price was 120 dollars!
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico 2 жыл бұрын
It's not really that expensive to ship to Mexico - as long as you are buying a product that has standard Amazon shipping. It seems to be when a seller chooses to send it themselves, they can set the shipping price themselves and some of them choose to inflate the shipping costs to hide the high prices. I think a lot of small booksellers do this. The book costs just 1 cent, but the price is really in the shipping. :-(

Would be a fortune. There are companies on the US side of border which specialize in receiving purchase and forwarding them to you in Mexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried this. But it might be a good option to add to the mix for things that ship free to the US and cost an ungodly amount to ship to Mexico. As KNERD mentions, there are companies that specialize in doing this for Mexico - many where you pay a monthly fee that covers sending your mail south. But maybe for a one-time shipment, your idea could work. Especially if it's a lot of small inexpensive things (because the fee on Amazon seems to be charged for each item - not the total shipment.) With a forwarding service, you could ship them all items free, then pay one fee to ship it south.

@@AlmostRetiredinMexico I use Back Porch Mail Center in Laredo. For 120 a year, you get your regular mail in Mexico. Packages are $3 each for receipt (labor for logging them in) plus some sort of delivery fee to Mexico. They have two offices in Monterrey, or will ship packages/mail further inland for a higher fee of course. In some cases is it the same for Amazon to send it to your if they have it, but at times either cannot be found on their site so gotta use eBay. I have also noticed shipments from sites like ALiExpress and BangGood in the past few months started picking in delivery speed since they stopped using Correos de Mexico, and now use low cost package delivery service. In 2-3 weeks you can now have your package in hand. Compared to Correos de Mexico where it was 2-3 months!

question: when driving to Mexico do you recommend cars with 4WD or a All Wheel drive, or can you get buy on Mexican Roads with 2WD?
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico 2 жыл бұрын
That depends on the area you're driving in. The main roads you definitely don't need 4WD, even most of the dirt roads in cities don't need 4WD. But if you want to go exploring - like off to beaches that are more isolated, then you'll want 4WD. I wouldn't recommend a car with slim tires or close to the ground. Topes (speed bumps) can come out of nowhere (as well as potholes.)

Do I have to buy another Prime account for Mexico Amazon for better shipping if I already have Prime of the US Amazon? I assume so. I accidentally bought Canadian Prime when I was trying to show my Prime membership at a Whole Foods in Buffalo, NY. This was at least a couple miles from the border. You see how it says "piscina alberca" on that add in Mercado Libre? Piscina is the typical word everyone uses in the Spanish speaking world but everyone calls a pool "alberca" in Mexico. Alberca is derived from Arabic, people theorize that conquistadores from Southern Spain (with a heavier Muslim influence) spread the word in Mexico. Amazon will still contact you on your phone if you have a US number. Both Mexican and US orders sent to Mexico. At least for me they did.
@AlmostRetiredinMexico

If you want Prime in Mexico, you need to buy it here. But I'm not sure it's worth it as I feel like I buy more from Mercado Libre or Amazon.com (US.) You must have said, "eh" too often at Whole Foods. Or maybe you were too nice... Interesting history. I learned Alberca down here. In Guatemala I learned Piscina. Different conquestors further south? BTW, I just made up a word. You saw it here first.

@@AlmostRetiredinMexico It did 3 weeks in Xela and 3 weeks in Antigua. I loved the weather in Antigua. The school was called Cervantes. They were really focused on teaching grammar and I was kind of done with it so I would basically tell them what kind of activities we'd do in class. I made it into kind of book club where'd I'd read books in Spanish and we'd discuss what happened and themes the books brought up.

Why the heck are vitamins so expensive on amazon.mx? Some are 3-10x more expensive!
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico 2 жыл бұрын
This is my pure speculation: Mexico regulates Vitamins and Supplements and the US does not. So any vitamin coming from the US needs to go through an expensive approval process to cross the border. Like I said, that's my guess. If I ever get a definitive answer, I'll make a video!
