You should do a comparison between the amount of noise from 4K vs the "6K" setting. Similar to what you did at the beginning when analyzing the clips, but more thorough.

Another hard to understand aspect is that during low light you usually don't have much DR in the scene... Then why compressing all the input into V-Log is giving better results... compared to Cine-D you should have more space to record the same data...?
@impatrickt6 жыл бұрын
Light travels through clear glass the same way - It doesn't matter if you have a 100 feet of glass or 1mm. If it's clear the light is the same. A prime lens at f5.6 will let in the same amount of light as a 100mm telephoto at f5.6. Source: www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/content/prime-vs-zoom-can-you-tell-difference

Did you shoot both V-Log and Vivid in 10bit? why you say that Vivid has narrower color space?
@JooWorks7 жыл бұрын
Yep. all are 10bit 4k and 6k. Vivid is recorded into rec709 colour space when v-log is panasonic v-gamut. v-gamut is larger than adobe RGB so it's rather large. You can see it sometime like with the clipping saturation on this video. I'll do some videos about colour spaces and stuff soon.
@HardIsEasy7 жыл бұрын
Is Cine-D same as Vivid -> rec709? Yea explanation of relationship between color space and 8/10bit would be very nice. I thought that bits are what defines how many color gradiens you get... But apparently there is more to it.
@JooWorks7 жыл бұрын
Colour space is how what colours can be captured and how the colours are captured. Dynamic range is how wide is the distance between totally black and totally white. Bit depth is how many steps there is between totally white and totally black. I'll do some videos about these later on to explain these all and what's the practical application of them

Recently I saw someone use the CineV profile for the GH5. Tonight, I shot some night scenes using the CineV profile and 10-bit. The CineV profile has a much cleaner grain structure than Log. So, I brought my shots into DaVinci Resolve and I was able to pull out more shadow detail and tone down the saturation without losing the nice grain structure. I really like the colors and details I can capture with CineV.
@JooWorks6 жыл бұрын
I recommend shooting the same scene with both profiles and then lift (make bright) the shadows up from the cine-v profile to same level as the V-log or push v-log down (make dark) to the level of cine-v. I would assume they're not to be much of a difference in 10bits. 8bits maybe because V-log is not so good in 8bits. While you are at it, try to compare HLG, Cine-V and V-log. You might get interesting results.

What about if shooting slow mo at higher frame rates up to 60- 180fps? Thank you UPDATE: I see you kind of answered this in a comment below.. I have gh5 and metabones speedbooster with canon mount as I use Canon lenses I am wondering should I buy rokinon 12 mm with canon mount or micro 3/4 mount ... would speedbooster improve that lens even more?
@JooWorks7 жыл бұрын
VidooK ProductionS if you have the metobones, then get the canon mount one. The metabones one will make the lens wider, fastere, sharper and more bokelisous, and you can still just get your self a normal adapter (not speedbooster) and use the lens as it would look on a m4\3 mount.

Could You please help me with this question?; I have bought Samyang f2.0/12 mm NCS CS Ultra wide angle for mirrorless and I wanted to attach it to My Panasonic gh 5 via metabones speedbooster . Lens arrived today and I am surprised as it doesn't fit to metabones as well as it doesn't fit directly to the camera ... I realised that it is conon m mount and metabones is ef mount I am so confused and cannot find the answer in interent I can see there are adapters from ef lens to M body but I cannot find any from m lens to ef body would You please help Me ?
@JooWorks7 жыл бұрын
VidooK ProductionS I'm sorry, it migth just be that there is no adapter for that. Lenses with different mounts need a different distance from the sensor, because of focusing. For example canon ef need to be further from the sensor than m43 lenses Ef needs space for the mirror to fit in between. Because in the m43 there is no mirror that space can be used to fit an adapter in stead. So if the m-mount needs less space than the ef mount, then there is no space in between to fit the adpter. There might be some options of abapters with a diopter to change the focus distance, but they will be more expesive most likely. I wound return the lens and get the right one, or try and sell it. :-\

I’ve gotten to know my gh5 but am always sticking to the 2 native iso, 400 for daylight and 800 for indoors, lowlight. I use the ninja v and always shoot 4k 60 in prores- which gives me more noise but the dynamic range helps with post where i can just raise my shadows or lower highlights 3x more than without prores. I use topaz video ai for noise removal as it actually does quite a baller job. Im wondering from a veteran gh5 user, to which iso have you raised above 800 and could still get a nice clean image after noise reduction. I never even tried it as i expose my shots by : lowest iso, preffered aperture and sufficient shutter, and am kind of scared to even try to shoot above native😅

Just out of interest - what is the zoom lens you take off the GH5 in the video? Wasn’t aware you could get a zoom lens for M43 that went to f/1.8.
@JooWorks7 жыл бұрын
It's sigma 18-35mm f1.8 Nikon aps-c lens, but with metabones you can use it in m43 mount. The speedbooster will make it even faster f1.1 lens, but when it's zoom it isn't that fast. It's about the same as f1.4 native prime.

Great video. 90% of the “expert” camera channels will bang on about 180° shutter angle laws bla bla. It is absolutely valid to vary your shutter speed and for 60p playback or any electronic stability, faster shutter is better.
@spotcutsfilm7 жыл бұрын
Hi. Nice work. Tell me about shutter speed. Is it good use the same shutter speed and frame per second ? Do you think that it's doesn't matter when I shooting in the night?
@JooWorks7 жыл бұрын
The rule for shutter is normally to use 180 degree shutter. That's from the time of film and cinema cameras. There was this rolling wheel inside the camera that had half of open half closed. So 180 degrees of the wheel was closed. When the wheel was turning and the open part was visible the film inside that camera stayed put, but when the wheel was closed (other 180 degree) the film moved inside the camera to the next frame on the film roll. So in practice that means that if you shoot 25fps your shutter should be half of that 1/50s. Because each turn of the wheel, half was open half was closed. So if you shoot slowmo 60fps you should have your shutter at half of that 1/120. But if you want to get more light into the film/sensor you can now keep the shutter open all the time, like having a 360 degree shutter wheel. That was not possible when the film needed to move inside the camera. If you shoot 360 degree you'll get more motion blur for there is more time for objects to move during the exposure of the frame, but other that that there is no draw back. So for max light, shooting 24/25 fps use 1/25s shutter. If you shoot 60fps use minimum of 1/60s shutter.
@spotcutsfilm7 жыл бұрын
Joo.Works wow. Thank you for such a long and comprehensive answer:) Good luck 👍 👌
@PrezMaxHayden7 жыл бұрын
Well it can add a different effect depending on how long u keep the shutter open. As said above, There was a spinning wheel inside the camera that did a full revolution in 1/24th of a second. However it was a half circle. So the exposure was only 1/48th of a second. However, this didn’t stop film makers from Experimenting. They developed a wheel that u could change the shape of by either decreasing or increasing the gap between the beginning and the end of the half circle. Aka. decreasing/increasing shutter angle. Increasing the shutter angle, so making it anything higher that 180 degrees, exposed the film for longer which creates more motion blur. If u decrease the angle, so more Pac-Man shaped and less then 180 degrees, exposed the film for a shorter period of time. So There is less motion blur. See the battle at the beginning of gladiator for use of both, and the beginning of saving private Ryan as an example of smaller shutter angle. You’ll notice when things fly in the air they seem almost choppy. I’d say movement in the frame seems much more kinetic. On DSLR’s tho, instead of shutter angle it’s shutter speed, used for still photography. There is an equation to figure out the correspondence tho. To go from shutter angle to shutter speed it’s: 360 divided by the shutter angle times 24 (ex. 360/90=4 --> 4x24=96). So shutter speed is 1/96th. To go shutter speed to shutter angle it’s: 24 times 360 times shutter speed (ex. 24x360=8,640 --> 8,640x1/96=90) so shutter angle is 90 degrees. Hope this is helpful!

v-log you actually have less data per stop, but more stops of DR - So rec709 profiles will have more color information in the important stops - You are calling more accurate, but that is not really the case. Vivid ( not my preference ) will have more color information in the stops that carry the color in night shooting.

Good work mate! / Hyvää työtä äijjä! Mun kanavalle on tulos testivideota GH5 + Kipon Baveyes x0.7 EF-MFT AF II + Sigma 18-35mm Art. En tiä onko Metabonesin speedboosterilla samaa ongelmaa, mutta täydellä aukolla lähes kaikki lasit aika pehmeitä reunoilta, (lasit parempia esim. tuos täydenkennon 5DIII) Testasin: Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L + Sigma 50mm Art + Canon 85mm USM + Canon 100mm L Macro f2.8 myöskin varmistaakseni asiaa. Samoin täydellä aukolla aikas laitta chromaattiasta aberraatiota. Noh, video tulee mun kanavalle tuos alle viikon sisään kuitenkin!

Noissa kaikissa on omat huonot puolensa.

Nice tips... I am very close to selling my Sony ax-700 and getting a gh5 instead, for that cinematic look... You mention 6K in the video, can the gh5 shoot 6K...?

Very interesting - were you using the Nikon f1.4 for the night shots - the footage looks nice and steady - I assume that's the internal stabalisation of the GH5 - this has got me thinking, I own a Nikon D750 (great for photography) but I need a deadicated video camera.

mark shirley I used a slider for half of the shots and half was with the I.S. Lock stabilization. Yes I would recomend gh5 and then use your nikon glass. With the metabones adapter your crop is X1,3.

Joo.Works what's a 50mm work out at on a GH5 using the speedbooster.

all profiles will look better out the camera over vlog which is meant for grading. And vlog has a higher noise pattern especially at low light. I think at low light, cineD is the natural alternative to vlog but only if ISO is close to 3200 AND the waveform is showing crushed blacks. That's assuming you don't have neat video or some denoiser.

I have not noticed more noise with vlog compared to other profiles when v-log is graded to match the other profiles. Though with high iso Vlog seems to give more colour noise (3200iso) than the other profiles, but with good lenses you rarely need to go that high. So you prefer cine-d to v-log in low light? Does it have less noise or better colour?

Joo.Works I prefer vlog at all times...especially with all-I update. I have lenses that open to .95, 1.1, and 1.4....but if I can't get the waveform acceptable...CineD and natural are next. But this is because I'm grading and showing my narratives on big screens. For vacation videos or out of the camera...cineV and portrait are ones I try first...and vivid. I think each person's circumstances are different. And like you did experiment with different settings. Which is a joy on gh5

Hey! I'm interested where do you see the difference in the 400 mbps codec? I'm lost I just don't see it. I did some tests and didn't realise it. If you do big screen stuff then you might have better eye for it.

Joo.Works it's not "that" big of a difference in normal shots. Shots with smoke, fire,,water are better with the ALL-I. The rest is tough to see. The good news is with a gh5 and all-I, you are able to be hired for Netflix productions because the camera fits the criteria for use. A big thing for working DP's...

Hmm.. I have a shoot comming where we are playing around with fire. Maybe I'll shoudl test it then. I just hope that the netflix part is relevant for me someday. :-D

Do you recommend shooting in vlog even at night? I'm afraid of using vlog for my commercial work (when it's dark) because it introduces noise to the shadows. Would be great the see a color correction tutorial for vlog at night. Anyway like your channel and already subscribed great work.
