Hey Bill, Great video! My wife when a kid used to like to shoot slingshots and funny thing we were walking through the woods and out of the blue,she said she would like to get another slingshot! She is 60 & I am 64. So here we are learning how to cut cards! Can't wait to be able to hit the broad side of a barn! Thanks again!

Dear Bill, My name is Carl Covey and I pastor a church in Rich Hill MO! I recently got back into sling shots and I believe it will be good exercise for my shoulders! I saw on line one of your sling shots, the Boy Scout sling shot! also, I saw where a person can put together several different kinds of plastics and make his own material for sling shots! I am 74 now and have been here at the same church for 46 years in December! If you could direct me to the boy scout sling shot I would deeply appreciate it! Thank you so much and may the Lord bless you!

That was very impressive. I haven't slingshotted (?) since I was a kid...50+years. We made our own out of tree branches. Seems like things have moved forward, hahaha. Your vid has inspired me....I'm gonna order a slingshot, and try to follow your instructions.....thanks again.

Bill.. For some reason I have overlooked this video of yours and found it when looking for HTS info. I hadn't realised you used the top band touching your cheek as an aiming reference! I will certainly try this this weekend as I'm getting more serious about accuracy. Thank you for this vid, I'll PM you on the forum with how I go. - allbunsglazing

For this video, I wanted to make dead sure that the card gets cut on the first try so I went with .44 caliber lead. The lead provides plenty of weight for penetration and it's surface is a touch rough, so that if I'm off by a hair's width it'll still cut the card. Whereas if I use steel ball bearings, the shot has to be absolutely perfect to cut all the way through... a little off center and the lighter and smoother steel tends to crease the card instead of cutting it.

Actually to put it in the simplest way, pointing is aiming. Speaking as somebody who has done quite a bit of work with a rifle as an SO Sniper and quite a bit as a qualified expert marksman with a pistol... more precisely, when you point an object and then use various reference points on that object to gain accuracy by lining them up on the target... you are in fact aiming. If you get used to the reference points and through practice know the relative point of impact, you will gain precision.
@FrenchDavid50
@FrenchDavid50 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Bill, this is good advice! Certainly improved my aiming, but I do have a nitpick. In the description you say to not cant, or tilt the forks. This is not necessarily good advice, as tilting the slingshot between a horizontal and vertical hold can actually be more accuracte! It has to do with the force you're exerting on the frame while the slingshot is pulled back, that force tends to push the frame left or right for a horizontal hold or down for a vertical hold. But you can balance it out and have precise aim with this method by tilting the slingshot to about 45 degrees.... but it only works if your angle is always the same! Which is hard, so since I shoot only natural wood forks that I carve and sand into nice slingshots, I will wood-burn in a line that will be perpendicular to the ground when I've tilted it to the right angle. So canting, or tilting isn't bad and can actually improve accuracy! If you have the exact same angle every time.

Well I'm 74 can't remember when I last used a slingshot But started shooting and making them about a week ago Now I can hit a can from about 45 ft But I liked how you explain it. But it's definitely how you decide to aim your slingshot and be consistent,with it thks

Bill, I'm smacking the thumb nuckle,on my hand when I shoot. What can be causing this? Bands are straight, co sistsnt anchor point, consistent release. I notice you angle the slingshot handle back towards your body a bit- does that help prevent the ammo from hitting thr hand?

This is brilliant. I hesitate to say, but I will in the interest of polite disagreement. Shooting a rifle at distance (breath and trigger control)is unlike shooting a shotgun at a flying target (both eyes open and leading). Shooting a pistol is yet a separate discipline. What you do so impressively seems most similar to bow and arrow. They simply are not "aimed all the same".

Guys, I think found another way...here it is... Do not use your eyes to aim the slingshot.. I find that's when you screw up, trust your first instinct to do the job for you... Look at your target with slingshot at waist level.. Then bring the slingshot up to where your instinct tells you to.. And fire! Don't hesitate and try and switch angles... Wherever you landed at, that's the place you fire
