great video. one thing on the zeroing settings: with a 20" barrel, for the 25m part, the rear sight should be at 8/3+1 (6/3+2 for the removable carry handle). then when you confirm at 300 you remove the +1 or +2. This is for 62gr ammo so it won't necessarily apply for heavier match ammo

Thanks.

I can't see past 25 yards clearly LOL, the joys of being near-sighted.

You should be an outstanding iron sight shooter since near sightedness means you can easily remain focused on the from sight. If the target is too blurry just decrease the size of rear sight aperture. BTW, near sightedness is truly an asset to good iron sight shooting. I know, I am near sighted and it has helped me become a champion shooter.

@@charlesludwig9173 that's encouraging to hear and I wasn't aware of that. I'm a new shooter and I greatly prefer iron sights on my AR over red dots at the distances my eyes can see lol. Maybe because I'm old school and like reliabilty of iron sights. I wish I could chat more, it would be nice to have someone like you as a reference to help me out. Are you on Facebook?

Wow Andy! 800 yards with open sights is amazing. All my rifles are scoped, so I have to ask; Doesn't the front sight blot out the target past 300 yds? And doesn't the 70-80 grain bullet in a 20 inch barrel go subsonic at 800 yards or so?
@PracticalAccuracy3 жыл бұрын
with my elevation (1000 feet) and shooting black hills 77 gr TMK, I am subsonic just before 1000 yards. My front sight is 9 moa wide so it will completely cover the width of the target. the best I can describe it is the target looks like the tip of a pencil on top of my sight. In 2 weeks, I'll have some video of me shooting iron sights (ar15) out to 1000 yards.Thanks for watching.

It's impressive, but I guess kind of pointless when you can have the best kind of scopes now. Ease of use, but if you had to survive with just iron sights, you could
@PracticalAccuracy3 жыл бұрын
Yes, a scope is what you want when it really matters. However, it is an amazing feeling hitting at distance with irons, but just not all that practical in the real world. Thanks for watching.
@EEDad401 Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's pointless at all. If your scope breaks because you fell down or dropped the gun, you can still use iron sights.
@charlesludwig9173 Жыл бұрын
Shooting iron at 800 yards is not at all impressive. All it takes is a target diameter big enough for the shooter to maintain an understanding of relationship between the target and front sight also known as a hold.
@charlesludwig9173 Жыл бұрын
Not impressive at all. 1000 yard US Service Rifle Competition proves thousands can do it having some marksmanship training, mostly about countering wind and aiming strategies for low visibility targets.
