Well happy day, it's finally here! One of my favorite stores to find all the deals: how to shop TJMAXX! Let me be honest. This is really just the start. There's more, but this gets us started and hopefully gets you a screaming deal at this sometimes overwhelming store! If you are wondering if TKMAXX in Europe is the same as TJMAXX in US - it is. In fact, TKMAXX has just as much - if not more - incredible deals. Let me know if any of these tips will work there too!! Please note: this video not sponsored and TJMAXX and company did not participate in the filming of this. (I do it out of love.) :)
As always, I love the community of deal finders and positive shoppers we have building here - thank you so much for your comments, your love, and sharing your tips too! I have 9 tips today on this video - something for everyone. Remember not all of these tips work every single day at every store - just try to take the tip you love best and use it! ENJOY and let me know what awesome thing you find putting at least one of these to work. Thanks for shopping with me!! xoxox Melissa

As an employee of TJ MAXX for many years now I have a few tips and comments. 1. Don’t be afraid to look on those long racks. I know everyone think all the new stuff gets put on the little features but that is not true. If we don’t get enough of a specific item in we will put it on the long racks instead of the small ones, and we have certain restrictions as to what we can put on those features (for example, Nike is not allowed on those small racks. 2. Though it is good to check Marshall’s and HomeGoods for other items if you don’t find exactly what you want just be aware that we do all get different stuff, sometimes different sizes, and different amounts of each item because it is off brand. 3. Though it doesn’t hurt to ask if something is marked down please note that if there is a long line of people behind you it is a bit aggravating as the cashier to have to got through that extra step with the machine that is 10 feet away from them just to say you $2. Also, if the associate does not look it up but rather just looks at the ticket, it is because we know how to read the tickets, not because we were blowing you off. 4. The online store does get different inventory and does not allow you to search by brand. Those this may be aggravating at times it is because we are not allowed to promote/publicize certain brands (like with the small feature racks) 5. TJ MAXX gets new shipments 5 day a week on a normal week but during the holidays it can be 6-7 days. 6. The best time to shop is probably around 12-7 because we aren’t allowed to push out new items after 7 and by 12 we have started to actually get a good amount of the days stuff out. 7. Every TJ MAXX gets different stuff based on the area. For example, if it was a predominantly Jewish area that the store is in they will get more Hanukkah stuff than Christmas stuff. Also, the average income of the area may cause a variation in items. 8. If you have a good experience at a TJ MAXX full out the survey at the bottom of the receipt. It counts towards our store rating. Also, just know that the survey, though you rate the store from 1-5 is actually pass/fail so if it’s not a 5 then it might as well be a 1. It’s also really great to mention the name of an associate if a particular one helped you!

TJ Maxx employee here ❤️ this video is full of amazing and true tips. I do have to agree Monday mornings are the worst time to go. As we don’t get truck in since Friday morning. And as for the website not saying the brands, a lot of the “prestigious” brands we sell (such as Michael Kors & Ralph Lauren) don’t allow us to advertise their brand because they don’t want to be associated with discount stores. If you guys have any questions I’ll do my best to answer. :)

Maggie how far out can something be returned for a store credit? My mom shops all year round for Christmas for my family which can often become a problem with TJ’s return policy. My mom loves the shopping/hunt process so I’d rather not take that from her and be rude by asking for gift cards. My current remedy is to donate those items that don’t fit or suit our taste to Goodwill. Thanks.
@maggie4413

Kathleen Hazy Hello Kathleen! Does she usually give you gift receipts? Sometimes that makes returns easier, but if the item still has the tag and is in good shape and not used; any time you return if you should get store credit. If you have the initial purchase receipt, if you return an item within 30 days you get a full refund; but after it’s store credit. Does this answer your question? :)

Maggie Mom usually never gives me a receipt. Maybe that would be the easier conversation...ask her for a gift receipt “just in case.” I would dread walking in a store without a receipt...that would be so awkward. Get a gift receipt from mom...that’s what I’ll do. Thanks for your advice Maggie!

As a TJX employee, I have a couple of tips for shoppers to make your shopping experience and OUR workday a pleasant one. We get deliveries almost every day, thousands of different items, it's a bit unrealistic to expect us to know EVERYTHING we have in inventory. So, don't think we're dismissing your questions when we answer with "if we have it, it would be in...." We'd love to be able to memorize everything so we can help you, but it's impossible. Also, inventory varies from store to store, so we have NO clue as to what other store might have the item you're looking for. Regarding returns on RUNWAY items. This is very important: If you purchase a Runway item, DO NOT REMOVE the weird looking security clip or the tags if you want to return them. The only way we are allowed to return or exchange those is if the tags and that security clip is still attached to the garment AND you have the receipt. HomeGoods, Marshalls, TJMaxx are all part of the same parent company... BUT our tags, barcodes, item numbers are different and will NOT scan in other stores. There are HomeGoods/Marshalls combo stores. There's usually no issues returning clothing purchased there at regular Marshalls stores. BUT housewares/Home decor items will have a different barcode and will NOT scan at a regular Marshalls store. If you do try to return it at a Marshalls, please be patient, because an associate has to find an item in the same department and the same retail price so we can do an item conversion ticked so you can accept the return. And sometimes it's impossible to do, specially with clereance items. Also, Marshalls will not be participating in the "email receipt" program. So you will still need a paper receipt for returns. So please save your receipts, it's so much more convenient and faster for you as a shopper and for us as a store. Trust me, we get as excited as you when we receive amazing designer and cool items and we want you to have a pleasant, amazing shopping experience. You wouldn't believe how much a Thank You and a smile can make an employee's day.

Hello, I’ve been an employee for TJ Maxx for 4+ years. Just wanted to say that they don’t allow searching via brands on their online website due to contracting with said brand. Most brands don’t want the their customers to be able to immediately search cheaper items through TJ Maxx when said item can be purchased on their website at full price. This is also why certain brands such as Nike and Adidas are restricted from being displayed on fixtures in certain locations. :)

Just an FYI, TJ Max & it’s sister companies do purchase their own new designs from companies I.e. Micheal Kort’s handbags etc. They do not only buy close outs, but items specially manufactured for them. Also, online you can often find very high end handbags and shoes that are not carried in the stores. Many times online, I will put the item in my cart and wait until I receive a free shipping e-mail then purchase the item. Recently, I purchased a set of Nambe canisters online that are the same ones selling at Neiman Marcus. My motto, for shopping these type of stores is “buy it if you like or it will be gone.”

TJX employee here! Stores get deliveries five days a week during the year, but all 7 days a week during the holidays. Also, it depends what week it is when it comes to asking an associate for a markdown. The system won’t always allow us depending on when it is, so please don’t get upset if they aren’t able to mark it down :)

I would honestly recommend that the best time to shop at TJMAXX is as soon as they open on Friday morning. They have ben putting out items all week, and few people have the luxury to shop during the week (instead of working) so many of the items are still there. If you wait until Saturday morning, alot of people have already began purchasing deals the Friday evening. This really works for people who'd rather go shopping once a week, than exhaustively continue to check in every other day. 2. There is also a particular technique to shop in the racks. Take a section of clothes (10-15 items), and push them all to your left. Now quickly, take each individual item and move it to the right, one by one. It should feel kind of like flipping through the pages of a book. Then move to the next section of 10-15 items. This makes shopping through the racks more systematic and less overwhelming than trying to sift through mountains of clothes.

I absolutely love TJMaxx/Homegoods. Been a loyal customer for 20 years now. My job is flexible so I go 2-3 times per week. I usually have something specific that I'm looking for. Kitchen, kids, shoes, work clothes, furniture, storage, etc.....a household always needs things. Patience is key! Sooner or later they will get what you're looking for. Best feeling is when you find what you're looking for with a yellow tag! Most of my home and closet is curated from TJMaxx & Marshall's

Knowledge is power! Knowing the lowest prices of items works to your advantage...that way you'll know if a store is behind on marking down items, something has missed a mark down or something old's been returned without a price adjustment. Often, I ask a sales coordinator/manager to assist with updating the price, especially if I receive a knee jerk response from a sales associate that the item is priced as marked. Having a receipt with the listed item or a price tag photo of the same item from a different store will help. (Finding an identical item, barring size, in the same store makes things very easy.) However, when comparing 2 items, both items must have the same ticket numbers for one to make a case. (That won't always be the situation.) Sometimes their markdown system is down, making for another challenge though managers sometimes have the ability to check prices in their back offices. If necessary, it helps to call the district manager or TJMaxx customer service.

I currently work at TJ Maxx and have for a while. If I’m being completely honest, she doesn’t know exactly what she’s talking about. She is giving an outsiders perspective, but it’s not actually how it goes. 1) Shoes or any item that has been ordered online does not automatically get marked down. It gets put on the shelf at the price it was bought at just like everything else until the next markdown cycle. Not sure why it was assumed that it gets marked down right away. 2) You can’t just walk up to an associate and ask them to mark stuff down for you or to see if it needs to be marked down. Associates are not allowed to mark stuff down just because a customer asks. There are certain markdown periods, and that’s when everything gets marked down. It also has to be done by hand. That means it’s not in the system and each item has to be single handedly marked down. If it gets missed, it gets missed. 3) They do not put the most expensive makeup at the front of the store. There are features all throughout the store, and the ones at the front change depending on what time of year it is, what holidays are coming, or what corporate wants. It has nothing to do with price. 4) Trying to go first thing on the morning on weekends doesn’t make that much of a difference. Employees are pushing out new merchandise all throughout the afternoon, so just because you get there in the morning doesn’t mean you are seeing everything. 5) Online shopping won’t let you search things like Nike. This is because those brands don’t want their stuff shown at a discounted price when you can go to Nike and buy it full price. Also, every TJ Maxx carries diffferent items, so you can’t expect everything you see on store to be online or vise versa. It’s just not realistic. This is not meant to be hateful, it’s just honest. She doesn’t have all the facts. Even the dedicated shoppers don’t know everything.

I used to work at a Marshall's in NJ and they restocked every day due to their location and had great high end items based on their demographic. Always ask how often shipments come in and sometimes if you have a good rapport with an associate, ask them to scan with their pricing gun to see if it was missing a price adjustment based on age of the item. First time on your channel and I love these tips! I’m a Ross TJ Maxx Marshall’s lady through and through. I have found incredible Levi’s at Ross multiple times, Hunter boots, Vince loafers... I head to TJ for free people and Zara (Zara is dirt cheap at TJ). I’ve also bought Nars and even Kendra Scott at TJ. I’ve also learned to be super picky and only buy what I absolutely adore.

Just came across your channel, You are speaking my language! Yes! I am at TJ Max and Burlington Coat Factory at least 3 times a week. I just found a stunning red dress/gown at TJ for the ridiculous price of $59.00. Marked down from almost $ 500.00. It was an online purchase that was returned in store, It was from the online Runway collection. News to me, but it was the find of the century! I also check Marshall's and Ross as well. Love your channel!

I use to work at tj maxx and she’s 100 percent right but I would especially go in the evenings!! We’re usually dead, and so that’s when we’re putting stuff out or processing it to go out, I would also look in the fitting room if you can’t find your size, or I also processed a LOT in the fitting room and I would always put aside stuff for myself, last fall I bought my fiancé a 20 dollar nike hoodie 🤷🏻‍♀️ that would have been gone if I didn’t process it, in the fitting room, so always check there for new items/ things that need to be put back because your size or something you’re looking for might be there! Some times people even leave their carts back there and so there items will also be being put back in the fitting room 😊

I just discovered your channel & subscribed after watching your Nordstrom tips video! Your shopping tips are amazing! As an extreme bargain hunter, I love Marshalls and Winners (in Canada, TJMax owns Winners, Home Sense & Marshalls. We don’t have TJMax but I guess Winners & Home Sense are the equivalent). I have lots of awesome deals over the years. The most extreme one was last fall when I found the Aquatalia knee high suede boots for my mom for $200. Regular price at Nordstrom & other high end stores was +$800!!!

These type of stores also get the end of season goods from stores like a Macy’s. Macy’s calls them jobbers. After Macy’s does their last mark downs... they price them to salvage. So the price change team goes out and pulls these items that all scan as .01. They are not allowed to sell those items. If you ever found one at Macy’s it’s because it was missed. They then load them on a truck that goes to a distro center. Then Macy’s sells those items to “jobbers” at cents on the $. So while these stores get a lot direct from the brands that have left over or merchandise they larger stores returned or canceled, they also get them from dept stores getting rid of old merchandise. (I was a Macy’s exec for 15 years if you’re wondering how I know this)

Make sure you check your beauty makeup at the store... I usually do but the one time I didn't, I got home and my eyeshadow was broken. Also, I've purchased lipsticks before that smelled old. Also, I just purchased a brow liner pencil and it was dry and waxy and would not mark. You can return but save you the hassle. Check before you purchase! :)

Best day to shop is Wednesday mornings because they mark down on Tuesdays and Fridays after store hours. January and July are their biggest season markdowns. If something is damaged or looks like something is wrong with it but you dont mind or know you can fix or wash out ask for a price reduction, most the time they will give you 20% off and also use the Amazon app to scan items to make sure it's not on Amazon for even cheaper and if so, buy it from Amazon. Or wanna buy go online and buy a gift card (Gift card Granny is one site) and get 8% off when you know you wanna buy something at TJ Maxx.

Hi! Tj Maxx supervisor here, another tip to follow is to stop in mid to late in the month. Generally speaking that is when our markdown cycles happen. Also come the day after holidays, most of the items corresponding with that holiday will be mark down 30-50% off. They may get mark down further as it gets farther away from that holiday but be careful because after 5-7 days after the holidays most stores donate their leftover holiday stuff to charity.

Cruise ships debark from that location, so you get the crew, passengers going on the ships, I met group of airline stewardess there who had a long layover.,,, tourists and people like me who are in Florida for a few months. Oh there is a RUNWAY. ALSO MARSHALL/HOMEGOODS in North Miami (Federal Highway) is also a good store full with local and tourists so loads of everything and probably only 12 miles away.

As a marshalls employee (literally the same as tj maxx) Tips and ways to help staff 1) check to make sure a palette isn’t broken or lipstick isn’t smudged before purchasing. If it is, it is our jobs to either mark it down or mark it out due to hygiene reasons. 2) the fitting room allows 10 items at once and the fitting room associate HAS to count the items and physically touch item, there is a security camera watching us do our job so all we ask is for you patience 3) pay attention to when you see the “new markdowns” posted outside the store, that is the best time to shop the clearance department and when it is most up to date because most times who wants to spend time rummaging the clearance 4) we do not have direct access to if we have a certain product from either our store or another location as we never have a set number for inventory or even what we get for inventory. We either have to call another store or look for the item.

I recently went into my First Ever TJMaxx store. I wish I had Known what a Great place it was back when my daughter was in Middle and High School and Competing in Pageants. I could have gotten a lot of her Public Appearance Wardrobe from there or Marshalls. We were going to Dillard's and Macy's unless we got lucky and had a Sponsor like when she competed in San Antonio and needed non Pageant Wardrobe Pieces for when they went on Your and we're in Public like the Riverwalk areas. They all had to dress up but cool because it was 102° outside. She got lucky Cato's sponsored her a 5 day wardrobe collection. Cavenders Boot City had always sponsored her Western Attire. David's Bridal gas sponsored her 2 dresses for Awards Ceremony and Black & Pink Ball. Haven't figured out how to get her Formal Pageant wear or Interview Suits sponsored. So those are major expenses for Pageant Girls. I coach now and help girls prepare for Pageant Week/ Weekends. I now recommend TJMaxx and Marshalls and Burlington to them.

I am like you. Your tips I am already doing. I go almost twice a week sometimes just browsing. That's how to shop at TJMAXX and Marshalls. Some people think that you go to these stores and find what they are looking for and very disappointed when they don't find them. Set aside time just to look around at these stores and be surprised with what you will find. Again you and i can be shoppingmates. One time I found a Campomaggi small backpack for $29.99!! It was not familiar with the brand name first time I've seen the brand. What attracted my eyes was the quality of its leather, the price and style i dont care what brand name it is, can't go wrong. Learning later on that brand costs hundreds of dollars and can re sell it. Love their jewelries as well.

Such a sad Marshall’s story - found the absolute perfect black leather jacket, was a Lucky Brand, only $79. It was all by itself, tried it on while waiting in line. Only got to wear it once, then lost it in an Uber who wouldn’t return my calls😭😭😭 Im a Marshall’s/TJMaxx/HG power shopper. Some of my best scores were lunchtime on a week day. Some other tips, never buy beauty before checking that it hasn’t been tampered, always check robes and pajamas - some of the biggest discounts I find there, if I see something I like in one, definitely check others. I too like the household dupes, I always buy towels and bath mats, always check shoes, always check sheets, always check seasonal!!

I practically ' live' in TJ Maxx. The prices there are still not cheap enough for a RESALE unless items are down to a sale that can be flipped to make money on. Otherwise it doesn't pay to shop there if you are a reseller. I couldn't see it so well but there looked to be a blazer there by Zara, black with the white edges on it, if it's the same one and why wouldn't it be, I found it at the Goodwill bins for penny in fabulous condition.

So I work at TJs and this video is great! Good tips and tricks!!! One thing I will say is we don’t markdown online returns right away anymore they go onto the floor as marked And they wait for the normal markdown cycle to put them on clearance at least in my district that’s what started happening And another trick to save a little money As employees we are always selling the credit card to people I have it myself But one cool thing if you already have the credit card as long as it has a zero balance on it you can re-sign up for the credit card and get 10% off again and they automatically cancel your old credit card out and I believe you can do this as many times as you want but there is a 60 to 90 day period where you cannot sign up for the card after resigning up Also coming in early is good the lines are usually short and we can spend more time with customers and after five is good because most of our stuff is out but the lines are a little bit longer Also our beauty section is awesome!! Be sure to check the makeup though to make sure it hasn’t been used because customers come through and swatch it and WE DO NOT HAVE TESTERS If the makeup has been touched or damaged we cannot mark it down we have to mark it out of stock - store policy it sucks
