American here. Wondering if you can tell me the origin of the sign Asda? My guess was because is sounds like a**. My colleague wondered if its because your wallet is in your back pocket. Are either of us right?

it's from the gesture that the shop employees do in the Asda TV adverts

Bit late but it was from an advert series. It would usually be a mum in tight jeans saying “That’s ASDA price!” Then they’d pat their back pocket and there would be a ching-ching sound - like coins, I guess.
