Its nice that you shoot the garage. So many real estate photographers, or maybe it is the relators that are leaving the garage out of listings. That is a very important space to some of us and it is frustrating when it gets left out of listings. Any relators watching, make sure you get garage shots!

Is there something that intrudes into the space like a water heater, how high is the ceiling, are the walls/ceiling finished, etc....

I am taking a year off of school and starting a Real Estate photography business. I already had a A7III, lens (just traded for Tamron 17-28 f2.8 ), and Mavic Air 2, and so when I was looking for a job that could be worth my time and make decent money, I thought I would give it a shot. This video really helped me with what the process looks like. I have been practicing on my own house and been looking at houses on Zillow to do "mock trials" on how I would shoot it (angles, lighting, etc), but I like the visual guide of this video. Appreciate it.

Excuse my amateur question, but I'm wondering about the aperture. I see the photos are taken at an f4. And a quick snap and go. I'd be so paranoid I'd get back home to post and everything's not in full focus. I thought f8-11 was ideal to capture entire spaces in focus. Is there something I'm missing here?

Wide focus area at f4 I’ve never had problems. Allows camera to function faster and I’m happy with result but I know how my gear performs and results. This is very important. Hope this helps

Jordan does a good job here with the HDR shooting workflow, although Jordan would suggest getting the Meike grip it has a remote and it is not an ir sensor type like yours I can fire mine from the next room much more convenient especially since I am usually firing it from behind the camera. As for Flash Ambient I have trained many non photographers to shoot real estate for me on the Sony’s I set custom dial one to hdr 3 bracket -2 and custom mem dial 2 to flash single frame settings so you just have to flick the dial quickly. Also here is a tip.. if you use a non Sony flash system our case I use Canon Godox triggers on the Sony it will fire during the first frame of the HDR bracket.. usually I am firing off the ad200 around 1/2 power or more to get the one pop only, this works because the camera doesn’t communicate with flash that way, so it just gets the fire instruction. With Sony triggers it communicates and the camera turns off the hdr bracket because it can’t fire for each frame. Now washrooms you will have to turn down the flash power. I literally can shoot a flash ambient 3000 sq ft home in 45 mins or less. Since I got a new wheely monopod Frankenstein creation I am even quicker and less tired as I am not doing curls with the tripod running around the house. Just have to watch out for uneven floors. Hope that helps.

It surprises me you're not levelling your shots in camera. Yeah you can fix it later, but it's such a better practice to make it as good as you can get in the time that you have in camera.

Minor leveling adjustments is built into our presets, so no extra time on our end. If you don't have that, then I would recommend getting your shot more accurate during the shooting process. I prefer to move faster with level pretty good then slower with perfect level. Thanks for watching!

Hey Darin. Check the description I have since created the list of gear I used in the video. I shot this home with the A7SIII. Some homes require more megapixels (this camera on has 12 mp). For homes that need higher resolution I use the A1 or A7R4. Our go to all around camera we use for business is the A7III. Hope this helps :)

Depends on the house for lighting. I’ll shoot F4-F11 depending. I usually like a lower setting if I can’t tell a difference for a faster shutter speed. ISO isn’t fully auto but a preset lower range of 100-400 so I don’t have to change it during the shoot… higher than 400 the noise in the image can be problematic. Hope this helps! :)

You need to set your iso setting lower and upper limit. Even though my camera shows Auto iso it is actually appropriately set by be to 100-400. Adjust your auto range should fix the issue. Hope this helps!

The Sony A7ii was our workhorse one of my guys was always using it.. although the shutter on it has finally gone funky I am told.. ( still works when I whip it out) Anyways that is a beast of a camera sensor is amazing and shot thousands of properties for us and was left in some baking cars in its day. It is the perfect camera for real estate really unless you need 4K video. Our guys now are on the a7iii and a7iv’s A7iv is an amazing hybrid camera for photo and video.. but I don’t like to change lenses too many times so when I am out I usually do photos with a7iii and 422 video with the a7iv it is just a speed thing for me.. cameras all set up and ready to go job to job. I have the a7iv already mounted to the gimbal so I don’t have to fiddle with the balancing.

Lightroom for starters. Auto stack your images and use hdr merge… when selecting multiple stacks will merge each individually. From there just edit to you liking

It’s incredible how fast you shoot this house. I just got my A6600 and learning sony camera. Obviously your shooting bracketing shots without flash. I’m just wondering about the camera setting because you never touch the dial and just go with the work flow. Specifically I’m looking for a video how to set AEB with flash in a single shot. Yes for pros like Jordan it is a speed thing and shooting RAW WB is not an issue.. But if you are doing video I suggest you manual the white balance as you don’t have as much wiggle room to fix WB in a compressed video codec.

Thanks for the video. i noticed that your setting for the three exposures is at 3 stops, but when the shutter speed shows for each frame some of the images seem to be 1/30, 1/60 and 1/4, not three stops apart. does the video not show what the actual shutter speeds are? Three Exposure Values or EV -3, 0, +3... Shutter speed does vary from exposure to exposure.... If a darker exposure shorter shutter speed, it brighter exposure a longer shutter speed. I haven't noticed color variables using auto iso. Hope this helps.

I designed this video for someone just getting started that needs to focus on getting proper composition and not so much on flash/camera settings... not to make the process more complex than it needs to be. It really not full auto iso... but auto iso with a range set 100-400.... camera will select 100 for exteriors and 400 for darker rooms interior without having to adjust the setting manually for reach shot/room. Home this helps.

I don't think you mentioned this and it's something I think about a lot when shooting houses out here in Phoenix: if you're shooting a hallway-facing angle from say the master bedroom, and you can see out the bedroom door and there's another bedroom, or bathroom across the hall, do you leave that door open or closed? I think compositionally it looks better with the hallway bathroom or other bedroom door closed but I also think when a homebuyer is looking at the photos they might want to see how one room relates to, or is adjacent to, other rooms.

Yes open is better but just remember you will get colour cast issues and different light exposures, especially if you are using a flambeint shooting style, there is ways around that too but instead of extra pops for each room, I usually just fix it up in post with the right selections and some solid Lightroom presets that boost it for me quickly. But I have one of my togs that drives me nuts with capturing 20 open doors with the worst colour casts and lighting.. Sometimes it is better to show less. Depending on the mls system in your area some have photo amount limitations.. Toronto’s used to only be 25 photos until the last couple of years, if you are limited skip the connecting shots and stick to the main room shots. If you have no limitations then capture them, but just be cognizant that it will mean extra work for you in post. So it depends on your pricing and the competition in your market. Time is money.

Fantastic video. You are the only real estate photographer I've watched who uses a monitor and I think it is a perfect solution for speed and accuracy. When I looked up the Ninja V, the price is around $600. I'm not familiar with monitors, but the Ninja V seems to be geared towards recording. If I'm not recording and will strictly use this for photography monitoring, do you have a recommendation for a solid, decent resolution and brightness, decent battery life, decent screen size... monitor? Notice how the camera screen said the camera was going to take 3 photos, one at -3EV, one at normal, and one at =3EV. The camera will do this exposure automatically. Merge them together with your photo editor.

Enfuse is your best option for more natural looking photos although it requires some editing before you get there.. My suggestion would be to separate a minus one and a plus one frame from your set the if you are using auto white balance it will change.. what I used to do for this is my minus one frame would be the one I would be generating most of the colour from I would radial fix colour casts from window blue to warm tungsten lights until it came out looking pretty close to natural.. then my second bright frame I would use more as luminosity layer just pull back the highlights and do any other tweaks to your liking.. then I would turn down the vibrancy to 20 % export both out as tifs.. for the whole batch of -1 frame and plus one.. one coloured one for luminosity purposes then batch edit them in Enfuse once they are outputted they used to be pretty close to finished, throw back into Lightroom for a final few tweaks and some bump tweaks and export out finals.

One question: I understand why you shoot at f4.0 (from your comment above) but I don't see how f4.0 can give you continuous sharp focus from close to far, especially when you are using Auto focus. It seems like manual focus at f8 would always provide perfect focus from close to far.

Our team default is f8 but if you have high-quality lenses, you can't really tell a difference when shooting wide real estate photos... I personally prefer a faster shutter speed at f4. It allows me to move faster through the house. Conventional wisdom would say f8 is better, but I've done several tests with the lenses I use, and they perform well at F4.... if you were to shoot an object or a person, you would see a big difference in aperture settings but not much when shooting a wide room in real estate. If you are using a low quality wide angle lens, you will notice a difference. I shoot with Sony G Master lenses. It does matter, though if you are trying to capture mountain view at a property... for those I bump my aperture... usually around f13. Hope this helps.

I personally shoot f4 most of the time shooting hdr without flash... with flash usually 7.1... I like a faster shutter and no big side effects from my experience at f4 in image quality... That being said that is how I do it... Most of our photographers shoot closer to 7.1... I will also increase it if im trying to get a distance shot with house as well... like a mountain in the background, etc.... I also dont like managing a manual iso, so typically I do shoot auto iso 100-400... I like being efficient... This video is part of a course I am launching at the beginning of 2021... In the middle of the videos right now... about 100 videos into it of 200+ :)

Expensive external monitor, yet stays stuck in auto ISO en F4.0... I think you can do a whole lot better when you actually control the shutterspeed yourself. No reason to not be in manual and lowest ISO settings when you are using a tripod..

Why are you shooting in ISO Auto and at f4?your shots have to be a little out of focus. I know it was said by someone else in the comments, but it’s always a better practice to get your shots level in camera. Also, why are you shooting everything in 3:2?

3:2 is aspect ratio we deliver. I’ll shoot f4-f11 with the lens I use depending. I recommend 7.1 or 8 if you are looking not to adjust and get consistent results with any wide angle lenses. Not all perform well at f4. ISO is has a set range of 100-400 so not fully auto. That’s the range I deem acceptable without a crazy amount of noise. 100 for exteriors and closer to 400 for interiors without have to adjust the iso setting. Hope this helps!

I will shoot at F4 at times when not using lighting. The Sony lenses I use produce a good result at F4. But if you are using a cheaper lens you would need to test your end result before doing so. The two main lenses I currently use are the 16-35 2.8 G Master and the 12-24 2.8 G Master. Hope this helps!

The main reason I shoot F4 is that I move quickly through homes and prefer a faster shutter speed at low iso settings. Three bracketed shots within 3 seconds.

Interesting no flash. I am usually running around with a xplorer 600 popping flash everywhere lol takes me about an hour to shoot a 2000 square foot house. Your method seems much faster.

In this video no flash... others with flash. Im in the middle of putting together a course... HDR method is what I recommend for someone just starting out so they can focus on composition and not so much on the camera variables. Course launching early 2021... im about 100 videos deep in the 200+ video course :)

For our higher end shoot I use the Godox AD 600 Pro, so similar to what you use. I will have videos on that method as well.

Huh I just shot a 1200 square foot home and every ambient shot I took the outside was so blown out but yours all seem pleasantly exposed with a perfectly exposed interior. Why does real world never look like you tube hmmmm
