I have been filming a lot of real estate videos. Thanks for the insight. My challenge is, I have to shoot quick. Sometimes the homeowners are home and I was quite surprised to find them there. Also, always ask if pets will be on the premises, if there is electricity for vacant homes. I take battery powered lighting with me to each shoot. Sometimes, I only have 30 minutes to film so I have to move quickly through the house and outside. Thanks for sharing this.

Any comment on the use of drone ? Is it really necessary?

Nearly same area coverage of a property is 100% free via Google Earth

Certain properties will benefit from the use of drone footage, especially ones with a view, acreage, or in close proximity to a desirable amenity like a park, river, mall, or lake. In my experience an agent listing a property for a million+ will never use google earth, they'll hire a FAA Part 107 Certified Pilot.

Depends. Does it look better with Aerial Footage or does it just look like any other House from above. That is the question you should be asking yourself.
@BorrowLenses4 жыл бұрын
Short answer to your question: no it's not totally necessary. Longer answer to your question...well, prepare for rant. Drones are a great tool in video just like a stabilizer, slider, tripod, but that's how they should be viewed - accessorial and not the primary focus. Like everything else in production, it's all about the right tool for the job. For real estate gigs - if I'm shooting a house with an amazing view or sprawling backyard: absolutely, I'm using it. If I'm doing an apartment in the middle of a city, well that birds eye look at the exterior in the middle of a crowded street probably isn't selling anyone; there's just no point to the shot. I think drones have become so common they've lost that "this is crazy, how'd you get this shot?" wow factor we all had the first time we saw a drone video. They're still an incredibly useful piece of support equipment as long as the shoot calls for it. Just don't go overboard. I've seen way too many creators get drone happy and produce a video that's nothing but way too lengthy shots that don't really feature anything except jerky aerial maneuvers and cheesy "the earth is awe-inspiring" ambient music to accompany it. Advanced technology is no excuse to abandon solid production fundamentals. Shot composition, lighting, pacing, capturing footage that supports the story you're telling should always be the primary focus no matter how you're shooting. Keep everything else in moderation...okay, rant over. -Drew

what's your opinion on laowa 9mm for fuji, too wide? cheers
@BorrowLenses4 жыл бұрын
I'd usually say too wide, but Laowa is a bit of an outlier in that they've been able to produce ultrawide lenses without the typical spherical distortion that accompanies them (their macros are pretty sick too), so I think it's worth considering. 9mm is still a little too wide for me, though that's largely a personal preference I've come to by trial & error. Your best bet is to experiment with various focal lengths to find the "wide but not too wide" look you like. -Drew

Aputure C300D II plus lightbox (which is over £1,000). I wonder if there is a cheaper option?

How much does one charge? I know there's a spectrum. Could you go over the variable rates a one person production and post production entity would charge? Thanks!

We're close by with a warehouse in Waltham, MA (HQ is in the Bay Area). Good eye though - those are RI properties I did videos for in the past. Wanted to use some authentic shots from my own real estate reel when discussing the topic. -Drew
