Love this, even though I couldn't hear anything. But still, Christmas is my all time favorite holiday of the year & also I'm learning some Christmas songs in ASL, from "Silent Night" to "Jingle Bells" and also my all time favorite Christmas song "Last Christmas" from the rock band Wham! 🎅🙂

Honest question. Specially in ASL where a single finger placement can change the meaning of a word, why do they allow many variations to one word??
@ASLMeredith3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the handshape is extremely important in ASL and other sign languages! Generally - yes, it can absolutely change the meaning of a word. That doesn't mean it ALWAYS changes the meaning; it depends on the language whether a specific finger can be adjusted for a given sign.

Quick question. I do this with my right hand, yes? I'm sorry, I'm new to this 😭
@Starcrash69843 жыл бұрын
If you are right-handed, then you probably want your "C" hand to be your right one just like Meredith's.
@ASLMeredith3 жыл бұрын
Supernova is correct! If you're right-hand-dominant, then you'd use your right hand like I do. (So don't mirror me.) If you're left-handed, you can mirror what you see on the screen. I explain more in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZK4kmhmppV6mac

Yes! Some signs for CHRISTMAS stemmed from either the sign for TREE or the sign for WREATH, or a combo of the two

I see you promoted a video celebrating Kwanzaa. That crap should be taken down. No one should be celebrating the creation of a brutal schizophrenic. Even the owner of the video turned off the comments so people will have a harder time learning the history of it. Update: I see you turned off your comments, too; not everyone is falling for your propaganda.
@ASLMeredith3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I'm not sure what you're talking about regarding comments. First, I'm not promoting the holiday -- I was sharing a production by my favorite Deaf performers, and I promote their work often. (This happens to be the first time it was tied to any sort of holiday; typically it's more generic in nature.) Second, I never turned off any comments. (You're here, are you not?) As for the original video - the NY Deaf Theatre put out the production as a free streaming presentation, a limited-time viewing opportunity running only through Jan 3, so it's in their right to leave comments or turn them off -- as a live performance would not have had a comment option either. You certainly needn't watch the video and you're welcome to share any *useful* information to educate me or others on a complicated, invented holiday. But you don't need to call it propoganda - it was an ASL theatrical performance, and that's something I share often. Thanks for understanding.

@@ASLMeredith The creator, Ronald Everett, tortured and brutalized women. No exaggeration. I can't even write what he specifically did. I can't support a make believe holiday born of some of the most violent thoughts of mankind which is also race driven; it further divides our country. Your post that shared this propaganda (yes, propaganda) has the comments turned off. You are most certainly promoting the holiday. You promoting it shows you are promoting it; deflecting your promotion of it by saying someone else promoted it does not get you off the hook.

@@K9River Ah, I see the issue now - no, I did not turn off comments, myself. KZbin did this automatically, because the *linked* video is marked as kid-safe and thus KZbin automatically turned off comments, per this article: support.google.com/youtube/answer/9706180 (Not EVERYONE has an agenda. My intent was never malignant.) I"m learning more about the holiday's history.

@@ASLMeredith Ah. I'm glad to hear you weren't the one who turned off your comments. KZbin does do some odd things. I hope you take the time to learn a bit more about the history of Kwanzaa. Be warned: it's vile. Even without considering the terrible history, it is superficially good. Pull away the thin veil and it's not good.
