Since i just purchased my first side by side, figured this was an appropriate video. Thank you David for your help.

I love side by sides, here in Sweden nobody want them cuz they cant shoot Steel ammunition without modification, I just bought a beautiful Swedish side by side from 1921 for like 100 euros.

I have an old Aya no.3 that I bought from my local gunshop, £250 it cost me and I love it. I get a much greater satisfaction from hitting with my side by side.

I have an AYA Yeoman, not quite as fancy as this one, 35 to 40 years old, non-ejector, £150 from my local gun shop, great fun, love it.

I still take my Savage Fox Model B to the trap range on occasion and outshoot the guys with the custom fit trap guns. I have owned it for fifty years. Paid $179 for it in 1971. It has taken a lot of rabbits, pheasants, quail, and a couple of hundred crows. When I hold this SxS I am back in my youth. Nothing points like a double gun.

I've beaten men using Krieghoffs and Perazzis with my Remington 870 Express 28" barrel. A $15,000 shotgun isn't going to help if you don't practice often. Heck, I don't believe there is any shotgun over $5,000 that shoots better than the best $5,000 shotgun; after $5,000 or so, it stops being about smooth triggers and custom fit stocks, and more about wood quality and engraving and brand name (like a Rolex). But you hand me an 870 or 1100 and I can likely beat a rich guy with a BT-99 or DT11 ACS.

I purchased a CZ "Hammer Coach" at a pawn shop (here in the US), for $350. Barely used. 12 gauge and 20in barrel. Early AM hunts in the early fall after the harvest has been taken.....rabbits have no chance.

Enjoy you're tutorials David. I commonly use auto loaders. Just picked up a nice new side by side. Looking forward to giving it a go. CZ project upland Bobwhite G2. Not a fine old English side by side. But quite a fine field gun for me here in the states. Are there any tips related to pointing and lead. In contrast to the auto loader. Thanks.

I just picked up a 100+ yr old Belgian one for $350, has the same style triggers, and was hand fitted. Just no fancy engraving.

More of a 3 gun guy myself...Going to my first introduction to trap and going to run 3 sessions tomorrow. Came here for a "what am I gonna get into. Will be using an old side by side...little bit more pistol grip then the one shown in video but other than that looks the same.

Would recommend using slow motion during the shooting sequences so we can see the mount and the trigger pulls. Secondly, I am a lefty (new to the double trigger world). Would you recommend staying with same trigger sequence of front to back or reversing the sequence?

Hello there! I have a sauer & suhl 16/70 shotgun. It is right handed and I am left handed. Is that sensible to subcontract a new stock for it? Then I could hunt with a nice side-by-side shotgun. Side-by-sides are awesome in my opinion! Hope you answer, thanks!

Whats tough about the American side by side market i notice, everyone talks about oldet models being better but they cant shoot steel safely and the only newer models that are said tobereally good quality are ridiculously expensive. Then there seems to be a general distrust of the quality of Turkish made side by sides which are affordable.

First most important have your gun fitted to you and after that look at the bird and react as if you would point your finger. The majority of poor results are due to an ill fitting gun. If you shoot game then have it fitted wearing what you would normally wear, same for skeet, dtl whatever. No point in just wearing a shirt for the fitting then on a cold winters day having two pullovers and a thick coat on.

Do the shells normally get ejected like that? That gun just spat them out which looks cool. With the lock, do you mean it includes safety or is that some other form of lock?
@pbgd33 жыл бұрын
Locks refers essentially to the hammers, sears, cocking mechanism and hammers. Basically the guts of the gun. This one has side plates with the guts attached to them so that when he popped off the plates the guts came off and is called a side lock. As opposed to say a boxlock where you take the stock off and all the bits stay in the metal of the action and aren't on the stock. The shells popping out is entirely different. In the early days of break actions you would open the gun and use a rod to push the spent cases out. Very quickly an improvement was made called an extractor which as the gun opened pushed the case out so you can easily remove the cases. That was the standard for a long time and then ejector guns became the norm where the extractors instead of just kifting the shells are spring loaded so once the gun opens the springs are released tossing the shell free. Shopping for a side by side it woild be typical to see it listed as say a Round action boxlock ejector model or a side lock non ejector. Personally I dislike sidelocks as the wood seems delicate on then around all the inletting.

Hello. I have an opportunity to buy a second hand but unfriend AYA No. 4 Deluxe. Should I be able to shoot clays proficiently (subject to my own ability of course) with this shotgun?

What utter nonsense. He flips the barrels up to the action like a clay shooter instead of closing it with the barrels pointing in a safe direction and places the stock so far out of his shoulder pocket that it looks like he`s firing it from his armpit. Bizarre!

What a load of bollocks. I have an O/U that fits me & I shoot fairly well with. I also have a S/S that is too short & guess what? I struggle hitting anything with it. This video was totally contradictory, gun fit plays a massive part no matter how you shoot & what with.
